He kept saying he wasn’t the best of players. Let me tell you, I watched Utd live many times and even in that great team he was the best player I’ve ever seen. Football isn’t just about how many step overs you can do. I’m his prime Roy controlled everything on the pitch. He was constantly moving team mates into the right place. He hardly ever lost the ball and always moved the ball forward. He was a joy to watch.

Roy plays down how good he actually was. That Champions League semi final 2nd leg against Juventus in Turin in 1999 was epic. Juventus 2 - 0 ahead after 10 mins & I thought it was game over but when he pulled it back scoring that header to make it 2 - 1, that's when he took the game by the balls. Juventus had Edgar Davids known as The Pitbull but Roy was a lion that night & was determined they were going to win of which they did & he got a yellow card that cost him playing in the final. Love watching him as a pundit nowadays, just tells it straight. Great to see him relaxed and humble, absolute legend.
The Juve midfield had both Davids and Zidane that match...!!! This has got to be one of the best interviews ever for an ex/current pro athlete. I think the reason why so many people resonate with Roy Keane is he represents all the qualities and values we see in ourselves or have been taught from a young age. Forget his football success for a moment, this man represents hard work, loyalty, discipline, integrity, honesty and commitment. All the characteristics you would want in a partner, son/daughter, best friend etc. He transcended Man United and the way professional sport and football was viewed in this country. Amazing listening at the end where Roy says he didn’t miss playing at all once he’d retired. Shows he gave everything he had during his career and had nothing left to give. Ex players with regrets tend to be the ones who didn’t quite commit their all
phenomenal person, phenomenal player, phenomenal interview, I guess what I'm saying is that this is a phenomenal 37 minute interview that everyone should take the time to watch, these are just not the attitudes/virtues to take in the sporting arena but for life in general
Roy is being very modest about his ability. He wasn't George Best but he was an excellent footballer with superb technique. Almost never had a bad touch or a misplaced pass.
I was obsessed with football stats when I was growing up and he was in his prime. I can remember that there were a good few seasons in a row when he was routinely in the top 5 in the PL for passing accuracy. He also was a 10+ goals a year player early in Nottingham but changed his role later on.
@@TerriblyNice_Not I was the same mate, he was my favourite player His passing accuracy was phenomenal, especially when you take into account he is looking to play it forward He was noted as being one of the greatest passers to the forwards feet, even rooney said he was the best at it. He perfected the weight and timing of the pass which looked simple I guess Roy was brilliant at the simple stuff and was very consistent. Definitely could be relied on for goals if his teammates struggled and as you say, he scored enough early on when he was more of a box to box player Brilliant player
To be so consistent in his simple passing and picking out players to progess up the pitch is an unbelievable talent in itself. Goes to show that drive and hunger can often outweigh natural talent.
Just watched this and it's amazing how Keane is so good at acceptance. Accepting that he had to work hard at 9/10 to get to England, acceptance of his weaknesses, his mistakes and his technical ability as a footballer and acceptance that it was over. Clearly, he doesn't delude himself but at the same time, he knew that his strength was his will to win. However, I would say personally that the defensive side of his game was up there with any elite player, brilliant at timing tackles and good distribution to other teammates when he won balls back.
Always love an interview with Roy but this is especially good so Tommy deserves a big clap for this he's a sound man himself it's good to see him do well considering some of the current shit we have to endure he's genuinely a pleasure
Roy Keane is bar none the most intelligent, funny and thoughtful sports personality on media today. He says more things in fewer words than most people on television.
Yesterday I stopped by Ireland in my sailboat on my way out into the big world. I popped into Tommy Tiernan who was doing a show while Roy was playing a game at Old Trafford. That was yesterday! Now I sit and write my obituary! Time flies so live as much as you can, Now! Thank you both for the wonderful entertainment you gave me on my way!
Tommy did really well here with someone who can be quite difficult to get anything out of. Tommy seemed off the cuff, no notes in front of him etc. Great interview.
Great talk tommy. What a great person to talk to.roy is a fantastic person. Was a fantastic player .I won't call it a interview. That sounds too official. I will call it a chat .a talk .as you both seemed so comfortable chatting. Great chat .God bless ye both ❤❤❤❤
He is a master class of mental wellness. He doesn’t overthink like I imagine Tommy does. He takes things as they are, is thankful and learns from it and moves on to the next. I can’t imagine Roy on his deathbed saying he regrets XYZ. He learns and moves on. Very practical brain.
