idk why so many people complain about that, u just lean the passenger seat forward the perfect amount for your drink and then stuff it between the seatback and the back of the interior. I’ve done this tons of times even with those weak fast food cardboard cups with the plastic lids. I wouldn’t drive too hard with it but I wouldn’t do that with a normal cupholder either
My dad passed away in Morro Bay CA in 2004 and left to me his 95 Miata. I will never sell My Father The Car... I do all the work on him myself. No one has ever touched him but me.
My Miata is from my grandma who also passed away. I also am never going to sell it and while I don't have much money right now, I plan to do a lot with it in the future as a dedicated car to her memory
OfficialHiddentest who gives a shit about aerodynamics when the car is about as fuel efficient as a LS swapped Range Rover considering it's a 4 banger. I drive with them up everywhere, it's such a nice touch that not a lot of cars have
I have a '95 with 137000 on it. Mostly stock except a suspension setup from Flyin' Miata that transforms the car. Ive owned NA Miatae for 11 years and I'm still amazed at how much FUN I wring out of my NA every time I drive it. I believe it is by far the best sports car value, ever. Another thing that adds to the value is the fact that, with proper maintenance, you can flog these cars all day long, day after day, and they just keep going and going. Mine seems to run better the harder I flog it! Thanks for the excellent review!
@@N12Gautam sold it then bought it back for a fraction of what I sold for because the engine blew due to guy I sold it to but looking for another engine.. heavily modified the suspension and other things but I am not selling her again lol
Good review. Thanks for spreading the word. If you've never driven a 1st gen Miata, there are no words to describe why everyone smiles while driving it. It's like a street legal go-cart. So fun!
I think the chassis for the NA was a modified FC or FB chassis, or maybe just a similar design which would make sense since the same people worked on it. I do know that the gearbox was just an RX7 gearbox with different ratios and a shorter throw. Not sure if it was an fb or fc tho
@@maverickloggins5470 The chassis wasn't based on anyhting else, it was completely new for the Miata. The reason some parts like the transmission and the rear differential are so similar to other Mazda cars is because it was cheaper to make it that way because they were using proven parts and they already had the machines to produce them.
Ivan Nichols I think that goes without saying for most stock cars. Especially the Miata, so yeah it could have more power, but it doesn't really matter to me.
Koga it just needs a supercharger really, just to add some torque. That's what I'm going to be doing to mine. It's fine when you're revving the pants off it, but when you put your foot down in 5th you don't really go anywhere. That's the only thing I dislike about it. Otherwise 115hp doesn't matter to me 👌
Actually when putting the top down, better to unlatch first, then unzip window as it reduces the pressure on the zipper. Nice vid, glad you guys took my advice to do a NA compare when I private messaged you a while back! ;)
I own a 1995 stock Miata in red with 58,000 miles. It is my all time favorite car. The only thing I wished it had was a tilt steering wheel. I am 5'10" & struggle to get my legs under the steering wheel when getting in. Great video.
I bought my Miata in April of 1995. One of the BEST decisions I ever made!!! While parts are not as readily available as this guy made it sound, I haven't had to replace much except exhaust, brakes, tires, water pump & radiator. The only chassis part I have had to change is a rear sway bar link. Over 230,000 miles on her, changed the timing belt at 100,000 (could have put it back in the package & returned it as new). The AGM battery in the trunk is a win! Factory battery lasted 10 years, dealer battery 8 years...22 years old, on her 3rd battery!!!! One of the coolest things is the response you get from the Miata when you are driving. In January of 1996, we had a blizzard here. Being a rear wheel drive, I had a full tank of gas & loaded the trunk with hardback books....was able to get out of my complex. At a red light, I had to make a left turn uphill....I felt that the rear was gonna slide before it actually did....I made a corrective maneuver & it never felt like I was losing control. If you are able to get your hands on one of these gems, I would HIGHLY recommend it. I do agree with this guy that the auto tranny does not do the Miata justice, but when I enquired about it, this is an option available to allow everyone to enjoy this car.
That laugh sounds so familiar. It sounds exactly like me every time I put the top down in my tired but healthy '96 and head out onto the twisty two-lane roads that crisscross the surrounding countryside. Driving this thing remains some of the purest joy I've ever known.
