I have been riding a motorcycle for the past 11 years. I always try to follow the traffic rules to the best of my abilities so that I can be in a safe space and not bother anyone around me. I bought a sports bike a few years back and became a part of a group that taught me a lot that I am missing. Yes, our motorcycle culture needs responsible people in it. Past 11 years I got only 1 ticket for my PUC. Be safe everyone.
The conclusion of be human at the end seems less, but honestly "simplest things are the hardest to do" ,but it's true, just be nice and kind to one another!
For yrs, struggled to find a group without folks who brag about how much they spent on accessories, or just want to race/rev. So 6am every Sat, I ride out with my wife on pillion for 3-4 hrs. We talk about how the week was, enjoy the sunshine, and so on. Life is good. That's our culture. Whenever you're in B'lore, pls join! 😊

Your podcast not only makes me believe in the good side of people but also helps me better understand and trust my husband's motorcycling enthusiasm. Over my 35 years of riding on Indian roads, I find that truckers not only have a very tough job, more importantly they are the most considerate of all the drivers out there, so I've always made it a point not to hustle them and also to wave an acknowledgement or thanks when they give you space or let you overtake or warn you when not to overtake on blind turns, etc. The local, rural sub 3 ton Tata 407 and other smaller ones are at the other end of that spectrum. Those guys can and will try to kill you with absolute disregard, change lanes and take U turns and block your overtakes half way thru or block you in or swear to never ever look at their mirror. So it's important to distinguish and be kind to the former and be very wary of the latter kind, of course you can be kind to everybody to set a good example or atmosphere. Also that a double tap on the horn has a much better effect than multiple long single taps in grabbing attention. In fact long press on the horn usually has a hostile effect. Waving thanks or other pleasant gestures directed at the invisible drivers, even thru mirrors usually always sends a good vibe. Because on long highway trips, you may encounter the same vehicle somewhere later on the same road and there comes a sense of friendly familiarity rather than, there's that asshole again.
I'm with you on the truckers being considerate. There have been times when I'm stuck behind a bus/truck and if I want to overtake, the first thing I try to see is if the driver gives any hand signal. If says wait, I pull back, wait for a clearing from him. Once he does the had motion of go ahead, I overtake. But yes, do make sure to give him a wave or a thumbs up. It makes their day :)
I'm a MBBS passout currently doing internship at AIIMS And What Shumi said is absolutely on point The first thing to do in a crash is to check scene safety next is to check breathing and call for help Removing a helmet after crash is not something to be done at all if you are not familiar or know the basics of First aid
First few minutes itself Shumi nailed the image that bikers have even in their own family (organ donors, dangerous mode of transport, solo riding looks sad). I'm a late bloomer in terms of getting my license and getting into motorcycles. But I got pulled in hard immediately and now this is my best escape from the hectic work life. Thankfully instead of the algorithm recommending me "Vertical Videos" of people being "bosses", I got Strell, older Shumi and Karthik (PD and Zig), so I keep with calm riding styles with immersion as the priority. Big thanks to you guys for being the primary guides since I started 2 years ago. Also I wish riders here accepted all bikes instead of shooing certain models and their rider for the difference in taste. In the end it's all about that feeling right
There is this upcoming channel @AnuragSalgaonkar . Great Guy, follows all rules in Mumbai. while others violate. Wears full gear any time and everytime on a motorcycle. I also used to watch strell.
What a brilliant conversation! These are the kinds of conversations we should be encouraging. Even when I started motorcycling, I was very taken up by social media and I thought it was cool to do what everyone else was doing. Only after deeply reflecting and realising the amounts of risk I was putting myself and everybody else on the road did I realise that group rides aren’t my thing. I’d rather ride safely, and responsibly, than chase adrenaline at the risk of my life.
Sometimes solo rides makes us feel a lot safer especially when you're surrounded by some idiots in the form of friends. I did only one group ride as of now and the rest were solo. It was fun for me because I got the chance to talk to myself and also be considerate and patient while riding. Been doing this for a year and I swear at no point I felt boring. Motorcycling is all about experiences.
Big riding groups should stop expecting/ taking for granted and not demand that other vehicles have to move away for them to overtake... Senselesy flashing auxiliary power lights on them is not going to help anybody
I know it's subjective, but this is one of the most important videos you guys have made till now. Everyone, motorcyclist or not, everyone needs to watch this, and the learnings can be implemented in our day to day. "How you do anything is how you'd do everything" May this community keep growing.
What a beautiful simple conversation. I remember taking an oath not to honk unless there is a life threatening situation after the second wave completely comes from this school of thought. I have seen seniors and other citizens thanking me with a simple gesture for just allowing them to cross the road. A long days riding to and from the office just vanishes instantly. Its that powerful.
Yesterday I did a round trip of around 320 km on my activa. Yes I've my limitations being on an activa on a super smooth highway i.e, sticking to the left lane at 60-70 kmph and giving way to faster vehicles(almost all vehicles are faster than me expect trucks) and yes I did it without compromising on my safety. Surely I don't have any riding gear as I'm jobless for few months hence my pocket isn't able to purchase me all the riding gear but I trusted my riding skills and my instinct such that I did no stupid things which might had put me at risk. This is more important than having or not having electronic aids on a motorcycle as a debate. Yes ABS should be the standard one and traction control if power > 40 bhp. For me motorcycling is all about stress relieving as well as meeting new people. Riding a motorcycle in full riding gear on a highway feels like heaven for me. One thing to note is motorcycling is a selfish hobby and not everyone in your family are gonna support it and that's fine. It's your job to convince them to follow your passion.
This whole conversation reminded me of this. Back in 2016, I took my bike on a long road trip. Starting from Delhi to Dwarka, then covered west coastal roads till last point, then came back up to the eastern corner via coastal roads again. I did it during monsoon period and because of that, I've seen this country in its most beautiful avatar. I only had a good helmet and shoes to protect myself and was driving under 90-100 for most time, only stretching to 90-100 for frequent overtakes if I have to. I didn't had a smartphone so I wasn't assisted with GPS either. All I did during that trip was seeing this country, talking to new people, eating local food, and be there. Once I finished it, I was welcomed by a lot new people, bikers, etc. who wanted me to join their groups. I never joined any group nor did a group trip as I used to say (and still believe) that I'm not a biker. I wanted to travel this country and that bike was my cheapest way to do so, and I clocked 11,000 KMs in about 60 days. After that, I had done a similar trip in a tempo traveller and have been doing similar trips on bus, truck, train and now car. Traveling is my core agenda, setting records on vehicle is not. And the benefit coming out of it is that I have never met a single accident.
Shumi, I know you said you don't like to organize but I have a suggestion. You talked about similar minded ppl who are passionate about bikes (Anand,Zen,Zubin,Kunal,Josh). If you bring these ppl together to one of the episodes of ThisConnect to talk about motorcycles in general, that would be a great experience for the viewers. Just give it a thought. I know the usual style of ThisConnect is you two guys talking to each other but think about these ppl and you guys talking together in the finale episode of this season. That would be a banger of an episode and a great way to end the season.