Not only would he make into the greatest Manchester United 11 of all time, he would be everyone’s captain 8 days a week. An incredible footballer for United and Ireland. He has never been replaced.
Remember seeing him on the victory bus going through Deansgate back in '99, everyone cheering him for his efforts on the run up to that final. Happy memory
I saw Tommy Tiernan live at the Edinburgh fringe a couple of years ago..he was brilliant.....described himself as an Aldi Roy Keane 😂...spot on...he had a wee bit more hair back then ...Roy,s smile when talking about his dogs shows was priceless
After the interview finished, i just said "brilliant" out loud. Surely that's what anyone needs to hear about their work. Come on, it was brilliant lads.
I think it was a good interview because Tommy was more prepped than he was. He tried the “we’re soul mates”, “I’m not that into your career” and finally “I’be tried blowing smoke up your arse, but I’m clearly getting nowhere”. And it became a relaxed chat. Still didn’t get anywhere! Roy Keane is too grounded, to self aware and knows exactly what he wants to tell you. For another really good interview with him, check out the Gary Neville interview on Garys’ Sky Sport show.
Roy is one of the most impressive humans I've ever seen and I'm not a football fan - he rings true no matter how he is tested. Smart, sef aware, Mature, Self-regulated, great values, loyal, and with his ego firmly under control.Tommy was so busy hiding how prepped he was that he missed asking Roy how he is so well adjusted/ has he had therapy? He has learned to show a little mercy to himself I think/hope. I'm glad he does not try to manage/lead any organisation - his core value is as a very clear opinion leader/ mentor /attitude adjuster. Interesting watch.
"I wasn´t as good as people made me out" Nonsense - you were better. One of the best players I have ever seen at doing the "simple stuff". Which is actually really hard and not simple at all. Legend.
I led Roy Keane and his teams out of the tunnel onto the pitch on two different occasions . 1994 World Cup at Giants Stadium, NJ were Ireland beat Italy 1-0 and in 2003 at Giants Stadium Manchester United vs Juventus were Man U went on to win 4-1 were I also got to sit at the end of the bench. How lucky can one guy be? I am a huge fan of Roy and Man U. and those moments are simply unforgettable.
A complete central midfielder. I loved watching Roy play. I love how humble he is, I’d like a pint with him 🍺 Such a closed book, no emotion shown. Now this is what a captain looks and talks like ♥️
Pure bred Ulster man? Good for you. What's that got to do with anything? Ah you're hinting you're a prod who likes a southerner. Keane would rip your throat out
@@mageeknailmahs669 Bear in mind that the format of the show is that Tommy doesn't know who any of the guests are going to be before the interview. So he doesn't get to prepare like a normal interviewer would.

The anti-Glenn Whelan?
To be so consistent in his simple passing and picking out players to progess up the pitch is an unbelievable talent in itself. Goes to show that drive and hunger can often outweigh natural talent.
We loved having Roy at Sunderland, hopefully in future he will comeback and continue our journey. Brilliant times
He had great technical ability. He never gave the ball away!
Spot on, and you'd still hear him praising Irwin's defensive prowess and playing down his own!
Always love an interview with Roy but this is especially good so Tommy deserves a big clap for this he's a sound man himself it's good to see him do well considering some of the current shit we have to endure he's genuinely a pleasure
As a toon fan I can't give this man enough respect. My life is based on his mentality. Absolute baller.
Roy Keane is bar none the most intelligent, funny and thoughtful sports personality on media today. He says more things in fewer words than most people on television.
Tommy can't quite get his around the fact that Roy Keane is an ordinary bloke at heart.
How can you not like the fella . Professional, honest , loyal, not materialistic and mentally hard as nails. What more do you want !!
Could listen to Roy Keane all day
Yesterday I stopped by Ireland in my sailboat on my way out into the big world.
Great chat .God bless ye both ❤❤❤❤
If you had 11 Roy Keanes in your team, You wouldn’t lose many matches! #Legend 🔴⚪️⚫️

11 midfield players wouldn't win many matches 😊
As long as they all didn’t get sent off at the same time.