I just got mine 1995, na, white, manual 120k, good condition, lots of fun for summer drive in Chicago. I watched your video many times before and after I bought the car. Very helpful. Thank you so much.
Just to give everyone a good idea I'm 6 foot about 225 pounds a pretty big dude and this thing fits me like a glove, I can see how being an inch or two taller or wider would cause problems but I fit amazingly, almost as if me and my Miata are one
I have a '92. Bought it for $3000 with 106k miles. Beautiful condition and no mods. I've been making all of the all of the maintenance upgrades and repairs since purchase.Brakes next and bushings. I absolutely love the handling! Worth every penny spent. No issues with size- I added a throwback trunk rack to carry my paddle board and anything else that can't fit in the trunk or inside the car.
I just sold my 1996 and this video makes me regret that decision so much. Thanks for the memories of my favorite car! You really cover your reviews perfectly. Everything I want to know you always include. Thanks!
I have a 93 Miata, with 117,000 miles on it and it Pulls like a Freight Train, had it up to 115 MPH and still pulling, I bought it in 2011 with 83,000 on it, had the timing belt changed and water pump , all the coolant hoses changed, running Royal Purple oil, and redline oil in trans, and rear end , My MPG at 67 MPH, is 35 MPG , so I have owned 6 Miata's all NA'S 1990 to 1993 , I have owned 2 1992 Sunburst Miata's with Hardtops, and I Turbo one of them with a carb Legal turbo, from Flying Miata, did a 14:06 in the Quarter Mile at 97 MPH at Sacramento raceway, had it up to 131 MPH on Highway 395 and still pulling but had to let out of it because My Levi Jacket was lifting out of the car with the top down so , My Miata see's 90 MPH almost everyday,

I had a black 1995 Miata and it was my favorite car that I ever drove. Traded it in when I got married and I've regretted it ever since. Great car. Impractical as hell, but always puts a smile on your face.
Great review! I'm glad that you recognized it as having the R package, which other journalists totally missed or didn't realize. The example is a beautiful find.
I bought my first two NA's within the last 3 months... The first was just a $1,000 toy/project car. I ended up falling in love with it. It was a 92 w/ a long nose. The rocker panel ended up being rusted from the inside out. I was devastated. But I bought a new rear quarter panel, cut out the rust (Which really wasn't that bad- just the exterior of the rocker panel). Coated the inside w/ POR-15. Welded on the new panel with a friend (first time I've experienced body work) and re-attached the drain hose to the sink, which is the reason why I began rusting in the first place. Then I saw a MINT 97 w/ LSD and the 1.8 for sale for only $3,000. Car could've easily sold for nearly double that. California car all it's life. Garaged all it's life. No door dings or scratches whatsoever. Owned by an old guy, who had the Miata; mug, clock, hat and sign that you prop up against the cars at car shows. The guy didn't even know what size engine it had- kept telling me it had the 1.4L, even put it on the sign. Still had the original top in excellent condition. I HAD to buy that car, lol. Miles above the first. Anyhow- now I'm in the process of selling the first one. Love these cars. Surprisingly, lots of people do I'm finding out.
I've owned a 90% bone stock NA for 15 years. Four years late, but a $25 sheet of Dynamat stuck on the inner door skin, or, for $5.00, a 12" strip of six inch wide self-adhesive rubber backed duct insulation from Lowes (which was actually quieter than Dynamat), kills almost all road noise; door-shut now sounds more like a BMW and the door speakers are actually intelligible....
Mr Stonebag I personally own an automatic (out of necessity) I’m 16 and I bought an automatic NB. The car is still EXTREMELY fun to drive. While stick might be more fun, the automatic is still more fun than most cars on the market.
I had a 96 that I gutted 300 lbs of weight from and had full i/h/e, hardtop, Tein coilovers, etc...That car was a fucking rocket, even with only ~140 hp. My next new car purchase will be a ND hopefully, unless the wife makes me get a practical car. In that case, I'll buy a Civic turbo hatch...
Hey! That's my car! Yup, I used to own a '96 MX5. I loved that little car and later traded it for a 1999 and then a 2003. The 1996 came with a bonus too, a super amp in the trunk.
