    And you’ve done this without smashing up anything out of a frustration.

    Regarding the power steering hose: over here in my town we have a shop that specializes in making hydraulic lines, e.g. heavy equipment fluid lines, ac lines, ps lines, etc. I'm sure you have one in your town too.

    • @Rose.Of.Hizaki
      @Rose.Of.Hizaki Рік тому +9

      I second this -- I have heard of Rob Dahm doing the same thing in a recent video. He mentioned that the manufacturer charged some $300 or more for some hoses - I think they were fuel or oil hoses.
      He didnt like the price so he hit up a shop that specialises in hydraulic lines and they built him one with all the fittings that he needed/wanted for $100-150.
      At least i think it was Rob Dahm.

    • @macgroober1396
      @macgroober1396 Рік тому +5

      @@Rose.Of.Hizaki I found the shop (Hosefast, in Garland, TX USA) in my town after I went to replace some power steering hoses on my old '92 Honda Accord. NLA from Honda, only leaving crappy, obviously-not-stock-looking aftermarket alternatives. They were able to take my original fittings and graft them to new fittings to be pressed onto new hose. They looked factory after they were done.

    • @uilleamross3443
      @uilleamross3443 Рік тому +5

      I had the tranny cooler lines on my E65 start to leak due to corrosion at the hard line/rubber line junctions. At $500 a set to replace, I just replaced the set of lines using stainless-braid lines and appropriate AN fittings like I've used in my race/rally cars. May not be stock and true to the design; but cost less than half and a better, more reliable solution.

    • @justjustjoo
      @justjustjoo Рік тому +6

      If you use one of these hydraulic shops, the rubber will last twice as long. And the hose will probably cost a fraction of the price the crappy OE part would.

    When I deal with obsolete leaking power steering or brake hoses, I take them to a local supplier here that deals with high pressure hydraulic hoses and fittings for heavy industry like forklifts, farm machinery, elevators, etc and they can rebuild them often with better components than the OE can provide (anyone who has had experience with GM or Chrysler hose crimps can attest). I'm certain there would be something like that in your area, Sreten. If you're unsure just ask someone who works on Forklifts where they get their hoses rebuilt.

    You are the MOZART of BMW engine rebuilt! I was checking on this episode at least couple of times everyday. I was stressed and worried just Like I am going into final exam at school. Can’t thank you enough for the thrill, suspense and quality content you are putting out for BMW fans specifically and for auto fans in general. I have some sort of attachment to this alpine. You made the epic happy ending of a good movie.

    The amount of work, the amount of super quality work is out of the scale with this project. It's how the mistakes are fixed, not them happening which is unavoidable working with such complicated stuff. Thanks another time for these videos, I'm amazed this alpina hasn't broken you down because as a viewer it almost broke me.

    Great centre arm rest. Once one becomes used to having one, it’s a requirement in all one’s cars.

    Congratulations on getting the Alpina back to working order, Streten! I can't wait for this project to be completed so you can move on to the other tasks that need your attention.

    I agree that the E65/66 may have been the last BMW true to the marque. No turbos, no AWD and not that bad to work on if you have the right attitude and access to an ISTA scanner. Very pleased to see that you have the B7 up and running properly. Sounds sweet and solid, the way the BMW gods intended. Great job, excellent recovery from a relatively simple mistake, and well-documented. Have enjoyed every minute. Now on to sorting the suspension! BTW, I have an '08 E65 750i and I love it! May very well be the best car (of the 50+ I've owned) I've ever had.

    Hi Sreten, I have my opinion about the choices that Alpina made with this model: almost every manufacturer in in that period of making cars (2000-2008) changed the thermostats to higher values (from 85-90 to 102-105 degrees) and put 5w30 oil for emissions purposes. Higher the temp in the cylinders = cleaner burn, less CO2(but they didn't know back then about NoX or not yet required to be measured) and lower viscosity meant less friction = less CO2.
    Keep it up! Really nice work.

      Was thinking the same. Noticed almost all the benzine naturally aspirated engines , from that era , running a lot hotter than needed. Has to be the bullshit emissions reqs.