I'm a 23 years old, working and some months back I purchased my first motorcycle, Meteor 350. I totally agree with the biker culture you pointed out, sadly I was also influenced by it, I used to think drag races are cool, red lining the Enfields is way to go and unfortunately I did it on my Meteor as well. But later on youtube somehow recommended your videos and alongwith some other podcasts which I watched, I had lots of realizations about the way I'm riding is wrong and how it's affecting my motorcycle and other people who are driving as well. It's hard to find videos that teach you something good. I've still lots of things to learn but I'm happy that I'm atleast out of that culture and became more empathetic towards other folks. Keep posting such podcasts and contents, your experiences teaches me alot of things.
It feels like if there were to be motorinc member groups in Pune / Mumbai / Banglore etc. Alot of us would have similarish mentalities and have a great time during weekend meetups or rides.
Skoda have introduced a membership you can join even if you don't have a skoda and as far as I have heard about it they organize events for their members as well .
Most of them would be really good individuals, but I don't think a group of 30 year old men (avg.) who think they know better than everyone about riding is going to work out. The more peculiar & cautious you get, the more difficult it is to enjoy a social company. Best case scenario would be leave your bikes at home, chat for a while about stuff & go back.
Man I didn't even realised it was 1 hour 6 mins long. Great Conversation as Usual and Great Video. 1. The knowledge of Shumi is just on another level and, in my opinion, unmatched. I know his Motorcycle Database is as big as Wikipedia but his knowledge on other subjects and ability to acknowledge the different prespective of same topic is admirable. I like his realistic approach to things, being honest about his opinions and opinions which are as striking as Point Blank Shots. My favourite dialogue of his is " You don't have to agree with me eventhough I think I am right". 2. I think even if you are a teenager, you can understand what is stupid and what is right. I used 'Don't Recommend', 'Not Intrested' and 'Report' more than anyone and I used those options 90% on a "BIKER CONTENT" than anything less. By that I started going for more better and real Motorcycle content made me discover Shumi, Karthik, Sagar , Rishaad and many great motorcyclist out there. My UA-cam, which subscribed 30 something BIKE Channels in past now have 5 Great Channels that give me Great Motorcycle Insights and Motorinc is at P1. 3. I can relate to Shumi's story of people being nice to him for a great motorcyclist. Once I was parked on side of road checking who called me. I saw a Car driver ( I think it was an Hyundai Eon ) who was going to take U turn. Its a 2 lane road and from my limited knowledge of driving I had then, I knew he would need to Reverse if I don't move. The only thing I did was I moved my Scooter just a small distance forward and went back to my phone. That man stopped beside me after completing the U-Turn and said "Thank You" and It made my day. So Being nice on road makes you feel better. 4. I do same thing as Karthik when somebody do something stupid infront of me, I think It's somebody close to me. If that''s a gentleman at his 40s and 50s, I automatically thinks it is somebody like my Father or if it is a teen boy doing some mistake ( not stupidity ) I automatically thinks it's my brother. It calms my emotions and canfocus. I would rather focus on my Driving and Riding rather than spending my emotions on them. 5. I like the nice touch of Shumi having Motorinc logo on his Watch. 6. I think Motorinc should start merch with Shumi Quotes. I would buy the ones with these " It's not like that there are such dumb humans who don't even learn from their own mistakes." and " I don't think human beings are dumb. I think everybody has a brain. Some people just refuse to use it and that's a Problem."
This is the most important "This Connect" you have made yet. . Again Shumi is my spirit animal. I so match with the things he said ... . I am a Motorcyclist that rides KTM DUKE 390... Yes, my next bike is going to be even more powerful... But I will consciously & actively avoid causing any frustration to another biker or a driver.
I used to live in the interior of Saki Naka up until a few months ago. To go to work, I had to first cross the main road on which there would be heavy traffic going from Andheri to BKC. I did a test where I forcefully pushed my bonnet into the oncoming traffic when I found an opportunity vs. putting down my window and showing this gesture 🤌🏼 to allow me to pass. I was stunned to find 8 times out of 10, even BEST buses and autos would wait for me to pass if I'm patient.
My dad has been a lifelong driver had a small stint as trucker and he faced worst treatment as a trucker, people hurl abuses for no good reason.. or just bcoz they occupy a bigger part of road.. his experience has made me retrospect my feelings on the road and made me a more compassionate rider.. I have also seen motorcyclist getting better and courteous of other vehicles.. high hopes for us..

From a personal standpoint, being a silent member of the motorcycling fraternity for the past decade, I am so grateful to you guys for getting together and putting time into this - this most important video for motorcyclists. Shumi and Karthi are one of the few motorcyclists I hugely respect, idolize and try to learn from. I have been following them through the various media outlets they have graced with their presence and expertise since my incipient days as a motorcyclist. Thank you for drawing the line between Motorcyclist and "Biker". I have had numerous debates with my fellow riders about the distinction between the two. I love the intent and content delivered by MotorInc and this is one of the best episode you guys have produced. This really hits home, because when my father taught me to ride his Splendour, he was adamant that I get the learner's permit first and a helmet, plus he made sure I use the indicators while turning and respect the signal. Now I'm much more ethical rider than him. Anyway, there is a class of youth, the one which cannot be bothered to watch a channel like yours or who can comprehend English, can really use this kind of message to improve their riding habits, what are your thoughts on bringing this message to that youth?
I’ve been driving for almost a decade now, and had always considered myself a car guy. I rode gear less mopeds to commute for the major part of my life, and never had I even tried riding a motorcycle with gears. A year ago, I picked up my first bike, and a month ago, sold that and upgraded to something better. In total, I’ve been a motorcyclist for about a little over a year now. No doubt, I am absolutely loving it. Did a few solo trips, and rides with friends. The reason I am mentioning this is because, this podcast answered so many of my questions, gave me such lovely insights and I just gained a lot of guidance as to how I should enjoy motorcycling responsibly. Thank you guys, loved every minute of this!
Needed to hear this today. I ride a std 350 and never ride rashly. Today I uncharacteristically made a few swerves to beat the afternoon traffic, startling a few passing cars. I'd been feeling bad about it the whole day and somehow hearing you guys talk empathetically about it makes me feel better and want to be better.
I am 21 years old and planning to start long rides next year after purchasing a proper bike and gear. I prefer cruising and don't enjoy high speeds. The only thing that concerns me is that I'm not very social and don't have a group of friends interested in long rides. The thing I am unsure about is I'll be riding solo, and in case of any mishap, whether there will be anyone who knows what to do and also whether I will enjoy solo riding, but I'll have to try it first to find out. And this episode has helped me to understand that even if I am a solo rider how I can ensure my own safety while respecting others space. Truly Motorinc as a channel is taking steps towards creating a better riding and driving culture. Thank You.
Its a simple thing brother. Even I was in your phase 1 year ago. Just go for a 200 km ride solo and note down your observations. Try to replicate this multiple times. If you feel comfortable and safe, you'll probably have a great time riding solo. What I noticed while in a group is I have to take multiple stops be it fuel or food or selfies. I'm not that kind of a person hence I choose solo. Even if you are planning for a group, try to make maximum of 4 people. It will make your experience significantly better as you'll have loads of fun together without compromising on safety. I wish you great motorcycling. BTW what bikes have you shortlisted?

Currently I haven't taken any test drives but I always wanted to buy Honda Hness but recently scrambler 400x has caught my eye 😅 I hope test drives will make it clear but you might have got an idea about my taste. Btw which bike do you own? And if anything you would like to suggest in the budget of scrambler 400x?
@@pranitg6036 I currently don't have any bike but even I'm planning for Hness CB350. Even 400X is on my radar but the price jump from 2.6L to 3.3L is little bit difficult for my pocket. And the maintainence is a tiny bit expensive in case of 400X. CB350 is built to last as its Honda and offers better mileage. Take both test rides and if possible rent them for few hundred kms and come to conclusions as showroom test rides aren't the correct way. First of all know what is the cruising speed you'e gonna travel at. If its under 100 kmph then Highness will serve the purpose fine without compromising on fuel efficiency. Pick scrambler if your travel includes mild off roading. In that case scrambler makes you comfortable. Even the cruising speeds of scrambler is similar to Highness i.e, 90-110 kmph but the mileage will be slightly less. Happy mile munching.