I don't know why everyone complains about non power steering, I don't have a Miata (although it's my dream car) but I do have a Mazda B2200 (with Kia Swap) and it has mechanical steering. I think it steers great, I've even hauled up to 1k lbs in the back and the steering has never been a issue. When I buy a Miata, I am hoping to find one with mechanical steering.
Duuuude '94-'95 R package are SO RARE! I'd be all over that car. I think '96 R package is the rarest but it's OBD-II so has other changes. Not sure if specs are the same.
The first gen miata is the most fun you can have for the price, throw the roof down, put the lights up and enjoy the drive. Who honestly cares about straight line speed in this car when that is completely the opposite of what it was built to do? If you want power don't buy this car
Sam Kent I'm planning on. getting a Miata and I'm iffy on both, it is a fun amazing car stock but then again it is slow, could be faster but overall it is worth it
C0DZombies12 it's definitely worth it, if you want more power you can always throw a turbo or supercharger on there, that's what I plan to do with mine just because I want more low end grunt. Nobody who buys these cars buys them because they want to win traffic light drag races
95 low mileage NA-8 se pkge. owner here ! Its January & in 4 hr.s , I'll drop the top & drive into Manhattan & dice with traffic . " Life doesn't suck "
This is my car! (in black) though I've got 68,000 miles on it. Didn't know they came in automatic - love the manual. Never had any problems with it.. It really is a fun car!
Rwd 1.6 DOHC comes in 90 hp 115 hp (130 rare) 5 speed manual runs on petrol 50\50 weight distrubution total weight 940kg the motor is actually the one from mazda 323 (but modified) its really easy to work on this car only problem is the rust in miatas...
Really funny watching you go through the controls after watching so many videos of modern cars. Do love these things, even if they are a bit lacking in factory form. And dude, they had a lot of roll from factory. Once you're up to speed through a corner you do get a lot of feedback, but if you think the body roll in the new ND's is bad.. Yea.
my dream car, if everything goes right i'll finally make that dream come true next year, i really really hope i can (here in portugal Mazda Miata is not that cheap, the better priced one that im looking at is a 1991 that costs 6800 euros)
I went from an ND to an NA and I have more fun in my NA. It's a complete joy to drive and has so much personality. You should get one to tinker with ;)
Next time you're in cali I need to have you drive mine. 1994 Miata "laguna blue and tan" edition. Tan leather with every option including a dealer installed wood grain trim. Has 14,100 original miles on it and is near mint. I can't drive it anywhere without a middle aged man asking to buy it from me haha. Was my grandmas car and the car I learned to drive manual in. These cars are so damn fun. I will tell you one thing, if you want to experience the power, drive with a passenger. Then make them get out. You can actually feel a hell of a difference haha. This coupled with my cobb stage 1 focus st, I have all bases covered.
Love the older car review! I can't afford any of the newer sport cars but a 90s era could fit into the budget. I owned a few early 90s Celicas and boy did I ever enjoy driving them. Please try to mix in a more older car reviews if you can. Thanks.
Literally one of the best and reliable these go forever yup needs to be a 5speed all the way Basically if you ever want to learn how to drive a 5speed this is definitely the car to do it in very very easy and fun Mazda didn't go wrong with this car 😊👍👌
themessiah809 We're going to try our best to add used cars back into our portfolio. Next month we've scheduled a 2001 Honda Prelude Type-SH so be on the lookout for that!
I bought a red 97 with 68000 Miles on it for 2500$ no rust, loaded with everything but leather, no LSD, hard top. It did get a respray. Tinted back window, Konig heliums wheels. Really is my baby. Will onlly go 180km/H at redline...so unfortunately geared low.
To lower convertible top: unlatch front two hooks, THEN unzip and fold down rear vinyl window, then pull back top. This particular Miata R would go for $15K+ today.
I'm a pop up headlights guy. Currently trying to sell my 91 RX-7 to get a 90-97 Miata or 86. I don't care about power. I just like to drive on windy mountain roads with a cup of water in my cupholder.
I am seriously considering a mk1 mx5 as my second car and my first rear wheel drive car. I have heard that mechanically they are sound. I am just concerned about RUST. Should I still buy one? If I use rust sealant to seal chassis, keep it washed regularly and get rid of mud in wheel arches regularly, will it not rust??????
