I’ve been wanting Pearl to make Reference drums with swivel tube lugs and die-cast hoops for the longest time. Seems they’ve delivered. Well done! 🔥
Those are not tube lugs, they are single point lugs with 2-point screw connections. Better get that eyesight checked out.
@@MrE1981 I know they’re single-point lugs, but Pearl literally calls them Swivel Tube Lugs on their site, so I think my eyesight is just fine. 😂

Very balanced presentation! Too often minor flaws, quirks, or inconveniences aren't mentioned. It doesn't mean it's a bad product, just something to consider, and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, particularly the lug issue and L arm memory locks.

In 2000 I purchased a Pearl Masterworks kit. It was 5 years before Reference was launched. Masterworks offered the exact recipe that later became Reference. I could have custom ordered my own recipe but chose the pre configured recipe as I though it was a very innovative idea to incorporate Mahogony as inner plies for warmth. To make mine unique, I ordered mine in exotic Tamo Ash in Scuba Blue. This is still my favorite kit 23 years later but I must admit that I was a little upset spending the extra money for a custom kit and then they came out with the same recipe for Reference. I got over it.

I like the new hardware! I wonder why they went with die cast hoops? My Reference Pure sounds amazing! Are Fat Tone hoops an option with the Reference One?
Pearl Reference drums always had diecast hoops. They’re my preference. Superior tuning stability and accuracy and slightly more focused sound.

I’ll say this as nice as I can….I’m so glad I don’t have that funny German accent that German men have it’s hilarious sounding…. Definitely make me as attractive having that accent.
