  • Having just sat down to watch Perfume, The Making Of A Murderer, Ash and I were especially stoked to visit Grasse, the mekka for perfume making.
    We visited Fragonard, a perfumery thats been around since the 1920's. I even picked out a cologne!

      +Ma Gip France seems to be very strict on where you can fly a drone hence we didn't fly it much. We have been very happy with how the drone has done being packed in a regular backpack.
      I hope you have an amazing time in Spain. You should for sure visit Granada, do a free walking tour of the city and go to a flamenco show. It was our favorite by far:) -Ash

    Looks like you guys learned a ton about perfume!!
    I had no idea that light could affect perfumes that contained in glass like that -- _so interesting!_
    Can't wait for your next (fresh-scented!) adventure! *Lots of hugs and support from Japan!!* (^^)v

    Josh saves the best for the last. The drone shot. Josh, from Grasse, are you going to Paris and then to Croatia? And then to Balkans? Glad to see other travelers from Germany and Italy. Why don't you travel in groups? Saying bye makes me sad. Ash, what are your favorite movies? Josh, is there anything you don't know in this world? A geek interested in scents, colognes and perfumes!! You never fail to amaze me, Josh.

      +arun das you got our schedule correct. We are in Paris right now and leave for Croatia Sunday then we head to Bosnia and from there I don't have a plan.:)
      Traveling in a group can be fun but roup tours are expensive and when its just us we are free to do what we want and not have to worry about others and what they want. We used to travel in groups of 10-15 with the non profit we worked for and are enjoying traveling just the two of us.
      Two of my favorite movies would be Moulin Rouge and Inception. -Ash

    I have one cologne that I got for free as a gift for helping a perfume store move some fixtures one time about 8 years ago. I hardly ever wear it. :/

      Oh thats kinda cool though! I love stuff with a story. While it's been years since I've really worn a cologne (does once a month when I find the bottle count?) I've always liked the idea. Just never found one I thought was unique enough but still smelt high quality and not... weird for lack of a better word. This one is bright at first but mellows out and is quite smooth. I'm really liking it. /J

    Also, following my last RANT--sorry for the blast...I just want to be sure Josh doesn't overdo his signature scent...also, I really do love your videos and am always anxious to see them each morning. And you do feed my desire to travel. I haven't left the US since 2011 and am working really hard to make my travel dreams come true!!

      Great guys.
      It wasn't that I didn't want to go to France because I did. It just wasn't on the top of my list but with that said I have enjoyed France so so much more then I thought I would. I have heard that when visiting France the people can be rude if you don't speak french but i have honestly not ran into that once. Everyone has been so kind and friendly I have been so impressed and will have to come back to explore more areas. No regrets at all. France has been amazing:) Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We really appreciate it.-Ash

    • @meccool54
      @meccool54 8 років тому

      Yeah I understand and I don't know why we have this reputation cause we are not rude. It is hard to find someone fluent in English though I must confess :) so maybe that's the problem,some American tourists take it for granted that they can talk directly in English without asking if the person speaks it. And the reaction might sound rude :). I hope you will love Paris, all the American/ustralian vloggers that I watched loved it and found people nice there too. Keep up the good work !

    Hey Josh, you bought medicine, did you know? But let's start in the beginning. Your Cologne was invented 1709 in - guess where? - Cologne. And as Europe is quite European, it was a guy from Italy who mixed it while the City was under French occupation. First named „Aqua mirabilis“, it was a medicine against all minor diseases and conditions. (I bet swallowing it's 75 % alcohol had a great health effect :) )
    However. in 1810 Napoleon introduced a law forcing the disclosure of all so far secret recepees for drugs. The very next day the producers started to sell cologne as a parfume, so they could keep the secret.
    In those years, Cologne was quite chaotic. No street names, no house numbers. To get order into this, Napoleon assigned numbers to all houses. When numbering reached the house in the "Bell Alley" ("Glockengasse") where Eux de Cologne was produced, they where up to No. 4711. Giving parfumes numbers was not invented by Coco Channel, and not by the orderly Germans, but - unwillingly - by Napoleon.
    Now Ash, have a close look at Josh. He has to use the stuff externally, not internally :)

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  8 років тому

      O.o
      Thats so cool! I mean, I figured it was named after Cologne, but didn't know the history. Love me some Napoleonic rule era facts. Side fact. Did you know that, today, Eau de Cologne is a name designating the percentage of essential oils to alcohol? And men's "cologne" has a much lower essential oils content because the essential oils stay on our skin longer and stronger so a "perfume" would be WAY too potent. /J

    cool video :) do u guys purchase local sim cards and mobile internet data packs in every country, to contact eachother when not together, to check transport connections, routes and so on ? or u have a better travel hack for that?

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  8 років тому

      Thanks Vathsan, we have bought them in the past, but haven't recently. If you have the money we definitely recommend getting a data pack. Makes checking transportation schedules SO much easier. Wifi is still really sketchy to find a lot of times. I've only found free wifi at the airport here in France so far. Everywhere else you have to be a customer or have a French phone # to register. /J

    Question about the perfume: I'm not a fan of perfumes and never use them. Mainly because I haven't smelled any that don't make my head hurt, or smell like bug spray or some toxic chemical. Did the woman at the perfumery(?) mention how long perfumes are supposed to "linger" after a person leaves the room? Or how much people should put on? I'm wondering if, when people use a scent for a while, they loose their sense of how much to use and just use more--which tends to make those of us that smell their aroma, want to get as far away from them as possible! My thoughts are: if you want a signature scent, allow the rest of the world to appreciate that scent--BY CHOICE--not because we've been forced into the field of stench that the perfume wafts, only to linger for some extended intolerable timeframe. I would rather be able to remember the person from a small, pleasurable whiff followed by a breath of fresh air!!--End of RANT!!

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  8 років тому

      Gayle, I'm with you. That's actually the main reason I haven't worn a cologne in so long. I smelled too many people who overdid it. And don't get me started on teenage boys and their axe body spray.
      As far as how long they linger, that is completely up to the composition of the perfume itself (as far as I understand it). A good perfume is designed to leave a trail/linger with it's "base note".
      But yes, I'm pretty sure that you develop a personal tolerance to the smell if you wear it too much so overdosing is easy. I did a small application today to test it and Ashley said she never smelled me once. So, you'd have to be pretty close to smell it. And yes, there are some pretty rank perfumes out there. In fact, most of the ones I smelled at the perfumery didn't please me. But the one I picked smelled fresh yet manly and cost about 1/4 of what it would be in a retail store so thought I'd give it a whirl. /J