Being 6 feet tall surprisingly I fit in my NA just fine and and its ben my daily for about 4 months. But at least for me it was very hard to find a NA/NB on the west coast. and I looked for about 4 months before I finally found mine in Orange County
Drove mine for the first time last week, already doing doughnuts. If you need to learn stick I highly recommend a miata. I went from not being able to move it to redlining it nonstop in literally a week.
I loved my NA Miata before it shot a rod through the block. I'll admit I wasn't exactly going easy on it, but FUCK now I can't drive my car and it makes me very sad. It was a little 1.6 L so I wasn't too sad about it, as I was going to 1.8 swap it anyway. I just didn't expect the engine to explode so soon lmao
I can't stand have spoiled this guy reviews, when I look at the other ones and he calls a regular key dated doesn't make any sense. He just seems totally convinced that all of the modern tech features are the absolute right way to go.
I picked mine up for 3500 4 years ago. Got the 99 motor dropped in now, torsen diff, act clutch/aluminum flywheel, headers, car back, and cams on order. Dangerous car for your wallet. So addicting to mod. 😂
When I bought my Miata, I blew a fuse playing with the headlights.
No Regrets
I probably would too if I could buy one
@Burnouts&Buttstuff ye just use the up option without the lights turned on and it won’t break shit
"Nice cupholders" said no na miata owner ever

Hey! That's my car! Yup, I used to own a '96 MX5. I loved that little car and later traded it for a 1999 and then a 2003. The 1996 came with a bonus too, a super amp in the trunk.

"Out back it has the classic Miata shi uh... design..."
Nobody reviews a Miata the way you do! Bravo!
Duuuude '94-'95 R package are SO RARE! I'd be all over that car. I think '96 R package is the rarest but it's OBD-II so has other changes. Not sure if specs are the same.
I might have to cop me a Miata to practice driving stick. Just need to find one
Jay Make cop?
Ivan Nichols "buy"
Jay Make lol I'm 15 and I don't even understand half of the new terms these days. I knew what 'cop' meant but I saw it as cop, like officer.
Ivan Nichols it's really a term used when people buy shoes or clothing normally lol
Jay Make oh yeah, gotcha
I had a 2008 N/C and to me that was the best of the old and the new. Great second car.
If you want power buy a miata and turbo it :^)
I love it in the twisties. Generally, the other traffic falls behind, because they can't do curves as safely.
My 93 is Jackson M45 supercharged, and it makes it much sweeter.
I have a 93 NA that I got w/ 54k miles on it, really good first car. absolutely love to daily it!
Rwd 1.6 DOHC comes in 90 hp
115 hp (130 rare)
5 speed manual
runs on petrol
50\50 weight distrubution
total weight 940kg
the motor is actually the one from mazda 323 (but modified)
its really easy to work on this car
only problem is the rust in miatas...
Yea.
my dream car, if everything goes right i'll finally make that dream come true next year, i really really hope i can
(here in portugal Mazda Miata is not that cheap, the better priced one that im looking at is a 1991 that costs 6800 euros)
I went from an ND to an NA and I have more fun in my NA. It's a complete joy to drive and has so much personality. You should get one to tinker with ;)
The Adventure Auto it’s cause of safety regulations, I’m sure you can tune the nd to make it more fun
Thank you for another classic car review. I miss them.
looking to get one of these... fun doesn't always equal fast
Previouosly owned; Triumph TR6, Spitfire, MGB and Alfa Romeo Spider. My 95 Miata is the best. The BEST, Jerry . . . THE BEST!
I got a 1994 Miata with 102,470 for $2500.
ImChanyuth what's the most you'd buy? I'm looking at one that is 87k miles for $4.5k and it's perfect exterior interior and engine
Wow that a good price, What year?
David Penn it's all depends on the car and who you buy it from. But see if you can bring it dow to $2,800 or lower.
My 1990 is all original and sounds identical to this one. Great sound!
Please. Dropping the top is a BREEZE compared to my old TR6! Great review!
Congrats on a million!
This is a convertible that you will enjoy as long as you keep it in Tip-Top shape never boring always and enjoyful vehicle to drive😁!!!
