If you've eaten fish fingers, fast food fish sandwiches, fish and chips, cheap sushi, or fish balls, then you've definitely eaten this fish before. The Atlantic Pollock is a groundfish prevalent in the North Atlantic. It's mild in flavor, flaky in texture, and incredibly versatile, making it a very popular candidate for food processing. Due to it's similarity to Cod and Haddock, many states don't regulate recreational fishing for them in hopes that anglers would target Pollock instead. In the state of Massachusetts there's a 19" size limit with no limit to how many you can keep. In today's video we went out in early January on a mission to locate these Pollock, but were surprised to find Environmental Police and Sharks waiting for us!

I am here for this. Keep up the shorts but its time to get to know you. You are a talented storyteller - embrace it in all formats - no need to be 'presenter' or A Bourdain. Just do you
Yeah but the inconvenience of of texting some guy from UA-cam to be told when he has fish is probably not worth it for most people.
@danaparks8812 theres fresh seafood all over in florida

I know, thanks!
I just like to know things here and abroad. Why not?
Are there good guides in that area for pollock?
I hate getting checked at the dock…so stressful. Even when I’m trying my best to do everything right I feel like there is always something they find wrong. And I’m always begging for my life…I’m glad they usually understand
Why do you beg for your life lol 😂
@@mattburke9554 because the fish and game officers can really make your life hell if they want to
What it really is is fisherman harassment, it only seems legal because we were taught to believe in the uniform ! It's also rights violations they say it's safety but it's really to take your MONEY.
@@huckfin1100 nah i ain’t even mad about it. I get the point of conversation and safety rules. There are just too many complications. I wish they’d simply the regs and make them understand instead of making them harder to comply with even when you want to.
@@-justin-4077 they protect the us goof fishermen from poachers
The way this guy edits his videos is just addicting to watch. Kinda feels like I’m watching a tv show
Filet-o-fish is actually made with Alaskan Pollock, not Atlantic Pollock. Alaskan Pollock is more closely related to Atlantic Cod and has similar mild tasting, lean, white flesh. Atlantic Pollock on the other hand has slightly stronger tasting, slightly darker, oilier flesh.
Because our "pollock" are actually coalfish.
@tonynicoletti8161 as a european i was just about to say what you just did, It can be so confusing with the names of fish in different places. -I do my best to learn them all by their scientific name just to make it easier xD
I was gonna make a similar comment, I figured I'd let it be since they were the same species but I didn't realise Atlantic "Pollock" were actually coalfish.
Atlantic Pollock-Polalachius pollachius is just called pollock around UK. Pollachius virens is known as Coalfish or Saithe .
They are definitely not the same species, Pollock have a longer lower Jaw, and taste slightly lighter, Coley has a strong flavour and darker coloured flesh. Fresh pollock from a bigger fish, 7lb + is well worth eating, the small ones tend towards wateriness and I don't bother with them. Shark ! Porbeagle ? You don't need expensive jigs to fish for Pollock, just lead and a string of White Cod feathers ( fish 3). We used to make our pirks (jigs) from scrap chrome tube filled with lead, no frills just cut off at 45° top and bottom drilled and split rings, treble on the bottom with an orange florescent (road tape) teaser.
I like this kind of commercial fishing theres something special about using a rod and reel vs a net or whatever
Those arent Pollock, they are Coalfish. Pollock and Coalfish can easily be told apart by the Pollock’s distinct Brown colouration and notched lateral line. Coalfish are phenomenal eating btw, and here in Norway they are extremely common along the entire coastline
They are pollock in the US and coalfish in Europe.
@@HaNsWiDjAjA there actually 2 different fish in the same family
The lateral line is curved on the pollock and straight on the coalfish also pollocks has bigger eyes an the bottom lip protrudes more an the pollock is golden brown above the lateral where the coalfish is more dark green but as I say they are the same family and regularly get mixed up
These are pollocks, if you are from the USA.
They are catching "pollachius virens", known as coal fish in Europe, but known as pollock in the USA.
The fish we in Europe know as pollock is "pollachius pollachius" and it´s called european pollock in the USA.
@@lindwurm5976 call it a coal fish and eliminate any confusion, americans love to do things differently.
@@anton2417sounds good mr contrarian. call it what it’s called and there is no problems.
Here is Norway i also fish for big pollack/coal fish. I fish with 2+ hooks and we always catch like 6+kg fishes. Such a fun fish to catch, especially if their big. Once had 2 6kg and one 5kg on at the same time. So much fun!
ok but the gopro stabilization is ridiculously impressive
Hey man, I’ve been watching your TikTok’s and UA-cam shorts for a while now, and I just checked out your UA-cam channel. I love the way you edit these.
"We need to be quick, or the sharks will get them!" Has 2 fish by the boat, takes his sweet ass time with it.... "OH my God. I got sharked!" Well, yeah, no shit Sherlock! Great video all around, but that part of it seemed either staged or just poor form.
When the wake up is 230am your brain kind of turns to mush when you’re fishing that 4th hour
@@Tackle2thePeople Fair enough, and we'll put!
Those are Coalfish. Nicer than pollock for me.
Hi, I can understand that@@Lien6887 Hi, I can understand that. As a child going fishing with my dad, the old boys down the harbour did not call most species by their correct name. i.e. pollock, whiting, coley were just similar looking fish that were put under the umbrella of "whiting". I think in those days they were just more interested in eating it rather than what it was really called. We dont get any of the skates in our water's, or very rarely, but the 5 common species of rays were just called "skate".
Coal fish are called pollock in the because they are actually a pollock, they are in the genus of. Pollochius. Coal fish are One of the 2 species in North Atlantic actually.
*in the U.S.
Removed my comment from last time, figured out what's at play here eventually. Went on fishbase and saw that P. pollachius isn't native to US waters, so for them it's no big loss to call the one Pollachius species they got, P. virens, "pollock". For us that have both pollachius species, it seems silly to name them both the same thing, so the most common way to go about it in English speaking countries is to call P. pollachius "pollack" and P. virens "coalfish" or "saithe". So my original comment saying they refer to both species as "pollock" in the US was wrong. There also seems to be a difference between pollock and pollack. Pollock is the typical US spelling and refers to saithe, and pollack is the typical European spelling and refers to lythe. Turns out there is sense to it after all haha.