Beautifully discussed brother. I’m 20 and got my license 2 years back, I’m the guy who always encourages everyone to wear seatbelt even in third row, without fastening belt I refuse to move the vehicle and trust me it makes me feel secure as a driver to drive when they’re safe. It has prevented many small mishaps or road rages just because I was confident because my family was just extra safe and I avoided those small small mishaps. Road safety is nothing more than some value education lecture I believe. Also I would try to be a little bit more patient on road and be more forgiving. I always make sure I enter and leave certain areas quietly on my stock exhaust sports bike. One day a father was walking his kid in the building and as he sees me, he closes his kids ears with his hands. I saw that and made me realise what he must have heard before. I even pulled in the clutch to be extra quiet while passing them.
This conversation was required. This needs to be put out there for the people who are about to get in or have just gotten in the motorcycle world. It's really sad to see that safe , patient and considerate riding is not at all cared for. I truly wish people become better and motorcyclists get a better image as a general. Its such a good feeling when you see such like minded and sane motorcyclists exist among us. I'm happy to say that I'm doing my bit for the community by following etiquettes discussed here in the video.
I just passed my French driving licence. This first aid topic are basic chapter mandated in our driving theory test called "Code de la route" Only when we pass this test we can be present in the practical driving exam. for a motorcycle/Car crash the basic answer for us is don't move the persons until emergency services arrive at the scene & unless they are not breathing/having a cardiac arrest/or fire, drowning in the river do not attempt to free or rescue them. after this only experience I've learnt the reasons not to move people who have just got into an accident.
I started watching this 6:30 in the morning and I just can't stop watching this video, I can totally relate with these things from what I have experienced: That X-Pulse motorcyclist having far more riding experience than big bikers in the group, early departure/timely departure problems, unintimidating and smooth overtakes are important, first aid knowledge is lacking, speeding too much because you got the autobahn, brag about machines than the meaningful discussions. I really enjoy watching your meaningful discussions, Thank you!
I have been following your content for past few months and I am obsessed with your work. Of course, I know you both from prior stints, but this channel is like no other. In a sea of sensational, bombastic and biased automotive content, you are a breath of fresh air, a voice of reason. I have already seen this video but I am back here again just to listen to your opinions. And this specific segment shows how principled Shumi is. Not taking anything away from Karthik, but I love how Shumi puts his foot down on what he believes in. Huge respect mate, I wish more people think like you. I belong to this minority and I have never been more proud of it.
Such an important topic , very well covered as usual. I’ve been to MTM and IBW - and the different just could not be starker. As with everything in life, I believe a “growth mindset” is the most critical element. Actively disconfirming beliefs with data and inputs from others experiences has helped me improve tremendously as a motorcyclist. Today’s community solutions (general office/apartment whatsApp groups , manufacturer driven groups etc) - all hinge around a common something - office space, apartment or bike of choice. We need a way for the common “something” to match on to be the core motorcycling beliefs/“frequency”.
So many nuanced points for driving/riding in general! Would love to see those snippets turned into shorts and spread widely so motorists around the globe can take something from this wisdom, nay common sense. Thank you so much!

Ive seen many groups which boast about their machines, accessories etc rather than discussing how the ride was, how to ride and being empathetic. People talking without knowing which bike they own might surprisingly give far better results... definitely worth watching the entire video...

As a beginner in this space, I really had no idea about these things and how to go about it. Since I don't know anyone in my circle who likes to ride(and I am from a small city) so I had no point of reference and watching those high speed videos on highways always made me feel that maybe I am not made for it since it looked damn too dangerous. Finally seeing Shumi and Kartikeya Sir speaking about it, it is very encouraging for guys like me who like the idea of touring on bike to learn and grow . And what kartikeya sir said about slowing down when there's intersection coming , I thought maybe experienced riders wouldn't have this problem and they would have some magical talent to speed through it now it feels like they are just playing with their luck. I'll say, i've been lucky with people I've met in real life and social media around motorcycles. Who taught me about safety, basic things about bikes and safety gear. I contribute most of my values around bikes to you guys. It's been maybe 9 months or maybe more since i started watching you guys and been a regular viewer. Yes I have met people who judge a person by the bike they ride and take unnecessary risk on public roads. In the end I say, I have been blessed that i counter you first when i just started riding and more great people like Sagar and Papa Saar. Thank you for the good value that you guys gave me.
As soon as I saw the title, I knew KTM was gonna be mentioned somewhere. I feel like the UA-cam algorithm thing is on point and that it promotes bad or ignorant riding to a certain extent, because anyone who gets recommended this video will already be a decent motorcyclist and follow a lot of the ideals mentioned by y'all. And on the flip side, anyone who doesn't get the video in recommendations was anyway not gonna watch it even though they are the ones who need the most help. Kendrick said "Pride's gonna be the death of you and me" and it can't be truer for ignorant and rash bikers who don't wanna listen. Thank you once again for the videos you all make. A lot of newer motorcyclists needed this.

This was brilliant. I try to be as considerate, patient and respectful as possible on the road. But there are times when frustration takes over (Bangalore traffic isn't kind) and I indulge in behaviour that I myself find appalling. Whenever I feel that way, I will come back to this video. Since I was a kid, whenever I felt down, I'd take a ride on my motorcycle. 90% of the time, I'd come back in a good mood and with a solution to my problems. I've probably tried every riding tip Shumi has mentioned. I won't stop motorcycling even if the culture is fading. However, I'm saving for my first car because of safety concerns. Riding gear is heavy and inconvenient to carry around, and a recent Fortnine video has made me question its safety. I've been searching for a solution to this problem for months, but without any luck. It looks like I might have to give up something that's been so important to me since childhood.
29:45 Exactly! My brother and I used to do this back when we started too in 2000. Especially since we were ground floor dwellers, we completely understood the other side of this aspect. It's so important to wheel the bike out to the road.

Im so glad that I had access to this video at the very beginning of my riding journey explaining me the severity of the actions I take as a motorcyclist. I have had a major bike crash in my life because of which I was in bed rest for a month and couldn’t ride for 6 months and was not mentally in good space to get on a bike for a ride. This was 7 years ago and that was the last time I did over speeding and was a dick to the people around me. We don’t need top speed or crazy torque to do a good long ride. Like you guys said, we just need to be caring, loving and nurturing human beings. Thank you for this episode. ♥️
Finished this podcast and I instantly want to type: “It feels like listening to poetry while gaining knowledge” I have been riding for 10+ years now, have gone on only two group rides so far, only because of this issue. It’s rare to find a group that is sensible and mature.
I somehow always tried to stay out of groups, I thought may be because I am introvert or I don't want to speed like others on a public road, I like the freedom I have in terms of speed and taking breaks as I need. I understand it comes back to topic of culture... Every now and then, I do meet people with whom I think may I can tour together. But it's been a rarity. I have ridden around the world over the years, and my thoughts haven't changed. @motorinc Really glad, that someone is having this conversation in a public platform.

