Dear Mr. Husker, it’s April, 2023, so you may not ever see this, but, like a message in a bottle, I will post it anyway. I have been watching “Blazing Saddles” since it first came out in the mid seventies. I consider it one of the truly iconic movies of my generation, the kind of movie that everyone who grew up in that era can quote and be reasonably sure that their fellow old codgers will immediately understand the reference. That being said, after almost fifty years of being a fan, until I saw your comment from approximately 2020, about Hedley Lamarr’s all but inaudible comment as he leaves the bathroom toward the end of the movie, I had never even noticed it. So thank you for adding just one more reason for me to continue to rewatch and enjoy one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
I really think Hedley Lamarr's speech to the bad guys about to attack Rock Ridge should be included. "Men, you are about to embark on a Great Crusade to stamp out runaway decency in the West. Now you men will only be risking your lives, whilst I will be risking an almost certain Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. " (Great Crusade was a gag referencing Eisenhower's message to the troops on the eve of D-Day.)
"Thank you, thank you Hedy, thank you" "It's not Hedy, it's Hedley, Hedley Lamarr" "The hell you worried about, this is 1874, you'll be able to sue her" (Everyone laughs) "Mnmmmmmmmm"
Hedy Lamarr sued Warner Bros., charging that the film's running parody of her name infringed on her right to privacy. Brooks said he was flattered; the studio settled out of court for a small sum and an apology for “almost using her name." Brooks said that Lamarr "never got the joke."
After watching this movie on a double-date in 1975, I had asked my friend, whom happens to be a person of color, if he enjoyed the movie. He reply was, "I only saw half of the movie. I was on the floor laughing my ass off during the other half".
What people don't seem to understand is that context is everything. We don't get offended by EVERY joke made at our expense, it's the context and timing. I don't recall any black folks complaining about this (or any) of Brook's movies

How did Harvey Korman not get an Oscar for this. I mean the whole film and cast cudda been seriously considered but Korman was so bloody good. Comedy genius.
Madeline Kahn did receive a "Best Supporting Actress" nomination here. I do think that Cleavon Little, Harvey korman, Gene Wilder, slim Pickens, Alex karras, Burton Gilliam, Mel Brooks, and Gene Wilder all deserved Oscar nominations for their work here.
If I can find someone that so offends the people of Rock Ridge that his very appearance will drive them out of town. But where can I find such a man? Why am I asking you?
Saw this movie for the first time in June and laughed so hard, got the DVD for Christmas and I was laughing really hard again, but now after watching The Carol Burnett show and seeing Harvey Korman on that, I totally forgot that he was in this movie...well, I knew, but didn't put 2 and 2 together right away because Harvey sounds a lot different in this than some of the sketches on Carol Burnett.
Remember the Carol Burnett show was on TV, you could do certain things because of censors and Family shows, but you can do this in Movies and put a rating on the Movie.

I loved reading his lips, during the pie-tossing scene🤣.Jerry Lewis said he was scared to play against Harvey Korman (Harvey was only 1 year younger than Jerry).
Harvey Korman was a comedic genius, and one of my all-time favorite actors.
Other than Mel Brooks; Harvey Korman rarely got his inimitable talents appreciated and utilized by anybody else. The man was a first rate thespian.
Carol Burnett knew his talents
It's his deadpan humour that he specializes in. He sort of reminds me of John Cleese.
Wasn’t he in the original love bug?