YEESSS!!!! so glad you're back reviewing used car's!!!....wait, before i get too excited please confirm you're back reviewing used car's.
themessiah809 We're going to try our best to add used cars back into our portfolio. Next month we've scheduled a 2001 Honda Prelude Type-SH so be on the lookout for that!
Hell yes thank you!
Redline Reviews omg! yess, thank you so much for bringing that back, would love to see that review, definitely will be on the look out.
Here in 2020 cause I just got one
U should do more old sports cars like this like an integra, Nissan 240, or a Honda prelude
YES SOFYAN YES AN OLD CAR REVIEW
My dream car is a 97 Mazda Miata
I bought a red 97 with 68000 Miles on it for 2500$ no rust, loaded with everything but leather, no LSD, hard top. It did get a respray. Tinted back window, Konig heliums wheels. Really is my baby. Will onlly go 180km/H at redline...so unfortunately geared low.
That door bell! I disconnected mine.
I want a Miata to eventually be my first car
I'm in love with this car
the annoying open door chime can be easily turned off permanently by disconnecting a cable underneath the steering rack area if i'm not mistaken :)
ShuffleToExpresss thanks because that's the first thing I'm doing when I get mine, I love the car, but hate that chime
Thanks for that I hate that mine does that annoying noise when the door is open lol
Love your reviews , you got style/your own touch! Lol
I love the sound of miatas
Nice review! The miata is such a fun car.
To lower convertible top: unlatch front two hooks, THEN unzip and fold down rear vinyl window, then pull back top. This particular Miata R would go for $15K+ today.
Excellent review!!! thumbs-up all the way. thanks for posting
.....ZOOM...ZOOM
I'm a pop up headlights guy. Currently trying to sell my 91 RX-7 to get a 90-97 Miata or 86. I don't care about power. I just like to drive on windy mountain roads with a cup of water in my cupholder.
Saber is love, Saber is life hi takumi
You must have mistaken me for someone else.
thanks for the review, in totally gonna buy one now!
Timeless design, love it!
BRUH! You need to get an NA Miata! Now I want to go buy one. :D
victor bozzo I read that in Rick's voice wtf
I am seriously considering a mk1 mx5 as my second car and my first rear wheel drive car. I have heard that mechanically they are sound. I am just concerned about RUST. Should I still buy one? If I use rust sealant to seal chassis, keep it washed regularly and get rid of mud in wheel arches regularly, will it not rust??????
I own a 2010 NC and now I’m looking at a 1997 NA 😎.
I average about 30 MPG, not sure why anyone would rate it as low as 21 MPG unless there was a problem with the car.
ConGie-Personal is yours a 1.6. my 1.8 and other people get 20-24, but we live in the city and it’s all city driving.
Being 6 feet tall surprisingly I fit in my NA just fine and and its ben my daily for about 4 months. But at least for me it was very hard to find a NA/NB on the west coast. and I looked for about 4 months before I finally found mine in Orange County
And never buy one from a dealer. There were a few from dealers that were pretty much what I wanted but they were asking like $8000
Price of this car around SF to LA is at least $2000 inflated.
***** I know, it was just hard to find one that was had around 150,000 miles and a manual
seen one out in jersey for 6g with under 70k miles
Drove mine for the first time last week, already doing doughnuts. If you need to learn stick I highly recommend a miata. I went from not being able to move it to redlining it nonstop in literally a week.
I got a 1995 Lexus sc400 low miles 50k and a 1990 Mazda rx7 convertible. come on over and review them. also 1979 rx7 if u like too.
Joseph esposito rx7... drool.
17:45 You thought about buying a Miata as your toy car, and use your Miata as your daily. Sounds about right.
buy one put springs in it turbo it and add to your collection, you know this dude could
Really enjoyed this video dude!
I want one really bad!
R package! So rare now.
amazing find of a car, great video
I can't stand have spoiled this guy reviews, when I look at the other ones and he calls a regular key dated doesn't make any sense. He just seems totally convinced that all of the modern tech features are the absolute right way to go.
I picked mine up for 3500 4 years ago. Got the 99 motor dropped in now, torsen diff, act clutch/aluminum flywheel, headers, car back, and cams on order. Dangerous car for your wallet. So addicting to mod. 😂
The popups make it look like its smiling!
One of your main gripes with this car is the suspension, its it worn out or just softly sprung from factory??