This episode and the other one with small bikes and single motor garages made a huge impact on me, inspiring me to buy a basic commuter for future purchases after listening to that small bike podcast i started to look differently at my splendor and other small bikes and there has been a major change in my thought process, good job Shumi sir and Kartikeya sir
Being a good human being (rider) is so underrated. My father always used to say "your respect is in your own hands". Today's bikers need to understand over speeding, doing stunts on roads, over revving engines and riding while wearing shorts and slippers is just attracting bad name to the community. You want to do outrageous stuff, go book a track. Spare the drama for roads.
The most basic yet important piece of content that every person who is into motorcycling should watch. And i must say that, i am new into motorcycling and i follow most of the things mentioned in this podcast. In my life i have been impatient and impulsive but when i am riding a bike i become the most patient and considerate person to the best of my abilities. One more habit that i have developed is whenever i am on road and some vehicle honks at me, immediately i slow down and signal them to pass and give a thumps up when they cross me. If the person behind you is honking to overtake, just be considerate and let them pass.
The thanking part is so so underrated. Reminds me of South Africa where once you allow passing they give a hazard light flashing and you give a pass light acknowledging their thanks and yes it does change the way you drive you are less aggressive and more considerate
What a fantastic discussion! Been riding for 21 years and have ridden quite a bit across the country, all types of bikes. Never did group rides unless they were with friends I grew up with. For precisely the same reasons - I don't identify with what today or even earlier constituted as "bikers" or "biking culture". Never been to IBW or any of that other stuff, just doesn't interest me at all. And whatever I see of it online is pure cringe. But I do relate to the problem at hand. I just hope this reaches the right audience!
Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed it! On the topic of 'motorcyclists v/s cops', I feel like the main issue is that most of us know about the existence of MotoGP, and the fact that they're covered in different 'clothes'. The cops see these clothes on the road, and go like "If the people I have sometimes seen on TV wearing such clothes are going so fast, these guys must be doing the same too." The problem is that there is very little awareness of riding gear aside from helmet. Like people will tell you to buy a helmet, but what they are not aware of is the fact that not many injuries occur there. Sure, you'll get a concussion, whiplash, but atleast you'll be functioning in a few weeks. However, if you are only wearing a helmet, and nothing else, your chances of being in the hospital for a long time increases dramatically. Sure, you won't get head injuries, but dude, is that worth having a fractured arm and broken legs? What Shumi sir said is very true, we don't do enough to make a good impression. The people going 200 on public roads and filming that might be doing that for fun, and might be the best rider in the world off-camera, but what you're showing is you being reckless, and there are enough people doing that on camera, to correlate biker=bad, and that's the problem. And underage teens like me get easily swayed by that for the most part, and think, "That's what biking is," and we try to do that and be 'cool', which increases the hatred towards bikers, and the good motorcyclists are not noticed, who actually ride well and follow the rules. My friend tells me how he pulls wheelies on his father's RX100. Sure, I've learned how to ride at the age of 13 too, but I don't plan on riding much till I get my license, although I do go for a few rides here and there. This is a brilliant conversation. More than giving me a very good picture of the motorcyclist culture. I will definitely utilize your tips like ensuring weight on front wheel by not accelerating in intersection and closing throttle while passing other people. It's sad to see such content is very rare to see. Sir, I do have a couple doubts I observed while riding a banglore traffic. 1. When you wait patiently in traffic intersection but the driver behind you is honking and you can see him cursing in ur rear mirror. How to do optimally deal with this ? 2. When you see someone riding a smaller motorcycle in the highway trying to catchup to you and you are scared that he will rear end you in future (usually these people don't overtake even if you slow and request them ) 3. When you park your bike in public parking (road side or malls), how can you try to minimize people squeezing a bike near you and scratching it. Thanks in advance
Hullo Abhijit, it’s just the simple things - 1 - if you can move aside and let them through, do so. Else point to the light to make it clear that it’s not green. 2 - stay clear - either by being much further ahead or behind. Usually these kind of riders are taking many risks - and it’s best to give yourself lot of space from them. 3 - find a corner or a spot that’s furthest away? That’s a tough one. 😁
I started riding when I was only 16 years old. Lucky for me, Instagram was not that popular and reckless riding content was scarce back then. The influencer that I first started to follow was Strell in Malayalam and he has influenced me a lot. I fell in love with his style of riding, fast yet controlled and predictable, aggressive yet very calculated. And he has always given due respect to riding gears. I looked at his style and went like 'I want to be that fast and that safe'. It was later that I found Shumi on PD and started looking up to your content. PD explained taught me so much about riding. Strell made me want to ride fast and safe, Shumi taught me how to go about it. All the kids causing havoc on roads, I believe it's a problem that stems from who and what kind of riding they look upto. I am thankful that I got to look up to the right influencers. ❤
I recently shifted to Germany, and I have been comparing and noticing things about the way they ride. So true about the Autobhan thing; even if they ride fast, you know they are in control. Learning about first aid and emergencies is a must before getting your driving license, which makes sense. I love these topics, guys; keep them coming. Knowing that people like you both can create a great community of future riders is a start in the right direction.
I’m an Industrial Designer by profession and have recently moved back to India. This podcast is super refreshing. I’ve been watching motorcycle review videos to catch up on the Industry in India and the quality of videos has tremendously increased but the unfortunate part was that the videos might be a bit misleading for younger riders since most of the videos are cool shots of the journalists popping wheelies on highways and public roads. I’m in no ways implying that they need to take the responsibility to spread awareness about safety and etiquettes. But there is not much else out there for reference. So this video from you was absolutely needed. Very well articulated. Clearly this has bothered you for too long and you’ve given it serious thought. Also, love that - Finally someone who understands the value of riding on racetracks and controlled environments. I’ve been an amateur racer on both track and dirt and the first time I did that was the day I stopped riding on the street. But I hope what you’re trying to convey catches on and we see a change in mentality. I strongly believe this country needs more racetracks/controlled riding environments. Look forward to some more cool videos !
A bang on discussion...a very appropriate one during an era of utter nuisance riding/driving. I truly appreciate the topic of discussion and your effort to educate few at least. Manners gone, etiquette gone, patience gone, compassion gone....attitude, arrogance, incivility on the highest high and I guess nothing else is left on road these days.

I remember Shumi, speaking about his RD 350 ride while a bunch of RX 100 chaps tried racing him back in his powerdrift days. I was probably a very beginner rider at that time, but the advise I still use it to this day, "if someone's trying to go faster than you on a public road, step aside, remember you don't need to beat that person while causing a safety hazard." I had been riding solo for quite a while now, and I must say I thoroughly enjoy that. I haven't owned any bigger machines, but the fun I get out of my Apache 160 4v is just top notch. I have ridden bigger bikes, but the apache puts a big smile on my face every time I go out for a quick ride. Ultimately it's about the fun of riding rather than how big is the machine.

