Minor Correction D! The A1 will do 1/32,000 sec shutter speed on electronic shutter. plenty fast and not 10x slower than the A93. more like half. The A1 has an incredibly fast readout speed of 8.1ms which has performed very well. Mechanical Shutter still has a place and the A1 is an absolute beast IMO. unless your whip panning slo mo stuff, I don't see it worth the loss of dynamic range and better noise performance the A1 offers as well as Dual native ISO of 800 and 4k in SLOG3. A93 is also nearly the same price as A1 unless you find it used for like 5k which i paid for mine. SONY still owes us a an update to the A1 firmware as it was frustratingly postponed and promised for Spring.

I shoot stage rally and drifting in the US on a ZV-E1, and I've started to run into slight rolling shutter artifacts during super fast subject transitions, luckily I have a friend with an a9iii and I'll get to try it out in the next couple of weeks

Honestly the most exciting part of the global shutters is that it will probably allow for more room for IBIS and/or internal eNDs.
    That allowing flash photo stuff.

Perfect timings just got a cup of coffee when my phone notified me, your channel is the reason i bought the A74 and 200-600mm , i luv them both, i will never have the skills to use an A9 Mkiii , the global shutter just opened up things for everybody and give Sony a bit of time to take care of that bit of lack of sharpness in S-Log and that'll be the step for them to offer it in some of the less expensive models like the next A1 coming out or the A7R 6, it just leads to a brighter future 👍

I'm interested in the A9III because I want/require pre-shot buffering. Yeah, that's not at all exclusive to the GS, but this is the first Sony camera with it. Maybe Sony will do all the A1 owners a favor and firmware upgrade it into their cameras. Beyond that, I like the new AI subject recognition. And the super fast autofocus...best available now. Add to that the flash sync without HSS. I'm not worried about the ISO base of 250. I have the A9 and never use it with the ISO set that low. I have an A7Rii that is good enough for landscape shots or if I really want better resolution. Would the A1 be better than my old A7Rii? Sure, but given a choice between the A9III and the A1, but the A9III is a better fit for me. Oh...and when I shoot hummingbirds, the rolling shutter on the A7Rii is horrendous. But it's pretty much a non-issue with the A9 and wouldn't be an issue with the A1 for the large majority of shots (I'm guessing)

Hey Dunna, loved the video, especially the graphic depicting the difference between a traditional electronic shutter vs a global shutter, and love the details on the A9iii!
Just wanted to clarify a few things:
I think it's worth clarifying the differences between a physical shutter, which take the shape of a curtain or global shutter, and an electronic shutter, which until the A9iii has read the sensor sequentially.
And while the ability to transfer the higher shutter speed allowed by the global shutter to flash photography is incredibly exciting, your mileage may vary because the actual duration of the flash can be wildly different between different speedlights and strobes as well as at different power settings. Most flash durations can vary from 1/400s to 1/20,000, which is far below the fastest shutter speed on the A9iii.
Hopefully we'll start seeing more lighting products designed for high-speed/high shutter flash photography! *stares at Aputure*
Anyways, keep up the great work!

It'll be interesting where Sony will be invested for their future releases. I can see the a1 mark 2 getting the the global shutter for their flagship. Also cinema series could receive global shutter, I could see that happening. Hard to say but at the current price point, I'm not looking at the GS. But I'm in the 98% and perfectly happy with my rolling shutter 📸

Do I need it? Yes! Can I do without it? Yes! Is Global Shutter revolutionary?! HELL YEAH!!!
Reasons for me wanting and needing a Global Shutter is the anti-flickering with E-shutter and non-jello effect with video recording. I shoot 90% in E-shutter now and only resort to M-shutter when flicking cannot be eliminated and when I use flash strobes. I like to move like a ninja through the room without anyone noticing I'm behind them until its too late. After that, being able to use flash with a F/1.4 Aperture will really be helpful. I won't have to slap on an ND filter anymore that gets annoying when putting it on and taking it off. Or using HSS that cuts the flash power in half. As long as I can sync my flash with a Global Shutter up to 1/8,000 shutter speed, then Im happy with that because I rarely go above 1/6,000 shutter speed for flash photography.
As for video, the 8-stops of ibis is just spectacular. Even though I use a gimbal for run-n-gun, I gimbal last so much before recharging it again. With the improve 8-stops, I can start using handheld more without having too much shaky footages that are not usable. In the end, Global Shutter offers me so much more for my workflow than a Rolling Shutter right now. Looking forward to GS coming to the future A7V, FX3-ii, A7RIV and hopefully the FX6-ii.

I'm just curious, with the noisier sensor (equivalent to APS-C) and softer image with OLPF, will the footage from this camera look for filmic? Or cinematic? Because it has the performance of a super 35 sensor and it's softer.

Rolling shutter is the worst idea of all time for a movie camera. Either have it read all the lines in rows at once instead of line by line or a global

    • @phrasalsyntax
      @phrasalsyntax 8 місяців тому

Rolling Shutter was not an idea, it was what the technology made possible in terms of pixel data storage. It's like to say that Hard Drives with moving parts was a bad idea after you develop Solid State Drives. On the other hand, rolling shutter sensors are the ones used on high end cinema (Arri Alexas, Sony Venice, thye new Blackmagic Cine 12K). This is because they managed to read the entire full frame sensor in less than 10 ms (Sony Venice 2 does it in 3 ms!), which makes rolling shutter effects go away in most scenarios. Don't forget that the trade off of GS is a decrease in dynamic range and signal to noise ratio.
