Amazing little railway, and what a dream for the owner, having that in your garden, and riding the rails all day, never wanted a massive lottery win more. Beautiful garden as well, superb.
What a wonderful miniature railway despite the negative comments of others. I had a railway for a number of years in a garden centre in Lincolnshire but not on this scale. It certainly conveys the idea of a journey which I think is an important aspect of the design of a railway. Congratulations to all concerned.
@@joncoe9046 Southfield House, Louth. Was privileged to be able to visit a couple of years ago. A fantastic railway, a full journey takes upwards of 25 minutes!
Lovely ride through the gardens there. The railway must be a groundsman's nightmare but what a great little railway. It must have taken some time to lay out and landscape for but just lovely. Every kid and Big Kids dream to have...well this Big Kid anyway. Just grand. Thanks for posting it...3 years ago but, Cheers!
I remember when younger and working outside Maidenhead...there was a railway going around someone's garden and out to the road and back...However, never saw it in action...Another was at Runcorn 7" guage and about a mile long...again impressive. These miniature railway lines must take ages to do...and l admire the individual (s) who have that challenge...They are really incredible..and a marvellous way to relax...and to show others of steam..especially children. Thank you...👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
This video is very popular - new comments almost daily. However, recommend video in the first link in the first comment, which gives unobstructed view of the whole journey with no driver's back. There is also a John Raby video which features a map - very helpful in fathoming this complex layout.

What would top it off is my Holmside is a batch of 4, built by the same chap, it would be even more amazing if this was the 4th member, I know where the other ones are.
I believer the full length of the track is about 2 - 3 miles in real life, what that would be scaled up i am not sure. It takes about 20 minutes per full trip if you cover every inch of the track. Sometimes they have up to 4 trains running at the same time and you won't see them!

Silly description: "the largest . . . of its size". That designation can be applied to anything, even something very small, because anything larger is not "of its size" and therefore eliminated from the comparison. Still a good ride though.

The garden is enormous and immaculately kept - must require a small army of gerdeners.
Hoping all is well your way!
It's taken years for this video to come up in the suggestions. So Glad it finally did. Quite Enjoyable!

That's either very well laid track or a very steady cameraman. Absolutely mesmerising.
It's a very well laid track!!
Wow what a lay out, and you get to ride around and see all the grass and hedges that need cutting !

What a fabulous way to while away a sunny day!
I had the prevalidge of being invited to attend an open day here last year: absolutely brilliant!
I need this type of railroad service in my garden after retirement 😁
That's one huge garden and what a big boys toy that layout is
What an impressive railway!
Gives the phrase... track maintenance an all new meaning... Great stuff thanks for posting.

Life goals. This would gladly be on my bucket list if I knew where about it was.
That’s one hell of a train set!
Oh dear, every school man's dream here! and serious coin spent on this train set :-)
What a fantastic railway
That's bloody brilliant!
Great video, seems like a lot of fun, I would love to visit this.
Some garden, some train. Brilliant.
Thanks, so much! ✔❤ l enjoyed the trip 👊
Somebody did some hard work and spend a lot of money to build this thing.... wow.
Thank you very much for sharing this, and I've added it to my list of best things in life. When I die this is were I want to go lol

A dream come true I’d love a train set like this 😁
This is amazing.
Simply incredible 👍🏻
The bridge at 6:20 is amazing!!
Yes!
Reminds me of a pier railway. :)
Must've cost lots and lots of money only that. That's some serious money in that little park...
My Great Grand Daughter would love this.
This is so cool !! 😀
I wish wish wish wish I could go there and RIDE RIDE RIDE RIDE THAT LITTLE STEAMER!! OHH WHAT FUN THAT LOOKS TO BE!!!!😎
That trestle bridge alone must have cost a fortune as for the maintenance, strewth.🇦🇺
Wonderful, love it, but I would die if I had that, I'd ride it all the time & never go in to eat! Maybe theres a buffet car!
Must be a dream... fantastic 👍
He's livin' the life of a boy's dream.
Wow that's fantastic, I want one! Pity my garden's only 60 feet by 20 isn't it ?
Truly amazing
Amazing! So much track to maintain though.
Brilliant
a link to a track plan would be nice
Beaching must of missed this one !
fantastic track engineering
Nice back
Beats a walk in the garden! A Train and wildlife haven, thank you for sharing.
what a great little railway
Wow! Incredible! What a labor of love! (I know US spelling)
How could 14 people give this a thumbs down??? What is there to not like?
Thanks for the ride!!! :)

That's very very nice!
The ride around is really good!
I am rarely envious but!
Where is this?
how good is that
Where is this? I need to score it! 😜
louth lincolnshire :D
I would like to see the loco working.
Does anyone know what the total length of the layout is?
And, whereabouts in the UK is it?
The length is about 2 miles, it is located in Louth, England. I believe if the track was scaled up you would have about 25 miles worth.
What would top it off is my Holmside is a batch of 4, built by the same chap, it would be even more amazing if this was the 4th member, I know where the other ones are.
Jealous doesn't even come close lol
very fast....uhhh, cool
👍👍👍
At 13:02 you get to see the engine for the first time. Engineer with big coat blocks the view. Still was pretty cool though.
Why did the train cross the road?
Because it was a beautiful sunny day.
to get to the other side
Makes my Hornby clockwork layout seem a bit small by comparison.
I’ve been there! :D
Hornby or Bachmann's engine, and where is it...
Are you joking mate? Obviously scratch built by a skillful model engineer
Couldn't we get different camera angles?
From a single camera on a single run?
nice to see someone spending there money properly
speechless :)

Exquisite! What's the scale mileage of track in this immense system, please?

Looks like 1/8th scale so 2-3 would be 16-24 miles. Love the scenery.
1/8 th seems about right at 7.25 inches, when true 1/8 th would be 7.06 inches at true 1/8 gauge
1/8th scale looks about right, although 1/8th gauge is 7 inches, not 7.25 inches, as is the norm.
According to one of the other videos it is a 7.25 inch railway
Literally just said to myself, I would love to take my Holmside up there for the day, and what loco is up front, Bloody Holmside. It’s meant to be.
Hehehehehehehe, old man living his dream!
Hehe hehe hehe who's that Mark?
Nice, but it ain't no Train Mountain (it only has 30+ MILES of track on 2000 acres).

Where is the SHLR?
It is located in lincolnshire, they do open days but i think they may be closed until next year now.
Southfield House Light Railway. A private 7 1/4 gauge railway in Lincolnshire with a track length of over a mile and a ride of around 20 minutes.
If I owned that I'd face divorce..........

Narrow gauge
Any link or number to contact them?
I dont know of a link directly. i have contacted his secretary to ask if there are contact details.
Utterly brilliant
Such a shame that we didn't really see what the engine was.
That's not the idea of the video otherwise it would be called "a look at a couple of engines" lol
Silly description: "the largest . . . of its size".
That designation can be applied to anything, even something very small, because anything larger is not "of its size" and therefore eliminated from the comparison. Still a good ride though.
That would also mean you could reverse it the other way. "This little railway is the -largest- smallest of it's kind." It's the only one of itself.
@@casual_boredom7195 Exactly
I think, in this case, it should have read "the largest ... of this gauge" i.e. the largest of this size of rails.
@@kevinmk2002 Maybe that's what he meant.
mpeterll forget about the description , just enjoy the ride 😀
Great track get tired of grey coat and zero forward vision