Had learnt riding a motorcycle on my baba’s super splendour when I was pretty young. Well since then, I always wanted to have a motorbike. I do a simple visual designing job, and have yet not been able to afford a motorcycle. Manifesting still. Took a test ride of the Triumph Scrambler 400x couple of days back. And as Shumi said in the scrambler video, i loved it. I listen to you guys almost all the time, while I am at work. We are a group of 3 friends including me, the other two have bikes, and i am their pillion partner on weekend rides. And all we talk about at our chai adda is you guys and what was the latest podcast about. And Shumi, really big fan would be an undertone, I would say i look upto you not just because you love motorcycles but because you are honest and straight as an arrow and that speaks volumes about the person you are. Someday i wish to meet you. 😇

I hv been riding for more than 20 years now, a lot of times police hv labelled disciplined riders with total safety kit as trying to do some stunts and nuisance creators. I can’t thank enough for this line of discussion. It’s exactly what goes through my mind either when I’m riding or driving. I used to ride until 2017 and again started from last yr with gap of 5yrs in middle due to certain issues, it is real. The 2 wheeler landscape has changed dramatically over this 5 yrs and had gone so bad I only have to ride either early morning or late night for solo rides. I hope this comes as a simple education for people riding these days. Also, it may also need to be discussed what lane maintaining means and which lane is the slow lane and which is the fast lane. Also, this is a very very humble request. If people who are running the riding schools, can also invest and look to do something in the eastern part of the country too.
Great podcast. Initially I thought it's boring topic but as it progressed after 10min, then I knew where it's heading. Got lots of points that I often forget on the road. Kudos to come up with such an important topic that other channels don't even think of discussing. The podcast is long lol but worth it as we take lots of good things. I rarely comment on any video but it deserves the acknowledgement. Ride safe and respect the other person on the road.
The Idea of being courteous and polite on a motorcycle should be inherent. I have driven with my father, brother relatives and have seen them rage, but I guess I had a good luck of coming online during the early days of youtube and watching people like shumi back in powerdrift days to realise the importance of carrying the weight of being a good motorcyclist rather than being just a random biker out on a commute. To this day (and I am very young), whenever I hop on my motorcycle I always return smiling because something or someone on the way either gave me a smile or thanked me for not being an ass or for being patient with them on the road and that is one thing apart from riding that I dearly love. This was a great episode.

Probably one of the most important podcast topic you guys have published. I'll admit that I've been part of the problem on occasions with not respecting speed limits on open roads( never oversped on villages, because that is plain stupid). And fighting with cops is just asking for trouble. Listen to their suggestions, wear your gear and represent the motorcyclists well comrades.
My father says:- a car overtakes us wrongly/ impatiently (in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand)don’t be impatient or critical to them. “MAYBE HIS MOTHER IS UNWELL AT HOME.” that statement always keeps me calm.😊 whenever I get impatient, with reckless drivers here in Greater Himalayas.

I have been riding a motorcycle for the past 11 years. I always try to follow the traffic rules to the best of my abilities so that I can be in a safe space and not bother anyone around me. I bought a sports bike a few years back and became a part of a group that taught me a lot that I am missing. Yes, our motorcycle culture needs responsible people in it. Past 11 years I got only 1 ticket for my PUC. Be safe everyone.

For yrs, struggled to find a group without folks who brag about how much they spent on accessories, or just want to race/rev. So 6am every Sat, I ride out with my wife on pillion for 3-4 hrs. We talk about how the week was, enjoy the sunshine, and so on. Life is good. That's our culture. Whenever you're in B'lore, pls join! 😊

Over my 35 years of riding on Indian roads, I find that truckers not only have a very tough job, more importantly they are the most considerate of all the drivers out there, so I've always made it a point not to hustle them and also to wave an acknowledgement or thanks when they give you space or let you overtake or warn you when not to overtake on blind turns, etc. The local, rural sub 3 ton Tata 407 and other smaller ones are at the other end of that spectrum. Those guys can and will try to kill you with absolute disregard, change lanes and take U turns and block your overtakes half way thru or block you in or swear to never ever look at their mirror. So it's important to distinguish and be kind to the former and be very wary of the latter kind, of course you can be kind to everybody to set a good example or atmosphere. Also that a double tap on the horn has a much better effect than multiple long single taps in grabbing attention. In fact long press on the horn usually has a hostile effect. Waving thanks or other pleasant gestures directed at the invisible drivers, even thru mirrors usually always sends a good vibe. Because on long highway trips, you may encounter the same vehicle somewhere later on the same road and there comes a sense of friendly familiarity rather than, there's that asshole again.

I'm with you on the truckers being considerate. There have been times when I'm stuck behind a bus/truck and if I want to overtake, the first thing I try to see is if the driver gives any hand signal. If says wait, I pull back, wait for a clearing from him. Once he does the had motion of go ahead, I overtake.
But yes, do make sure to give him a wave or a thumbs up. It makes their day :)

The first thing to do in a crash is to check scene safety next is to check breathing and call for help
Removing a helmet after crash is not something to be done at all if you are not familiar or know the basics of First aid

First few minutes itself Shumi nailed the image that bikers have even in their own family (organ donors, dangerous mode of transport, solo riding looks sad). I'm a late bloomer in terms of getting my license and getting into motorcycles. But I got pulled in hard immediately and now this is my best escape from the hectic work life. Thankfully instead of the algorithm recommending me "Vertical Videos" of people being "bosses", I got Strell, older Shumi and Karthik (PD and Zig), so I keep with calm riding styles with immersion as the priority. Big thanks to you guys for being the primary guides since I started 2 years ago. Also I wish riders here accepted all bikes instead of shooing certain models and their rider for the difference in taste. In the end it's all about that feeling right

What a brilliant conversation! These are the kinds of conversations we should be encouraging. Even when I started motorcycling, I was very taken up by social media and I thought it was cool to do what everyone else was doing.
Only after deeply reflecting and realising the amounts of risk I was putting myself and everybody else on the road did I realise that group rides aren’t my thing. I’d rather ride safely, and responsibly, than chase adrenaline at the risk of my life.

Sometimes solo rides makes us feel a lot safer especially when you're surrounded by some idiots in the form of friends. I did only one group ride as of now and the rest were solo. It was fun for me because I got the chance to talk to myself and also be considerate and patient while riding. Been doing this for a year and I swear at no point I felt boring. Motorcycling is all about experiences.
Big riding groups should stop expecting/ taking for granted and not demand that other vehicles have to move away for them to overtake... Senselesy flashing auxiliary power lights on them is not going to help anybody

What a beautiful simple conversation. I remember taking an oath not to honk unless there is a life threatening situation after the second wave completely comes from this school of thought.
I have seen seniors and other citizens thanking me with a simple gesture for just allowing them to cross the road.

Yesterday I did a round trip of around 320 km on my activa. Yes I've my limitations being on an activa on a super smooth highway i.e, sticking to the left lane at 60-70 kmph and giving way to faster vehicles(almost all vehicles are faster than me expect trucks) and yes I did it without compromising on my safety. Surely I don't have any riding gear as I'm jobless for few months hence my pocket isn't able to purchase me all the riding gear but I trusted my riding skills and my instinct such that I did no stupid things which might had put me at risk. This is more important than having or not having electronic aids on a motorcycle as a debate. Yes ABS should be the standard one and traction control if power > 40 bhp.
For me motorcycling is all about stress relieving as well as meeting new people. Riding a motorcycle in full riding gear on a highway feels like heaven for me. One thing to note is motorcycling is a selfish hobby and not everyone in your family are gonna support it and that's fine. It's your job to convince them to follow your passion.

This whole conversation reminded me of this. Back in 2016, I took my bike on a long road trip. Starting from Delhi to Dwarka, then covered west coastal roads till last point, then came back up to the eastern corner via coastal roads again. I did it during monsoon period and because of that, I've seen this country in its most beautiful avatar. I only had a good helmet and shoes to protect myself and was driving under 90-100 for most time, only stretching to 90-100 for frequent overtakes if I have to. I didn't had a smartphone so I wasn't assisted with GPS either. All I did during that trip was seeing this country, talking to new people, eating local food, and be there. Once I finished it, I was welcomed by a lot new people, bikers, etc. who wanted me to join their groups. I never joined any group nor did a group trip as I used to say (and still believe) that I'm not a biker. I wanted to travel this country and that bike was my cheapest way to do so, and I clocked 11,000 KMs in about 60 days. After that, I had done a similar trip in a tempo traveller and have been doing similar trips on bus, truck, train and now car. Traveling is my core agenda, setting records on vehicle is not. And the benefit coming out of it is that I have never met a single accident.

