I was a Sr. cox'n for two years on the smaller 34's in the Gulf from 2005-2006. That was a great boat, but his type of vessel is far and above anything else out there. Still, the Iranians have a pretty deadly fleet of small craft that can cause a lot of problems.

Well...If I was a young squid (and I say that lovingly as I used to be a Navy contractor), I would jump at the chance to serve on one of those babies. Sounds way cooler than being on a big slow platform as part of a huge crew where I knew few people and had the same job and scenery day after day, with little to no excitement.

My last reply, as there were a lot of upvotes to this post. I wish I had better news, but this video is extremely misleading and about 10 years too-late in order to be accurate. The final order was reduced to 12 total boats and they are no longer deployed. Per Wiki: "As of 2022, the 12 MK VI hulls remain in long term layup and storage and all MK VI program manpower, training, unique systems, and all support has been divested."

A single 3d printed drone with a price tag of about 2k dollars can destroy this boat... welcome to the future.

    • @jamison884
      @jamison884 Місяць тому

@@lostny76 As my reply above indicates, this isn't relevant, as the US doesn't have any of these in active service any longer (the video is just some inaccurate crap from, which is common from this particular UA-cam channel). The smallest blue-water vessel is essentially the upcoming Constellation-class frigate, with the two Freedom and Independence-class LCS designs being used for missions further away from hostile waters.
The USN's primary response to drones in the air and on the water are laser/microwave energy weapons, both offensive and defensive drones in the air and sea (launchable from ships and boats alike), the development of guidable 57mm, 76mm, and 127mm guidable munitions, and the guidable Hypervelocity munition (2.5 times the speed of traditional canon rounds from the same 127mm cannons found on current ships). Then there's also at least two new autocannon rounds currently being tested for 25mm, 30mm, and 50mm, which can have fuses set for airburst and proximity to defeat drones or explode/fragment above trenches, along with a dual-feed 30mm autocannon.
The defensive drone tech ranges from kamikaze (cheap explosive) hunter drones, drones with microwave weapons to counter swarms, drones with integrated shotgun-like guns and munitions, drones that literally shoot nets to down other drones, cheap jet-engine counter drone missiles, and there's this automated re-usable vertical launch and takeoff drone hunter with a jet engine with quite a bit of range and speed, which returns to land if it didn't need to intercept a target.
On land there's C-UAS and SHORAD Stryker units with autocannons, laser and microwave weapons, Stinger missiles, APKWS II guided rockets, and radar-guided Hellfire missiles. There are also C-UAS JLTV models with remote turrets using both 30mm autocannons and laser/microwave energy weapons with their own small radars mounted.

The Mark 6 Patrol Boat is a real powerhouse! At 6:06, the mention of its ability to collaborate with Navy SEALs and special operations highlights how versatile this boat is for modern warfare. Its impressive range of weapons, including heavy machine guns and even Griffin missiles at 8:00, shows that it's ready for any challenge. But do you think its smaller size limits its role in larger naval operations?

Plans to buy 48 for the U.S. Navy were cancelled and only 12 were built, and then divested as they were not used very much. Then it was decided to send the 12 to Ukraine as the U.S Navy did not want them. So the U.S. has zero of these. Makes me wonder why the headline of this video.

Good while it lasted: "Despite initial plans to acquire 48 Mark VI boats, only 12 were ordered in 2015 and delivered by 2017 with none purchased afterwards. In early 2021, the U.S. Navy signaled its intention to divest them by the end of the year. The decision was made as a cost saving measure, as the boats were not extensively used, suffered from reliability problems, and were considered too expensive to maintain.[7] The Navy however briefly rescinded the plan in May 2021 pending final Fiscal Year 2022 budget decisions before ultimately continuing with divestiture.[8] As of 2022, the 12 MK VI hulls remain in long term layup and storage and all MK VI program manpower, training, unique systems, and all support has been divested."

I like this thing! Good purchase, and within the context of military procurement, a decent value. Very practical. I can see these deploying out of a larger ship to support fleet operations, challenging any small craft in the area, etc., for example near pirate-infested waters. Not sure what so many crewmen do--but then again I'm not familiar with mission equipment that likely need specialized personnel to operate, or, also likely, guys to man all the many gun placements when confronting a potential hostile.

I have been waiting for a worthy replacement for the WW II PT boat to be developed for a specific purpose. The Mark 6 seems to be that system. I have also wondered why the US has been so invested in the semi-rigid design, which has looked like a temporary fix for a problem. I understand a less expensive platform to perform many tasks but they look semi-permanent at best. The list of possible armaments was the final kicker -- This boat is a worthy replacement and can (because of relative size) stand shoulder-to-Knee/waist with its deeper water family members.

To save money for more twoton and other upgrades i would keep the hurricane as coast gard incorporate satellite weapons to hurricane as upgrades harp lasers incoming fire as well as offensive and Thor s hammer for larger targets and good job thumbs up happy veterans day

And no need to upgrade cost guard but i would like the satellite link that already exists but adding those extras and that steath coding thats all they need invisibility and extra hard hitting fire Thor s hammer

The only thing that makes me nervous is the ALUMINUM HULL.
The size of this class is I believe a winner..especially with its armament and other systems.

Please ask Google about the Chinese type 022 missiles boat. It has 8 anti-ship missiles can sink major surface ships 200km away.

Nice looking craft. Is the MK6 capable of being outfitted with torpedoes like it PT boat predecessor. Would twin turbines or hydrofoils help increase top end.

The Coast Guard could make good use of this.
