  • A quick installation video for the OEM Harley Davidson Switchback seat P/N: 52000655 on the 2022+ Nightster. Mine is REV.B which doesn't have the short tether issue noted below, but the seat has an inherent design flaw which binds with the factory sissy bar slightly.
    5:03 Design Flaw
NOTE: The original switchback seat REV.A has a separate issue where the steel cable tether was too short because it was mounted in the seat from the factory in the wrong location causing it to not raise far enough to re-fuel. If you pick up this seat from a third party and they have older stock from early 2024, you may run into this issue and need a $20 kit from HD to remedy this issue.

Thanks for this tutorial. I’m thinking of replacing mine with the sundown seat.

Nice.. I was considering S&S, but it retains a bit too much of the stock leaf blower look, so I'm waiting for other options. The best is probably Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde to get the option to switch sound profiles, other than it costs a fortune..

What I put on is available and inexpensive from O’reilly. I needed to have a sound presence to save my ass around here where I live.
That J & H is awesome. My rider bro put one on his Breakout and it was sick!
      Ride safe 🤜🏽🤛🏽

The Switchback is sold out everywhere. I've been calling all over the country. HD says it's backordered until November. BS

I know when they first released this seat, there was a tech bulletin published for it because the tether cable was mounted in the incorrect place causing the seat to not raise far enough to actually refuel the bike. That was earlier this year. I waited until May or so and the new seats already had this fixed. There is a possibility that they might fix the other issue with this seat where it catches on the sissy bar upon opening it and that could be a possibility on the backorder.. not sure though..

Does this seat sit lower than the OEM seat? Do you know if the seat is comfortable for the passenger?

The switchback seat seems to sit slightly higher than the oem seat and it does push you forward about an inch. I'm 6'2 and I find it was slightly reduces the space for my legs on the pegs, but the trade-off is the material is very grippy and you will not slide back when pushing the bike hard. The switchback pillion seat as also shorter than the oem pillion seat, but my wife doesn't find it uncomfortable riding backpack (she is ~100lbs).
