Those old ladies marwa bought the fruit from are the very well educated people who are now pensioners and used to work 9 to 5s in the institutions so most of them do speak some English and other languages they learnt from school. Some just don't or find it hard to speak as because they have not been using the languages like English for a long time. So a lot do understand you but may speak less. The younger generation mostly speak English and other languages because they learnt it in school and also use a lot of social media.

Europeans are not that bad minded like in America where black people get attacked in various ways and treated badly just because they are black and hated. Not all America's like that. In European countries they will only look at you as a form of curiosity especially in the former Soviet countries because they aren't used to seeing black people in person. But also the eastern Europe or the former Soviet countries did not participate in slavery as the others so they don't have anything against black people and also like to experience the culture of black people.

Soviet union disappeared from earth more than 30 years ago. Riga is NOT a soviet town. Riga was occupied by soviets, and this is a great difference. You can call Riga as you like - medieval, Hanseatic or whatever, but not soviet. Soviets have brought nothing good either to Riga or to Latvia in general, it was evil pure. Stop to desinformate people about Riga as soviet.
