How to check if Honey is Pure.
    - Water Test: Place a spoonful of honey in a glass of water. Pure honey will generally dissolve slowly and settle at the bottom. If the honey disperses quickly or floats, it might be diluted.
    - Thumb Test: Put a small amount of honey on your thumb. If it spills or spreads quickly, it might be adulterated. Pure honey should stay intact and not run off.
    - Heat Test: Place a small amount of honey in a pan and heat it. Pure honey will caramelize and not produce foam. Adulterated honey may bubble and foam.
    - Paper Test: Place a drop of honey on a piece of paper. Pure honey should not seep through the paper. If it does, it could be diluted.

Most of those are just tests for moisture content. Pure honey can be 18-22% moisture content, depending on environmental conditions when the honey was produced. My 21% honey that I pulled from my own hives would fail most of those tests... Videos like this result in me having to refund money to my customers that purchased perfectly natural raw, unfiltered wildflower honey, but saw a video on UA-cam that convinced them we sold them fake honey. Happens every year. Thank you so much..

@Cecilia Cole Unfortunately, there's not. The rice syrup that's used to cut Chinese honey is almost impossible to test for. Labs have developed a test that looks for specific enzymes. Best option is to not buy honey that's imported. China ships the fake honey to various countries to hide the country of origin. Unless you're in China, avoid any imported honey.

I am a beekeeper and I can tell you that some of these test will not help you distinguish between pure and none pure honey. To start, honey acts very different depending on the moisture content inside. Honey with a moisture content of 18% would fail some of these test like the thumb test and he air in jar test. It is common for pure bees honey to have around 18% moisture depending on where it was harvested. Warm honey would also fail the thumb test and air in jar test as honey consistency changes with temperature.

I read that the procedure to fake honey is perfected so well that the only way to tell if it's real is to test it in a lab .
I bought raw unfiltered honey in north Carolina that I trusted and it tasted great .
Now I have retired to my wife's county in the Philippines . I haven't seen a single honey bee here yet in 4 years . But they sell "honey" on the streets etc . I bought some and it gave me acne
      Honey does not do that.
Comparing the taste to honey I bought that came from usa you could tell the difference . I just don't buy "honey" from the Philippines.

I grew up as a beekeeper's son (& hence, assistant) and am somewhat amused by these 'tests'. Honey is a variable substance, changing with temperature, depending heavily on floral source etc. It is also very hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air if allowed, thereby changing its viscosity. The rising air bubble test for one is nonesense. Try that with 100% pure granulated aloe honey for example.

  • @vonigis
    @vonigis 3 роки тому +221

Sorry. This is just wrong. You can not confirm the honey is real by those tests you described. Although you can tell by those, whether the honey is a good one or not. But this is also a matter of subjective taste prefferance.
Honeys are different, depending on the season, different by year even, also, depending on altitude, flora of the region, beekeeper's technique..
For me, the best honey is the honey from the beehive that was not fed with sugar at the time of honey harvest and secondly, the wax compartments should be closed already by bees. This means honey is matured, water is evaporated or so to say honey is ready for the storage for the whole year or more.
So you basically have to know the beekeeper well and to trust him.
Still it is actually great that with this video you address the huge problem of faking honey, all around the world.
    Thank you. 🙏

Nice ideas but: you did not show the counter example. Also: Different honey have a different amount of water inside. Some really very good honey can be very light runny. It will not stick to your bread and flow down. Like acacia honey. Larch honey has quickly crystals like normal sugar as it contains little water. Bee die in winter if they have mostly this honey. I had bees by myself. When you feed them sugar for the winter then they add also things from the flowers and it tastes totally like honey. So sorry up to now I have not found something to proof if a honey is pure. Yet as I was working with bees I can quickly say because of the smell if it is a good honey or not. Normally people don‘t even notice a difference while I do.

If the water content is low, especially honey produced in dry areas, then the honey is thick. Viscosity is very influential on the force of gravity. Likewise, honey with a lot of water content in tropical countries, for example, differs in its adhesion and density with thicker honey. 🙏

The best way to know if your honey is pure is if your honey sticks with you (through thick and thin ); if your honey goes deep down with you to the bottom; if your honey goes with you all the way even up in smoke; and finally when life is turned upside down your honey shows your the right way up slowly.

