- July 11 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, delivers the thirty-third in a series of speeches titled “The Scheme,” exposing the machinations by right-wing donor interests to capture the Supreme Court and achieve through the Court what they cannot through the elected branches of government.
Whitehouse break downs four recent Supreme Court decisions - Ohio v. EPA, SEC v. Jarkesy, Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, and Corner Post v. Federal Reserve - that are the latest in a line of rulings designed to gut the government’s ability to protect Americans from big polluters, corporate fraudsters, and self-interested employers. These decisions are part of an ongoing scheme by right-wing billionaires to capture and control the Supreme Court.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is what a true man of the people sounds like. Senator Whitehouse is a man of honor and integrity.

Thank you Senator Whitehouse! I am a 74 yo Canadian woman and I watch American politics with a keen interest. I know that what happens in the US soon happens in Canada. The dismantling of regulatory law can be seen here everyday. Our Conservative government calls it "cutting red tape" to appeal to small businesses, but really is for big business and against the Canadian people. I have been made painfully aware of this over the past 10 years as predatory business practices have attacked the most economically disadvantaged Canadian citizens with loans structured like mortgages. Thank you for the work you do. "Shining your little light" needs to happen (even in sparsely populated rooms) and then over the internet. It illuminates the fact that there are many people with a paucity of empathy, love for themselves or others willing to destroy our world and for what? Nothing of true value. I pray we all wake up from the nightmare and live the lives we were meant to live in the paradise that could be our world. Excellent Carolyn, thank you. I'm a 70 year old American (Michigan) in total agreement with your observations, as I have been observing them here for the past 45 years, and you are spot on. I frankly don't know how we extricate ourselves from control and power of these monsters. I see so much of the same happeniing i other countries across the world. I am truly in fear of what the coming years and decades have in store for us, because my gut tells me that it will be an uphill struggle at best to dissipate and terminate the power of these dark political forces. I doubt that I will live to see the necessary changes and resructuring needed to regain any shred normalcy, let alone progress, in this country and around the world.