What an awesome video and idea of selling the fish directly to customers! Are you planning to sell fish in other countries? I live in Canada. When I drive down to visit, it would be great to buy some fish from you.
So Strange how mutch suggar you Guys over there consume

When I was much younger my father didn’t buy our fish from a store or supermarket. He bought it FRESH from a guy here on Long Island - Bob the Fishman - who usually caught his fish earlier that morning, or no later than the day before; which he then kept iced…
Hello Cameron
Lol
“Do you have a Gatorade? Like, what color?” 😂 Throw that shit out bro. #Coffee
Yeah, it's 200 feet to the bottom, but the fish aren't on the bottom. Watching you drop that lure, I figured 50-75 feet.
But they're big fish, so I wouldn't have expected you to just yank them up in seconds. Especially with them fighting all the way!
Get a water proof binder copy of all licences that password phone will get the wrong cop mad.

Hello fishing type of people sorry can’t say your name right but I’m from Australia and I don’t know if we have been planned to but even if you do want to get down here one point you should have really good fishing pebble 10 kg. Are these Pollock or Coalfish or what species ... Thanks

Yor right ive accidentally eaten them, yes - I was walking on the street, I yawned, and before I knew what was going on, I'd eaten a pollock😂, - why have titles that are total pollocks? Why not use pollocks in the title. the videos are good and the titles will stop me from watching 😢
Here is a recipe for a delicious norwegian dish🇳🇴🇳🇴. boil bay leaf salt and pollock. Put it on a plate together with freshly boiled potato and carrots. Then have sour cream and cranberry jam on the side. you can also fry bacon to go with this dish if desired🐟🥔🥓

@NuMetalHead.V Same here.
When he was dropping the fish steaks into the soup, were they de-scaled?
Out at Sea you expect Sharks, as soon as you said about losing tackle that was my first thought BUT!, When you're docked and the SHARKS PULL UP next to you that's the worst they try any & every option to catch You😢