@@doordealsdriver2910 If you fined him £1,000 a goal, he'd be a better GK than De Gea. 😂😂
No bull with roy straight up guy 👌
He is a master class of mental wellness. He doesn’t overthink like I imagine Tommy does. He takes things as they are, is thankful and learns from it and moves on to the next. I can’t imagine Roy on his deathbed saying he regrets XYZ. He learns and moves on. Very practical brain.
Roy is very modest,he is one of the best modern midfielders ever. He was a machine.
Not only would he make into the greatest Manchester United 11 of all time, he would be everyone’s captain 8 days a week.
An incredible footballer for United and Ireland. He has never been replaced.
My God, what an interview!!! Inspiring, emotional and every other feeling you could evoke. Brilliant by both!!
Best interview I have ever watched. Especially with this living legend!
After the interview finished, i just said "brilliant" out loud. Surely that's what anyone needs to hear about their work. Come on, it was brilliant lads.
REALLY it was shocking 🤦♀️
David honestly mate that was awful I was expecting him to ask Roy what his favourite colour was it was terrible
@@JOE-dt2kr it was great!
The whole point of this show is that he doesn't know the guests until they walk in so it's unprepped as he asks random questions
"I wasn´t as good as people made me out" Nonsense - you were better. One of the best players I have ever seen at doing the "simple stuff". Which is actually really hard and not simple at all. Legend.
It wasn’t that he just did the simple stuff, it’s that he made everything look simplex that’s the sign of a great player
@@stephenreddin Truely.
Like many have already said. I too could listen to him all day. Just a brilliant no nonsense guy! 💯
Tommy Tiernan and Roy Keane ... what an excellent combination. Thanks for posting this!
Keano is the legend of legends!
As a Liverpool fan, he was an incredible player.
I think it was a great interview. He's 💯 cool calm and collected
Now that is s show worth the watching.
How can you not love Roy Keane.
Roy Keane is the definition of a mans man. Top bloke 👊
Love Roy Keane. Just class
A complete central midfielder. I loved watching Roy play. I love how humble he is, I’d like a pint with him 🍺
Such a closed book, no emotion shown. Now this is what a captain looks and talks like ♥️
The best RK interview you will ever see
Brilliant interview with a legend.
2nd time I’ve watched this interview and it just has to be said Roy Keane is a great man
Would luv too meet Roy Keane I looked up too him as a kid growing up as a player and as a pundit and Man Family man total respect from me aswell🤝
I'm pure bred ulster man die hard United supporter and Keane will always be one of my favourite united players it's that hunger he had to win
Pure bred Ulster man? Good for you. What's that got to do with anything? Ah you're hinting you're a prod who likes a southerner. Keane would rip your throat out
🤣🤣🤣Roy on bout the dogs picking up the vibes was class an he's not wrong! Brilliant
Walking and chocolate my two favourites😊great stuff he's just so entertaining brilliant interview
Good man Roy, not tying to be somebody he's not, and not putting anyone up on a pedestal.
As a Liverpool fan Roy would be high on my list of dinner guests. He seems a genuinely decent fella who knows his own mind.
What a class interview, 2 masters of their crafts.
Tommy Tiernan isn't a very good interviewer to be honest. This was a very clunky conversation. Seen much better interviews with Roy than this.
@@mageeknailmahs669 Bear in mind that the format of the show is that Tommy doesn't know who any of the guests are going to be before the interview. So he doesn't get to prepare like a normal interviewer would.
@@fuzzylogiceire Fair enough, I wasn't aware of the format. Seemed a little strange and off-kilter.
@@mageeknailmahs669 makes it funny as fuck when it's someone famous that tommy doesn't know
Great interview, didnt realize what an nice guy Roy was!
This is a great interview: even the set up makes it intimidating and it's like a therapy session which Keane handles well. Interesting to hear him talk about his family etc.
I tried watching this on the rte player and it crashed 10 times lol. Cheers for posting here 👍
He's one of the best midfielders of his generation
Of ALL generations
@@iRRichiee Lol, if only. I can name loads of better midfielders than Keane across several generations.
@@duhusker4383 come of if mate, only ones you can say are truly better are the likes of Iniesta and such and that's not 'loads'
Keane is a legend of the game - keeps everything simple, no grey areas in anything
