Wow.. Louis Armstrong.. the voice.. the smile.. Jewel Brown, beautiful.. and the.. ‘the brass band’ .. ends w Louis singing his appreciation, introductions, and goodbyes.. incredible day to be.. ♥️♥️💙♥️
Born 1965, my father had albums. It sounds like pure love. My father played trombone, I do guitar and sing for my life now. Gonna put Louis in my list. 😊
This is so wonderful that it brings tears to my eyes. My dad, who was a WWII, vet loved Louis Armstrong and his all stars. I do too! Candace McLaughlin
Just finished reading maestro Amstromg book when he grew up on new Orleans fron 5 years of age to the time he joined King Oliver in Chicago. I love every word he wrote and spoke. This is a genius. I bow to him. His trumpet performance will live forever. We are blessed . A great musician. We will never stop learing and admiring this great artist.
All his musicians and this fabulous singer are out of this world. I can't stop crying with joy. My son Pablo Mendelssohn is another brilliant lead trumpeter in London West end leading the musical Back to the Future. And lead with the Specials now on tour. And many other great musicals ect ect. Louis Amsgrong would we be proud of his talent. As he is of Louis.
Never sufficiently credited as an addition to the all stars, Tyree Glenn was playing superb trombone behind Pops. The highlight of this set comes early: an imperishable "Black and Blue". There's a back story thst I cant remember that engendered the sheer ferocity of Pops's playing here! He was very angry at something or someone.
I think this was recorded live in EAST Berlin (amazing) at the Friedrichsstadt Palast, March 22, 1965. (Soviet controlled East Berlin allowed some jazz concerts after World War II, but the regime initially resisted it as an American influence on culture. In 1947, Ernst Busch established Eterna Records for jazz, folk, classical, and church music. By 1960, the West German minister of defense declared jazz to be music for the new West German army, and it could be heard on state-sponsored radio and television stations. Surprised they allowed in this all American group to East Berlin. (Bet they went crazy!!)
Thank you Evan Shulman for sharing this incredible concert! Tbe quality of the transfer is incredible. Truly an all star ⭐️ band with the one and only Satchmo. 🎶🎺🎶
Thank you rainer tbis is the best I love, louis armstrong I went too his house in. queen ny his house is a museum and louis present was there beautiful thank you for posting
Thanks Evan. Your Dad's a fine clarinet player- had to be to play with Louis ! Just love the All Stars. Saw them in 1956 and 1962. Best , swinginest small big band sound ever. Pete Barnard
They really are ALL stars--(each one). When I first moved to New York, I was hoping to find this kind of music like every night in the City. (Thank God for You Tube...and MANY thanks to the person who posted this. I've now watched this at least a dozen times. Never gets old. I especially love the variations on "Hello Dolly" at 14:89 and 16:06 (the chord progression & improv). Wondering where they were playing in Berlin in 1965 (had to be West Berlin, as this kind of music was outlawed in East Berlin under Soviet rule...)
Ms. Jewel Brown is still alive and swinging it. God Bless JEWEL!! She's great and her name is so appropriate. Gorgeous tone & syncopation!! Wow--what talent!!! Swing it Ms. Jewel!!
I first noticed Eddie in the 60’s as a child actually. Then, they’d broadcast shows like this. I loved his tone especially. I wondered why he wasn’t ‘better known’ but possibly he was.
Do tell, Evan. I wouldn't know where to start a musical conversation with you but I damn well know it would be such a delight OH!! Aye aye aye!! That Man of Mine is sparkling Golden.
I saw your father with Gene Krupa at some point around 1960--at Boston's Storyville. He was a real pro who could play convincingly in any style. This concert from 1965 is probably the last time Pops was still in truly great trumpet form. Of course by then he had blown about FOUR lifetimes of really strong, powerful trumpet!

Put it this way, I've listened about 3 or 4 times this week now. I was drunk as a skunk the other day with mates crashing out in the room with me and just had to put this on to finish the night off to, was 4 wasted guys in a room in awe of what they were hearing . This is a total GEM. You ought to be massively proud as I am sure you are.
Que talento esta respetado músico, me hace recordar de mi tío Darlyn Marshall, el tocaba 7 instrumento y uno de ellos era el zaczofon.ya no salen estos artista.
@@ceelee321Nice guy, great hands, but had a tendency to rush, especially during 4-bar or 8-bar breaks. Sometimes Pops played straight quarters to get the band back in the groove.
The best musician in the band, apart from Pops, was Billy Kyle. He had great time, took good solos, and served as something of a music director for various projects begun by record producers like Milt Gabler and George Avakian
POtentially, you are right, but I think Billy Kyle wasted his considerable talent spending all these years in what was less and less a All stars, playing the same tunes every night, and to my ears losing his inspiration. He deserved much better @@MrKlemps
Evan, I am related to you. My mother Rebecca Shulman who is 96 yrs. old is Eddie's first cousin. They used to spend summers together in Brooklyn, NY. ,where Eddie lived then. I'm a musician. I wish i was 20 years old in 1965. But....i was 1 year old in 1978....but always loved Sactchmo....Jazz....big band.
The one and only Satchmo. I saw him and his All Stars and Velma Middleton at Earls Court London. The loveliest person and musician.

Crazy to think that Americans, Soviets and former Nazi party members were in attendance to this concert, just to see Louis Armstrong perform.
but then he and his band performed for white audience, while most likely the colored people where not allowed in. Weird world.