If you bring these ppl together to one of the episodes of ThisConnect to talk about motorcycles in general, that would be a great experience for the viewers. Just give it a thought. I know the usual style of ThisConnect is you two guys talking to each other but think about these ppl and you guys talking together in the finale episode of this season. That would be a banger of an episode and a great way to end the season.

I'm a 23 years old, working and some months back I purchased my first motorcycle, Meteor 350. I totally agree with the biker culture you pointed out, sadly I was also influenced by it, I used to think drag races are cool, red lining the Enfields is way to go and unfortunately I did it on my Meteor as well. But later on youtube somehow recommended your videos and alongwith some other podcasts which I watched, I had lots of realizations about the way I'm riding is wrong and how it's affecting my motorcycle and other people who are driving as well. It's hard to find videos that teach you something good. I've still lots of things to learn but I'm happy that I'm atleast out of that culture and became more empathetic towards other folks. Keep posting such podcasts and contents, your experiences teaches me alot of things.

Skoda have introduced a membership you can join even if you don't have a skoda and as far as I have heard about it they organize events for their members as well .

Most of them would be really good individuals, but I don't think a group of 30 year old men (avg.) who think they know better than everyone about riding is going to work out.
The more peculiar & cautious you get, the more difficult it is to enjoy a social company. Best case scenario would be leave your bikes at home, chat for a while about stuff & go back.

1. The knowledge of Shumi is just on another level and, in my opinion, unmatched. I know his Motorcycle Database is as big as Wikipedia but his knowledge on other subjects and ability to acknowledge the different prespective of same topic is admirable. I like his realistic approach to things, being honest about his opinions and opinions which are as striking as Point Blank Shots. My favourite dialogue of his is " You don't have to agree with me eventhough I think I am right".
2. I think even if you are a teenager, you can understand what is stupid and what is right. I used 'Don't Recommend', 'Not Intrested' and 'Report' more than anyone and I used those options 90% on a "BIKER CONTENT" than anything less. By that I started going for more better and real Motorcycle content made me discover Shumi, Karthik, Sagar , Rishaad and many great motorcyclist out there. My UA-cam, which subscribed 30 something BIKE Channels in past now have 5 Great Channels that give me Great Motorcycle Insights and Motorinc is at P1.
3. I can relate to Shumi's story of people being nice to him for a great motorcyclist. Once I was parked on side of road checking who called me. I saw a Car driver ( I think it was an Hyundai Eon ) who was going to take U turn. Its a 2 lane road and from my limited knowledge of driving I had then, I knew he would need to Reverse if I don't move. The only thing I did was I moved my Scooter just a small distance forward and went back to my phone. That man stopped beside me after completing the U-Turn and said "Thank You" and It made my day. So Being nice on road makes you feel better.
4. I do same thing as Karthik when somebody do something stupid infront of me, I think It's somebody close to me. If that''s a gentleman at his 40s and 50s, I automatically thinks it is somebody like my Father or if it is a teen boy doing some mistake ( not stupidity ) I automatically thinks it's my brother. It calms my emotions and canfocus. I would rather focus on my Driving and Riding rather than spending my emotions on them.
5. I like the nice touch of Shumi having Motorinc logo on his Watch.
6. I think Motorinc should start merch with Shumi Quotes. I would buy the ones with these
" It's not like that there are such dumb humans who don't even learn from their own mistakes." and
" I don't think human beings are dumb. I think everybody has a brain. Some people just refuse to use it and that's a Problem."

I used to live in the interior of Saki Naka up until a few months ago. To go to work, I had to first cross the main road on which there would be heavy traffic going from Andheri to BKC. I did a test where I forcefully pushed my bonnet into the oncoming traffic when I found an opportunity vs. putting down my window and showing this gesture 🤌🏼 to allow me to pass. I was stunned to find 8 times out of 10, even BEST buses and autos would wait for me to pass if I'm patient.

My dad has been a lifelong driver had a small stint as trucker and he faced worst treatment as a trucker, people hurl abuses for no good reason.. or just bcoz they occupy a bigger part of road.. his experience has made me retrospect my feelings on the road and made me a more compassionate rider.. I have also seen motorcyclist getting better and courteous of other vehicles.. high hopes for us..

I love the intent and content delivered by MotorInc and this is one of the best episode you guys have produced. This really hits home, because when my father taught me to ride his Splendour, he was adamant that I get the learner's permit first and a helmet, plus he made sure I use the indicators while turning and respect the signal. Now I'm much more ethical rider than him.
Anyway, there is a class of youth, the one which cannot be bothered to watch a channel like yours or who can comprehend English, can really use this kind of message to improve their riding habits, what are your thoughts on bringing this message to that youth?

I’ve been driving for almost a decade now, and had always considered myself a car guy. I rode gear less mopeds to commute for the major part of my life, and never had I even tried riding a motorcycle with gears. A year ago, I picked up my first bike, and a month ago, sold that and upgraded to something better. In total, I’ve been a motorcyclist for about a little over a year now. No doubt, I am absolutely loving it. Did a few solo trips, and rides with friends. The reason I am mentioning this is because, this podcast answered so many of my questions, gave me such lovely insights and I just gained a lot of guidance as to how I should enjoy motorcycling responsibly. I am 21 years old and planning to start long rides next year after purchasing a proper bike and gear. I prefer cruising and don't enjoy high speeds. The only thing that concerns me is that I'm not very social and don't have a group of friends interested in long rides. The thing I am unsure about is I'll be riding solo, and in case of any mishap, whether there will be anyone who knows what to do and also whether I will enjoy solo riding, but I'll have to try it first to find out. And this episode has helped me to understand that even if I am a solo rider how I can ensure my own safety while respecting others space. Truly Motorinc as a channel is taking steps towards creating a better riding and driving culture. Thank You.

Its a simple thing brother. Even I was in your phase 1 year ago. Just go for a 200 km ride solo and note down your observations. Try to replicate this multiple times. If you feel comfortable and safe, you'll probably have a great time riding solo. What I noticed while in a group is I have to take multiple stops be it fuel or food or selfies. I'm not that kind of a person hence I choose solo. Even if you are planning for a group, try to make maximum of 4 people. It will make your experience significantly better as you'll have loads of fun together without compromising on safety. I wish you great motorcycling. BTW what bikes have you shortlisted?

@@pranitg6036 I currently don't have any bike but even I'm planning for Hness CB350. Even 400X is on my radar but the price jump from 2.6L to 3.3L is little bit difficult for my pocket. And the maintainence is a tiny bit expensive in case of 400X. CB350 is built to last as its Honda and offers better mileage. Take both test rides and if possible rent them for few hundred kms and come to conclusions as showroom test rides aren't the correct way. First of all know what is the cruising speed you'e gonna travel at. If its under 100 kmph then Highness will serve the purpose fine without compromising on fuel efficiency. Pick scrambler if your travel includes mild off roading. In that case scrambler makes you comfortable. Even the cruising speeds of scrambler is similar to Highness i.e, 90-110 kmph but the mileage will be slightly less. Happy mile munching.
As an enthusiast who's yet to get his first motorcycle, listening to Shumi and Karthik is the best decision I've made. Your conversations are not only informative, practical, and will save my life but also a standard that I want to live up to.

