Great video, I don't mind that it's less edited! Your voiceover is great. I always like when you describe why you're fishing a certain way, like how you explained that stripers like to eat very close to bottom. Thanks for the awesome content!
Hey there,… I’m an old school Striper fisherman on the west coast since 1969… There’s this spot called Sutro Rock at the west end of San Francisco… perhaps you’ve heard tell of this place….there would be 20 guys elbow to elbow casting 3 and 4 oz. Bucktails 75 to 100 yards out … never seen a fight there.. everyone knew how to make it work… there was always a good current just like your Canal and we used it to our advantage… crossovers were rare if you can believe that … many good days fishing that rock ….many limits of big fat cows… back then,.. the limit was 3 per day… You can tell who was old school and who was a FNG (fucking new guy) … lol… all the veterans whipped conventional heavers and the newcomers were all spin fisherman and watched scratching their heads of our near 200 yard cast… I’m ‘63 now and still heaving a 12’ St. Croix … today… back then it was the yellow Lamiglas and they were fiberglass custom rods … then transitioned to Graphite, Boron and now Carbon and Graphene… you know,.. the real expensive shit… lol 🤣 OK, enough of my babble… Tight lines to all… 👍😎🤙
Thanks for your great story, so here's mine. The only time went after Stripers specifically is when I was visiting a buddy I've known since I was 18 yrs old in SF. One of his buddies ran a big charter boat (it had a catamaran hull design) out of Fisherman's Wharf. We were actually after salmon that morning, but only 1 or 2 had been caught, between approx 25 people after 4 hrs of a lot of nothing! Around 10am the captain heard over the radio, that the stripers were hitting and had us vote on whether to keep after the salmon (that weren't around) or try for some stripers. Yep, the stripers won, so we headed over to The West/Southwest part of Alcatraz Island, about 1000 yards off of it. We then drifted with the current that was ebbing, along with our live baits that we kept about a foot off the bottom. Within no more than 5 minutes several people get hooked up, and not long after the entire boat was hooked up. 🎉 The best part, the fish were huge and plentiful, with most people hooking up several times, but the limit at the time was 2 fish per-day, per-person, so a bunch of catch and release for many including myself. The two that I kept, easily weighed 25 -30lbs. They were long, fat and almost to heavy for me to lift up into the boat, and I was a lean 225 and 6ft tall, so I wasn't a weak person 💪. All in all, it turned into one of the best days of fishing for my entire life and I'm 61, and I've been fishing since I was about 5 years old!! BTW: This all happened in the early 2000s, when I was much younger and healed much quicker.. LOL...✌️👍🤙👨🍳
Went to the Canal for the first time two weeks ago. Learned the fishing etiquette from UA-cam and watching other anglers. Not too hard to see how other fisherman are fishing and doing the same
Please do more longer unedited videos like this! Also, going forward can you please link all of your fishing gear/tackle in the description (rod, reel, leader, braid, terminal tackle, lure, etc)? Love the vids, keep up the excellent content
I just got into fishing and I can say I'm getting addicted. Please make a video for best spots to fish in new England with pond/lake names! Much appreciated
Great vid man! That’s how the canal goes. There’s plenty of fish for everyone! If everyone casts in order then it can make for some incredible fishing.
Berkley Powerbait Saltwater jerk Chad ………mullet color. Absolute slayer, no one really uses it but for some reason it catches every species when I’m saltwater fishing. Stripers LOVE EM.
I went to cape cod about a month ago around this time and when i went to nauset, there was a massive school of striper about 100-200 feet off the shore, there was a line of like 20 fishermen casting. Every time they would get hit seconds after their jig hit the water and pull in a 30 inch striper, one of the most crazy things I’ve ever seen
Combat salmon fishing in Alaska could get very intense at times! When someone hooked up, they would yell fish on and if people didn't reel in fast enough someone would go fown the row of fisherman cutting lines. I even witnessed a guy pull his pistol on another angler demanding that he give him the roe it was unbelievable! After that nonsense, it was tome to make the 1.5 hour drive back to base!! Thanks for sharing!
great video, I was so excited to hear that one of my favorite youtubers live close to me. I don't know why I think that is so cool, but it would be so cool to run into him when I was fishing..
Glad you have been having luck. My buddy and I went fishing this morning from 2:30 to 9 and we didn't see any action. Might try again soon. Tight lines
If you want a good time come to Chicago for the salmon, trout, and steelhead runs. Mainly early fall through mid spring. I would recommend a small bucktail jig with a bobber for steelhead, and kastmasters, cleos, and even some flies for the kings and cohos. For trout, it’s a little like Massachusetts. You can use worms, minnows, small spinners, and soft plastic jigs. Just a suggestion for any of your fall trips.
Hey man, I was thinking about going to the mid Hudson River and fishing for striper, do you think they would still be biting there around this time of year??
How many oz is your hogy pro tail ? I’ve never caught a striper and I’m from the Marblehead area. I’ve been using top water bait like the yo zuri long cast minnows but those float and I can’t seem to ever see fishes up top. I’m planning on going down to the cap cod canal and hoping to catch at least 1 striper.
Yeah if you can get out on the lake on a kayak or if you have a boat even better big small mouth bass in lake Champlain if your willing to drive a little go to crown point under the massive bridge hope this helps
I'm gonna employ your techniques here at my local "cape cod canal" the California aqueduct. Current is running strong here as well and depths of 20 to 35 ft deep.
MORE KAYAK VIDEOS BRO... I JUST PURCHASED MY FIRST TUCKTEC IN BABY BLUE... START PUMPING THEM OUT SON... IM OUT HERE... SHOUTOUT TO BRIDGEPORT,CONNECTICUT... WE WATCHING!!!! 💪💪
They say large mount bass are plentiful and above average size. The also have carp which was the equivalent of catching a shark when I was a kid. Kind of want to avoid them now and try to focus on the bass.
They will never learn if no one snaps on them ever. Teach them to use a heavier jig so it doesn’t drift all the way down or he’ll just yell at them once😆 I don’t like confrontation either but at some point I’ve been pushed to far lol
I haven't fished the Canal in years... Far too many idiots down there nowadays... No regard for personal space... Those without a strong grasp of the English language are by far worst offenders...
