Good to see Mike trying and reviewing as like myself he fishes fixed spool and alot on beaches. Alot of the guys casting like andy are great casters and make it look easy with a nice fluid pendulum. I myself use both mult and fixed spool and even though I get them both out a fair distance I have alot of off days aswell
Thank you for the time you all put into an in depth on the beach review of the 2 newest Reels on the market for £200. He conclusions I have drawn are Penn Fathom 2Casting Special. Apart from the mag knob stiking out a long way and digging into the wrist when reeling in you were all pleased with this mew rough ground reel from Penn. All it needs is a shallow dished knob with a raised pointer. Then you can see where you have set it. Akiosf15 Nitro It looks the part in the carbon fibre wrap. You described it as a mono mag when it has the same mag system used on there CTM range. A curved plate with 4 magnets raised and lowered on a turn wheel cam. Akios do the Orion 110 and 120 suplied with a mono mag fitted by PMR. The knob on the handle being an offset teardrop together with the dished star drag adjuster are an improvement. Thank you for highlighting your main concern. The clearance between the spool and the side case is So large that lines below 25LB goes down behind the spool. I would have thought that Akios had learned from the same problem they had on some of there Shutle reels. Having to use heaver line greatly reduces line capacity. One again thank you for the reviews I wont be rushing out to spent £200 on the new reels when you can get the Penn Fathom for some£40 cheaper.
Love how you guys in the UK say there is a difference between a casting reel and a fishing reel. I totally agree. Danny Moeskops set the record with a Daiwa Millionaire Tournament. However that’s not a common reel to use for fishing here with 11lbs of drag. But There’s also not many people here in the US, on the northeast coast, that use convention reels with mags for casting.
Would have been nice to see the distance each person had got with casts they did .. Aprt from that i noticed some had to waste precious time fixing the line after casting . That imo would be the major factor of not spending money on it . When you reviewing new gear would be nice to have someone from the Company there with you so they can take any positivies negatives from the Gear that you are testing .. out . Like I see with some companies that make Guitar Gear .. when there product is being reviewed by guitar shops etc Maybe that is something you should consider looking at .. just an idea for you .

All the years i've fished,i've found that the reels that are manufactured to resemble formula one race cars, are shite when used for fishing. Carbon look?? that'll help you get 150 yards with bait won't it. The more flash they are, the worse they perform....oh and they don't stay flash looking for long!
@@fishinmalarkey9830 Still got one up in the loft, magged up too. I had the mag fitted for tournament casting, but found it a bit wild. I bought the first one that came to the NE of England, from a tackle dealer i used to fish with. It was brilliant for fishing roughish ground where you needed to get your gear to the surface quickly to avoid the snags. I also had a TSM3 which was a 7000 size Shimano, but unlike the TSM2 it didn't have the brakes, so proved to be a bit of a bastard to control,although it was built like a tank. Wasn't aware of post mag fitting back then, otherwise it would have been my go to reel for places like Balcary, which i had the privilege to fish in its heyday!
Is that braided line or mono line that looks like some heavy light cause I can see the light without even my glasses😅Gotta be some thick want to take that kind of a power stroke and get it out there
Thanks for a really good review and the time you all put into it. As a fixed spool user its really offputting to see so many experienced multiplier users end up with birdsnests most casts. It just makes me think there is no way I'm moving over to buy multpliers
I believe one of them is a Zziplex M427su - 14ft, primarily designed for use over mixed to rough ground and fishing at range these usually retail built at about £550. Take a look at the Zziplex Dymic LT14 Evo though if you want a good all rounder and capable of really long casts
I dont know whether i'll get a reply seeing as this video is now over a year old but how does the Nitron compare to the 515 mag 4 ? I''d be fishing mainly clean beaches with "mixed" being the most extreme . the 515 can be brought for around 120 ish quid and the Nitron I can currently get for 175 , I previously used 7ht mags but stopped fishing due to health issues and was forced to sell the reels

"Carbon look graphite"? In other words a plastic frame with a transfer applied to it like silkscreen? Not a monomag, it has the same magnet system as the 656ctm and shuttle reels. Sorry but i wont be buying one, I'll be sticking with my fathom2's
I agree with you. I think Akios failed to deliver on the F15. I love my 757 CTM, but the Squall II 15 Casting Special and Fathom II 15 are much better value than the F15. Akios needs to fix the spool gap issue and drop the price about £40.

The Fathom2 mag series have flat mag control dials with a pointer, the same as the 525 mag2 and mag3 series. Spot-on reels IMHO

still using my 7HT and the Penn supermag 525 with zziplex quatra match rods and although I am happy with them i would like to try both these reels.

It's due to power casting m8 , getting greedy with extra distance. Its easily picked out
picking out birds nests in a big multiplier is totally different to a low profile

Penn mag 4 all day long, the Nitron is not a reel we would advise buying, a lot of faults with the reel.