Beautifully discussed brother. I’m 20 and got my license 2 years back, I’m the guy who always encourages everyone to wear seatbelt even in third row, without fastening belt I refuse to move the vehicle and trust me it makes me feel secure as a driver to drive when they’re safe. It has prevented many small mishaps or road rages just because I was confident because my family was just extra safe and I avoided those small small mishaps. Road safety is nothing more than some value education lecture I believe. Also I would try to be a little bit more patient on road and be more forgiving. Yes and friends who've used it have told us just how atrocious the riding experience is too!
I always make sure I enter and leave certain areas quietly on my stock exhaust sports bike. One day a father was walking his kid in the building and as he sees me, he closes his kids ears with his hands. I saw that and made me realise what he must have heard before. I even pulled in the clutch to be extra quiet while passing them.

I just passed my French driving licence. This first aid topic are basic chapter mandated in our driving theory test called "Code de la route" Only when we pass this test we can be present in the practical driving exam.
for a motorcycle/Car crash the basic answer for us is don't move the persons until emergency services arrive at the scene & unless they are not breathing/having a cardiac arrest/or fire, drowning in the river do not attempt to free or rescue them.
after this only experience I've learnt the reasons not to move people who have just got into an accident.
I started watching this 6:30 in the morning and I just can't stop watching this video, I can totally relate with these things from what I have experienced: That X-Pulse motorcyclist having far more riding experience than big bikers in the group, early departure/timely departure problems, unintimidating and smooth overtakes are important, first aid knowledge is lacking, speeding too much because you got the autobahn, brag about machines than the meaningful discussions. I really enjoy watching your meaningful discussions, Thank you!

I have been following your content for past few months and I am obsessed with your work. Of course, I know you both from prior stints, but this channel is like no other. In a sea of sensational, bombastic and biased automotive content, you are a breath of fresh air, a voice of reason. I have already seen this video but I am back here again just to listen to your opinions.
And this specific segment shows how principled Shumi is. Not taking anything away from Karthik, but I love how Shumi puts his foot down on what he believes in. Huge respect mate, I wish more people think like you. I belong to this minority and I have never been more proud of it.
Such an important topic , very well covered as usual. I’ve been to MTM and IBW - and the different just could not be starker.
As with everything in life, I believe a “growth mindset” is the most critical element. Actively disconfirming beliefs with data and inputs from others experiences has helped me improve tremendously as a motorcyclist.
Today’s community solutions (general office/apartment whatsApp groups , manufacturer driven groups etc) - all hinge around a common something - office space, apartment or bike of choice. We need a way for the common “something” to match on to be the core motorcycling beliefs/“frequency”.

As a beginner in this space, I really had no idea about these things and how to go about it. Since I don't know anyone in my circle who likes to ride(and I am from a small city) so I had no point of reference and watching those high speed videos on highways always made me feel that maybe I am not made for it since it looked damn too dangerous. Finally seeing Shumi and Kartikeya Sir speaking about it, it is very encouraging for guys like me who like the idea of touring on bike to learn and grow . And what kartikeya sir said about slowing down when there's intersection coming , I thought maybe experienced riders wouldn't have this problem and they would have some magical talent to speed through it now it feels like they are just playing with their luck. I'll say, i've been lucky with people I've met in real life and social media around motorcycles. Who taught me about safety, basic things about bikes and safety gear. I contribute most of my values around bikes to you guys. It's been maybe 9 months or maybe more since i started watching you guys and been a regular viewer. Yes I have met people who judge a person by the bike they ride and take unnecessary risk on public roads. As soon as I saw the title, I knew KTM was gonna be mentioned somewhere. I feel like the UA-cam algorithm thing is on point and that it promotes bad or ignorant riding to a certain extent, because anyone who gets recommended this video will already be a decent motorcyclist and follow a lot of the ideals mentioned by y'all. And on the flip side, anyone who doesn't get the video in recommendations was anyway not gonna watch it even though they are the ones who need the most help.
Kendrick said "Pride's gonna be the death of you and me" and it can't be truer for ignorant and rash bikers who don't wanna listen.

Since I was a kid, whenever I felt down, I'd take a ride on my motorcycle. 90% of the time, I'd come back in a good mood and with a solution to my problems. I've probably tried every riding tip Shumi has mentioned. I won't stop motorcycling even if the culture is fading.
However, I'm saving for my first car because of safety concerns. Riding gear is heavy and inconvenient to carry around, and a recent Fortnine video has made me question its safety. I've been searching for a solution to this problem for months, but without any luck. It looks like I might have to give up something that's been so important to me since childhood.
The idea is you make it better. We make it better together.
29:45 Exactly! My brother and I used to do this back when we started too in 2000. Especially since we were ground floor dwellers, we completely understood the other side of this aspect. It's so important to wheel the bike out to the road.

I have had a major bike crash in my life because of which I was in bed rest for a month and couldn’t ride for 6 months and was not mentally in good space to get on a bike for a ride.
This was 7 years ago and that was the last time I did over speeding and was a dick to the people around me.
We don’t need top speed or crazy torque to do a good long ride. Like you guys said, we just need to be caring, loving and nurturing human beings.

It's really inspiring. You guys do a great job spreading awareness regarding motorcycling, i have watched every podcast and review of yours, and it has taught me a lot about motorcycling. This episode and the other one with small bikes and single motor garages made a huge impact on me, inspiring me to buy a basic commuter for future purchases after listening to that small bike podcast i started to look differently at my splendor and other small bikes and there has been a major change in my thought process, good job Shumi sir and Kartikeya sir

Being a good human being (rider) is so underrated. My father always used to say "your respect is in your own hands". Today's bikers need to understand over speeding, doing stunts on roads, over revving engines and riding while wearing shorts and slippers is just attracting bad name to the community. You want to do outrageous stuff, go book a track. Spare the drama for roads.
The most basic yet important piece of content that every person who is into motorcycling should watch. And i must say that, i am new into motorcycling and i follow most of the things mentioned in this podcast.
In my life i have been impatient and impulsive but when i am riding a bike i become the most patient and considerate person to the best of my abilities.
One more habit that i have developed is whenever i am on road and some vehicle honks at me, immediately i slow down and signal them to pass and give a thumps up when they cross me. If the person behind you is honking to overtake, just be considerate and let them pass.

The thanking part is so so underrated. Reminds me of South Africa where once you allow passing they give a hazard light flashing and you give a pass light acknowledging their thanks and yes it does change the way you drive you are less aggressive and more considerate

What a fantastic discussion! Been riding for 21 years and have ridden quite a bit across the country, all types of bikes.
Never did group rides unless they were with friends I grew up with. For precisely the same reasons - I don't identify with what today or even earlier constituted as "bikers" or "biking culture". Never been to IBW or any of that other stuff, just doesn't interest me at all. And whatever I see of it online is pure cringe.
But I do relate to the problem at hand. I just hope this reaches the right audience!

