Bottling Honey

  • This is how I bottle honey in the glass/ cork bottles. I use the same procedures to weigh every bottle. For the plastic bottles, there is an inner seal in each lid that will seal the opening when the cap is placeed on the first time. I will then place a heat-shrink band around the top. I always put more in the bottles than the weight states (usually between .1 and .5 ounces over).
    The beeswax I use is 100% pure beeswax. Beeswax can vary in color, ranging from almost white (which is mainly cap wax) to deep yellow (which is colored from melting down older frames or any brood frames). Having a darker color does not mean it is 'less pure'. It is merely stained, like turmeric will do to a counter top or skin.
    The background sounds were recorded outside, so the fly you hear was not inside . :-)

    I am so thankful for this information on how to seal my bottles.
    I just harvested my first batch of honey.
    God bless you and your family, God bless your business.

      I had a lot of great feedback with people who got these! Some didn't want to eat the honey because they said it looked 'to pretty' :) Have fun!

    Would it be possible to somehow maybe place balers twine around the cork before dipping to utilize it to open the seal?

      I never did that but would think it's possible. Play around with an empty one to see what works best.

    I cant find the video where you show how to remove the wax. I went to the country of Georgia, near Russia last year and purchased honey sealed in a clay honey pot. I'm wanting to remove the wax without harming anything.

      If you mean removing the wax from the bottles, i haven't made a video for that. If the kind like mine, you can run a toothpick around the rim where the cork meets the bottle, to break the wax seal. Then gently twist the cork out.
      If you want bees wax completely removed from something (depending on what it is) you can use a plastic scraper to remove most of it, then slowly pour very hot water over it. Don't do this in your sink! The heat melts the wax. There are other ways to melt wax, like placing on a lined pan and in oven on lowest setting, hair dryer, etc. Just depends on item. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for the video. Does this make the closure air tight?

      If done courtly it will. Small air bubbles can easily get trapped when dipping and open into pin holes later. I use a tooth pick or pin to pop them while it's still warm and put a drop of wax over it. The final coat should smooth it out. Thanks for watching!

    Can I use plastic bottle instead a glass bottle? It doesn't affect the preservation of the honey?

      Yes, you can use plastic. I have several sizes and shapes of plastic bottles as well. They all have 'self seals' inside the caps which makes them a quick 'fill and seal' convenience. If harvested correctly, honey doesn't go bad.

    hi :)
    i was wondering why it's important to sea it with wax. Can't we just sell it without the seal?

    • @QueenBee1755
      @QueenBee1755  4 роки тому +1

      You do not have to seal it with wax.
      One reason I do is so if the bottle tips over, a cork may pop out without the wax helping to hold it on.
      Another reason is aesthetics. It just looks neater and more 'professional'.
      Also, once it's bottled and sealed, you know nothing has been in it until the buyer opens it.

    how do you open it

    • @QueenBee1755
      @QueenBee1755  Рік тому

      You can run a knife, fork, toothpick, etc. around the rim of the jar which will break the wax seal, then slowly pull on the cork while giving a slight twist to it.