Really Rohan? The word of the Lord is sweeter than honey. By keeping Christmas and Easter, you are worshipping the dragon Satan. Why not worship God the Father in the passover, Pentecost and feast of tabernacles that he said? Christmas and Easter are sins in Jeremiah 10:1-5, Revelation 11:10, Galatians 4:8-10, Ezekiel 8:16, Deuteronomy 18:10, etc. Repent and stop observing times (witchcraft) if you truly love Jesus our Lord.

Claims about adulterated honey were tested in Australia several years back, and found almost no evidence of adulterated honey in shops. So while this is widely believed, it isn't necessarily true.
Choice Magazine prompted the investigation but the national regulator disputed the claims and maintains that the test used is not sufficiently accurate to be valid. (cant recall what it was offhand).
Shooting from the hip, it looks to me that these 'tests' in the video prove nothing. Not least because this can only work if you already have samples of known 'pure' honey, and 'adulterated honey', and that appears to not be the case. Note that exactly what 'adulterated honey' means, is not known anyway; it could mean many different things, so it is not as if there are only two possible samples.

I bought 4 small glasses of Spanish honey. The first glas was soft and easy to use on your bred. Very nice in my cop of tea also. But the other 3 glasses has crystallized and is of corse hard. The seller told me to warm it up and stir around so it becomes more soft again. 1 time should be enough they said. Mine is with lavender and one with orange flower. They do taste awsome they really do, but it is some work when you open a new glass. The first glas I bought was soft. They are very expensive. 10 dollars for one little glas.🥴

    • @Natureflowers
      @Natureflowers  13 годин тому +1

It sounds like you're enjoying some really unique and flavorful honey! The crystallization process is completely natural and actually shows that the honey is pure and free of additives. The lavender and orange flower flavors must add such an interesting twist to your tea and bread. It’s a bit of a hassle when the honey hardens, but the method the seller suggested (warming it up and stirring) should definitely help bring it back to a smooth consistency.
Since it's quite an investment at $10 per jar, it’s understandable you want to make the most of it! One trick to prevent crystallization from happening too fast is to store the honey in a warm, dry place. The warmer temperature helps keep it in a liquid form longer. But if it does crystallize again, just pop it in a warm water bath for a little while.
It sounds like the flavors make it worth the extra work, though!

Yeah not so much. You can dehydrate honey and syrup by leaving it open in air conditioning for a short time. Beekeepers can also feed sugar or HFCS to their bees and collect it also.
The only and best sure way is to get your honey local from an honest beekeeper that only produces it the right way and at a fair price. There's far more small beeks around than you probably realize. Most not commercial sellers but have some that they let go of every season to help pay for the habit of keeping bees.

Because there is a known issue with cough & cold type syrups being adulterated with things like propylene glycol type chemicals (i.e. antifreeze, which is sweet and dogs like it too). I know where our honey came from and I put it in jars straight from the honeycombs myself and it would fail all of these tests since it seems like the water content in it is a bit on the high side.

It seems you don't really know the meaning of 'Testing'.
It is actually a comparative analysis.
And to do so you need 1) a threshold benchmark, and 2) a Control. The Threshold Benchmarks are pre-established parameters and you have defined them (cohesiveness like a drop on the nail, ability to burn like a fuel, etc.).
    But where is the Control?
In this case, it should have been a fake sample of honey that clearly fails on the Threshold Benchmarks.
Without that, the entire video becomes simply a subjective viewpoint, a personal opinion of yours that may or may not be true under different conditions

Pure honey, when placed on a piece of fresh bread, will make it hard and rough on the tongue in just a few minutes. The bread under the honey still feels dry. If the honey contains glucose-fructose syrup as an additive, the bread does not feel altered and is still soft. This is especially evident on fresh bread. In addition, chemical pencils do not leave a mark on the fingers if we smeared them with real honey. I'm talking about a special kind of pencils that have artificial graphite, which dissolves in water and releases a deep purple color. I don't know what these pencils are called in English, but they are often used by builders and technicians.