On the topic of 'motorcyclists v/s cops', I feel like the main issue is that most of us know about the existence of MotoGP, and the fact that they're covered in different 'clothes'. The cops see these clothes on the road, and go like "If the people I have sometimes seen on TV wearing such clothes are going so fast, these guys must be doing the same too."
The problem is that there is very little awareness of riding gear aside from helmet. Like people will tell you to buy a helmet, but what they are not aware of is the fact that not many injuries occur there. Sure, you'll get a concussion, whiplash, but atleast you'll be functioning in a few weeks. However, if you are only wearing a helmet, and nothing else, your chances of being in the hospital for a long time increases dramatically. Sure, you won't get head injuries, but dude, is that worth having a fractured arm and broken legs?
What Shumi sir said is very true, we don't do enough to make a good impression. The people going 200 on public roads and filming that might be doing that for fun, and might be the best rider in the world off-camera, but what you're showing is you being reckless, and there are enough people doing that on camera, to correlate biker=bad, and that's the problem. And underage teens like me get easily swayed by that for the most part, and think, "That's what biking is," and we try to do that and be 'cool', which increases the hatred towards bikers, and the good motorcyclists are not noticed, who actually ride well and follow the rules.
My friend tells me how he pulls wheelies on his father's RX100. Sure, I've learned how to ride at the age of 13 too, but I don't plan on riding much till I get my license, although I do go for a few rides here and there. He's 16, by the way, which just proves the whole point of this video.

This is a brilliant conversation.
More than giving me a very good picture of the motorcyclist culture. I will definitely utilize your tips like ensuring weight on front wheel by not accelerating in intersection and closing throttle while passing other people. It's sad to see such content is very rare to see.
Sir, I do have a couple doubts I observed while riding a banglore traffic.
1. When you wait patiently in traffic intersection but the driver behind you is honking and you can see him cursing in ur rear mirror. How to do optimally deal with this ?
2. When you see someone riding a smaller motorcycle in the highway trying to catchup to you and you are scared that he will rear end you in future (usually these people don't overtake even if you slow and request them )
3. When you park your bike in public parking (road side or malls), how can you try to minimize people squeezing a bike near you and scratching it.

Hullo Abhijit, it’s just the simple things -
1 - if you can move aside and let them through, do so. Else point to the light to make it clear that it’s not green.
2 - stay clear - either by being much further ahead or behind. Usually these kind of riders are taking many risks - and it’s best to give yourself lot of space from them.
3 - find a corner or a spot that’s furthest away? That’s a tough one. 😁

I started riding when I was only 16 years old. Lucky for me, Instagram was not that popular and reckless riding content was scarce back then.
The influencer that I first started to follow was Strell in Malayalam and he has influenced me a lot. I fell in love with his style of riding, fast yet controlled and predictable, aggressive yet very calculated. And he has always given due respect to riding gears. I looked at his style and went like 'I want to be that fast and that safe'.
It was later that I found Shumi on PD and started looking up to your content. PD explained taught me so much about riding. Strell made me want to ride fast and safe, Shumi taught me how to go about it.
All the kids causing havoc on roads, I believe it's a problem that stems from who and what kind of riding they look upto. I am thankful that I got to look up to the right influencers.

I recently shifted to Germany, and I have been comparing and noticing things about the way they ride. So true about the Autobhan thing; even if they ride fast, you know they are in control. Learning about first aid and emergencies is a must before getting your driving license, which makes sense. I love these topics, guys; keep them coming. Knowing that people like you both can create a great community of future riders is a start in the right direction.

I’m an Industrial Designer by profession and have recently moved back to India. This podcast is super refreshing. I’ve been watching motorcycle review videos to catch up on the Industry in India and the quality of videos has tremendously increased but the unfortunate part was that the videos might be a bit misleading for younger riders since most of the videos are cool shots of the journalists popping wheelies on highways and public roads. I’m in no ways implying that they need to take the responsibility to spread awareness about safety and etiquettes. But there is not much else out there for reference. So this video from you was absolutely needed. Very well articulated. Clearly this has bothered you for too long and you’ve given it serious thought.
Also, love that - Finally someone who understands the value of riding on racetracks and controlled environments. I’ve been an amateur racer on both track and dirt and the first time I did that was the day I stopped riding on the street. But I hope what you’re trying to convey catches on and we see a change in mentality. I strongly believe this country needs more racetracks/controlled riding environments.

I remember Shumi, speaking about his RD 350 ride while a bunch of RX 100 chaps tried racing him back in his powerdrift days. I was probably a very beginner rider at that time, but the advise I still use it to this day, "if someone's trying to go faster than you on a public road, step aside, remember you don't need to beat that person while causing a safety hazard." I had been riding solo for quite a while now, and I must say I thoroughly enjoy that. I haven't owned any bigger machines, but the fun I get out of my Apache 160 4v is just top notch. I have ridden bigger bikes, but the apache puts a big smile on my face every time I go out for a quick ride. Ultimately it's about the fun of riding rather than how big is the machine.

This was such a brilliant episode.. I mean.. This needed be said, especially the popularity of bad riding on public roads for short form vertical content. I need to learn Motorcycle First Aid on priority now and I hope that saying thank you, and being patient and considerate on the road becomes mainstream in India.. Had learnt riding a motorcycle on my baba’s super splendour when I was pretty young. Well since then, I always wanted to have a motorbike. I do a simple visual designing job, and have yet not been able to afford a motorcycle. Manifesting still. Took a test ride of the Triumph Scrambler 400x couple of days back. And as Shumi said in the scrambler video, i loved it. I listen to you guys almost all the time, while I am at work. We are a group of 3 friends including me, the other two have bikes, and i am their pillion partner on weekend rides. And all we talk about at our chai adda is you guys and what was the latest podcast about. And Shumi, really big fan would be an undertone, I would say i look upto you not just because you love motorcycles but because you are honest and straight as an arrow and that speaks volumes about the person you are. Someday i wish to meet you.

I hv been riding for more than 20 years now, a lot of times police hv labelled disciplined riders with total safety kit as trying to do some stunts and nuisance creators. I can’t thank enough for this line of discussion. It’s exactly what goes through my mind either when I’m riding or driving.
I used to ride until 2017 and again started from last yr with gap of 5yrs in middle due to certain issues, it is real. The 2 wheeler landscape has changed dramatically over this 5 yrs and had gone so bad I only have to ride either early morning or late night for solo rides.
I hope this comes as a simple education for people riding these days.
Also, it may also need to be discussed what lane maintaining means and which lane is the slow lane and which is the fast lane.
Also, this is a very very humble request. If people who are running the riding schools, can also invest and look to do something in the eastern part of the country too.

Great podcast. Initially I thought it's boring topic but as it progressed after 10min, then I knew where it's heading. Got lots of points that I often forget on the road. Kudos to come up with such an important topic that other channels don't even think of discussing.

The Idea of being courteous and polite on a motorcycle should be inherent. I have driven with my father, brother relatives and have seen them rage, but I guess I had a good luck of coming online during the early days of youtube and watching people like shumi back in powerdrift days to realise the importance of carrying the weight of being a good motorcyclist rather than being just a random biker out on a commute. To this day (and I am very young), whenever I hop on my motorcycle I always return smiling because something or someone on the way either gave me a smile or thanked me for not being an ass or for being patient with them on the road and that is one thing apart from riding that I dearly love. This was a great episode.

Probably one of the most important podcast topic you guys have published. I'll admit that I've been part of the problem on occasions with not respecting speed limits on open roads( never oversped on villages, because that is plain stupid).
And fighting with cops is just asking for trouble. Listen to their suggestions, wear your gear and represent the motorcyclists well comrades.

My father says:- a car overtakes us wrongly/ impatiently (in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand)don’t be impatient or critical to them.
“MAYBE HIS MOTHER IS UNWELL AT HOME.”
that statement always keeps me calm.😊 whenever I get impatient, with reckless drivers here in Greater Himalayas.
