    Great tutorial...honestly LOVE IT! Thank you for doing it. Question: When you double click on the photo (it enlarges on the screen). I have little thumbnails on the left hand side and I have NO IDEA how to get rid of them. Secondly, you have a window with data on the right, how do I get that? THANKS!

    • @Jcwphoto

      Thanks. To remove the thumbnails, there is a skinny divider. You should see something that looks like an equal sign but pointed up and down. Slide the divider to the left to hide the window. If you are missing the one on the right, slide the divider to the left. Wish I could add photos. Hope this helps.

    Great video Can you explain how to move pictures in the contact sheet. I am trying to put the photos in a specific order to get a work flow. I thought maybe the slide show would do it but I can't seem to figure out how to move the images around.

    • @Jcwphoto

      Order is dependent on the sort. There are a variety of different types of sorting options. I don't think you can place them in order. You could rename them like 1, 2, 3, etc to make it work for you . I use culling or the colors to sort my images but I never need them in a specific order.

I ingested a collection of photos from lots of different places and photo shoots, and most of them got the wrong IPTC info. How do I batch process change them to the correct information? So far Photomechanic is incredibly fast and easy to use. But it has a learning curve.

      Hit Ingest which is cmd or ctrl G. Click the Metadata IPTC Template. Fill out what you want it to say. Open a folder select all the images. Go to Image/and select Apply Metadata IPTC Template to photos. That will change everything.

    This is my first day using PM 6 and I'm not certain it's the right program, although your video is outstanding! I have over 20,000 photos many of them dupes as Apple kept merging my photo libraries. What I want to do is eliminate the duplicates (I tried Gemini but it didn't get anywhere close to all the dupes), delete the shots I don't want to keep, and put the rest into either a "catalog" or a folder. No, that would not really make sense. You can cull or tag in lightroom. Just that the import process is really slow. Most people would send from PM6 to Adobe Photoshop. Raw files would open up in Adobe Camera Raw. ACR is exactly the same as the Lightroom develope module. If you have a .jpg file once in Photoshop you can go filter/camera raw in you will be in ACR. I am not positive what you are asking. Are these Raw files, jpg or what? There isn't an actual folder field in the metadata. If you have photoshop and open your image by using the path, File/File Info. those are you field options. If you are using raw files most programs with change the side .xmp file. If you are using .jpg file. You can just click on the "i" and type in a field and it will automatically save to the .jpg file. You can save a template and apply it to all the image that folder.

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  2 роки тому

      If they are raw files it saves the info in the .xmp file automatically. Truthfully, if you are using Lightroom, I would not use Photo Mechanic. Photo Mechanic is a browser like Bridge is a Browser. Lightroom has a browser built in. I would just do the process of tagging/culluing in Lightroom instead. Lightroom is slower than PM but if you use Lightroom you have to catalog no matter what. If you use PM I would open the image in Photoshop. If it is a RAW file it will open in Adobe Camera Raw first. All RAW files need to be converted in a RAW processor. The develop module in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw are exactly the same, they just look different. Hope this helps.

    Hi John. Have a quick question. When I do my culling on PM it´s creating a sidecare the xmp I think? Can it be embedded or the culling wont be respected if I drag them to Capture One? What I would love is to do my Culling on PM but once I import them to C1 I see the culling but without generating sidecars or whatever. Is it possible?

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  4 роки тому

      Yes, it creates an .xmp file. You can't overwrite a raw file. Any metadata or raw editing changes to a raw file are stored in the .xmp You can delete the .xmp it won't hurt anything but any rating, labeling and metadata you have done in the culling process will be lost. It is just the way the process works. It isn't specific to PM but to RAW.

      @@Jcwphoto Thanks so much! :). I understand now. Let ask you something. If I do my rating in PM then upload the folder to C1, and take the rating off there and re rate them inside c1, and erase the xmp then I will have the same ratings just made on c1 based on what I did in PM, right? Another q. If it´s a Raw thing why when I do my rating on C1 why I don´t see any lose xmps?

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  4 роки тому

      You should need to erase what you did in PM. Capture one can read .xmp. I a pretty sure C1 by default stores the info in the catalog(which I hate) You can change the preferences to have it create an .xmp file if you like. Don't overthink the process. Figure out what works for you and stick to that. I like .xmp better that cataloging because you can move the files from location to location and never lose that metadata.

However, you can do what you said above, it will work. My suggestion would be to import, cull(tag the ones you like) then you can easily select all the one you don't like and remove them. I don’t have it and do not want to use it. I hate cataloging features. Sorry

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  3 роки тому

      Cataloging is the main reason I don't use Lightroom. I take too many images and constantly move them. This process screws up cataloging. I would love to make a video but I am not sponsored by PM so I would have to purchase it. Also I would need a separate computer for the videos which does not makes sense. I would check camera bits website for info.

      When you select Save As. Click on watermarking and there is position under Image logo. Click the box where you want the logo to be. You can also select the scale and opacity.

    Hi John, i have a question... I using two cameras in the same time on a wedding day, so I have two (or even more) different folders. how can I sort the photos in capture time from the different folders? can you please help me? Thank you Franci. pd. the video is great, I am going to make few settings like metatags, copywrite etc. Thank you

      You can't from different folders. I would put all the images in one folder and soft by capture time. I never put images from the same event in different folders. There isn't anything wrong with different folders I just feel it complicates the process.

    I would really like to use this program. The only problem is that I purchased Photo Mechanic Plus. I have never used this program in any type of format prior to getting it now. Plus, every video i've searched, everyone is using an Apple product. I've never owned an Apple product, I only use Windows. None of the videos give a clear indication on how to use this product on a Windows computer. Plus, none of the setups they pull up look the same. Most of the videos are between 2 or 3 years old. I did find a video that was nine months old, but it had nothing to do with how to set this product onto a Windows computer. Can anyone help? Can anyone help me out?

      @@Jcwphoto So is FTP mainly just for sports photographers so they can get photos on the web right away? Or would it be helpful for wedding photographers/content creators as well even just to back up photos right away while traveling or to post online to help with SEO? Can't decide if I should start using it or not. I have never heard of it until your tutorial!

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  Рік тому

      It is was mainly used in the editorial/journalism world. That is really what PM was designed for. You could use it to back up online to something like a NAS. Do you have a NAS or a website you can even setup ftp? It really would not help with SEO. Usually to post to the web you would use CMS these days. It used to be popular to upload images to the web. It really depends what you are using to build the site. FTP is a possibility, but there are other options depending on other factors. Uploading to a cloud might work as well.

    Good tutorial, however, for beginners you did not cover the next important step, how to get your tagged pictures into Lightroom, other than that, it was very good, thanks

    • @Jcwphoto
      @Jcwphoto  3 роки тому

      Well that is because it would be an illogical process. Lightroom already has an integrated browser and the ability to tag images. The process for PM would be to send straight to Adobe Camera Raw which is the same as the Lightroom develop module and then to Photoshop.

    • @kirk0831

      @@Jcwphoto Still many people adopt workflow of PM to LR. Simply because of the speed. Especially for a wedding photographer with a need to handle thousands of photos. And not all photos require LR for RAW processing.
