I have a 2010 biturbo d3, just love the chassis, one of the best handling cars ive ever driven, engine is great the torque makes this car surprisingly quick,, very good on long runs, very underrated cars
I have a 2007 D3 with low mileage. BMW dealers do their best but don't seem to have a clue about these cars - buy one and join a forum as they really are helpful. Most parts are 320 M Sport so they are quite cheap to buy. I would not hesitate to get another. I used to change my cars regularly but I can't ever see me selling it. Nothing in my opinion comes close for the cash. Good ones seem to be going up in value so your not going to loose much (if anything) in depreciation either. Great review 👍.
Loved this balanced and measured assessment of the D3 2.0 I recently had the 3.0 Alpina D3 touring and it felt big and heavy which of course it is. This looks more up my street.
I’ve got a 2010 E90 D3 Bi Turbo, so very similar but slightly different power delivery. These cars are superb. The chassis set up makes it a great road car. Enough power, lovely balance as not too heavy at the front because it’s only a 4cyl, great steering and nicely judged suspension. Only a few bespoke Alpina parts, the rest is various BMW bits. Biggest tips I can give is do the parts research yourself because garages struggle. I buy the service parts in advance and I do believe in preventative maintenance. Also, if you get the Bi Turbo it has the N47 engine, so fresh oil frequently is a good idea to care for the timing chain. Always use Pilot Sport or Super-sport Michelin tyres to get the best out of it. Anyway great cars!
@@BananasFroggy Excellent choice! I still have mine. They need a bit of love to keep on top of the maintenance. The Alpina register forums are really useful if you have any queries. You will love it!
think I’ve seen a couple of these and thought they were just modified diesel BM’s. Which technically is just what they are. Also don’t remember these type of videos on the channel but they are pretty good.
Great balanced review. Am currently looking to buy one of these, but they seem to have a disappointing level of extras. Do they even have Bluetooth phone connection?
These are best era of bmw cars and alpina made them even better but they can be made even better with few cheapish tweaks handling wise going for M3 front trailing arms and lower wishbones transforms front end grip way more solid and grip that virtually never runs out, M3 ARB worth considering as well. But whole boring diesel engine syndrome can be changed by remap these things can go to stupid level of power 280bhp which is also why so many have disappeared as over 250bhp does cause a lot of stress on pistons and ideally need to be removed and ceramic coated to protect do that and 280bhp is reliable. Although not more expensive mod that is missed is LSD in the diff, can only be done by birds annoyingly have a monopoly in BMW LSD from quaife but fit that and you have an M3 like machine with fuel economy to get you from north to south of the country in one go just sad that being Euro 4 diesel it’s on hit list to get killed off by the government that’s why prices are so low atm and probably never go up in all honesty till there’s next to none around and their 40 years old and ULEZ exempt lol
Agree with you and they would have been nice to have LSD. Some D3 are however ULEZ free which is odd as all other diesel BMWs of the era including the car this is based on 320d are not ULEZ compliant.
Not necessarily a problem, but it would be worth checking the VIN number to be sure, maybe even asking Alpina to cross reference it if they have a contact page
Great review, I am very surprised about the price that you quoted though, was recently looking at the higher end of E90/92 engines (admittedly petrol) and they went anywhere from £3,000 to 8'000 I will definitely have to give this a look. Do you know if this is the same case with the B3's price?
The B3's seem more expensive, mostly because they are newer and higher spec models. But yeah the prices I mentioned on these are the norm at the moment, so value is fantastic as long as you don't mind higher miles

Some of them may not have, or at least a primitive version of it at the time

There is a D3 for sale on Pistonheads in black almost identical to that one but the badge on the horn says BMW not Alpina. Should i be concerned?

I love this car, but my only problam with it is that main has only 2 cupholders and they are in the back
Same problem in my Golf R32 funnily enough
Great video! Resting your hand on the gear shifter like that is bad for the synchros, though.
I m Johannes mfolori from sauth Africa can I bay cars from UK to sauth Africa
No
You should test drive a E90 335D. Still great economy about 7l/100km but much much more charming and strong Engine
Had the 335i and it combusted from an oil leak. I miss it everyday 😢
nice
I know you don't like manuals but you look damn good driving one. Also you are missing 2 chains. Also your b face is gone 🙃
Haha 😂 thanks lil baba 😘
Poor mans sportscar 🤷🏻♂️💩 But it’s my opinion so..
Before someone starts arguing I own E90 Alpina B3 darkgreen 💪🏼
Nothin wrong with that
