i like that you dont tell us to sub all the time like the others, ive followed the channel for about 3 years now and like the calm mature commentary. Also I love the LEL concept, pretty much the only thing ive watched since joining, might have watched like 5 non-LEL videos in total. Really wish someone (or you) brought it to aoe3 which is my aoe
Commie games are really fun once you get into them. The meta and the politics and the big battle royales with hundreds of units and wonder defense is really entertaining! You should definitely try it out. :)
@cxzact I watched one of his 3 hour videos, that was intense. I agree the big 8 ffa, I think they're all diplomacy games(?), very entertaining. But I also watch a ton of LEL, it's definitely the level I am at, or possibly I'm lower lol. But those interesting volleys they pull off, great entertainment and lessons for me.
Watching this a few months late but I’ve been watching your videos for quite a few months now and can say you got me back into this game! First time commenting on a UA-cam video in over a decade. Keep it up, you are killing it!
AM playing this game at 72 and can tell you its quite the challenge. 15 ranked games and all a loss. Working on hotkeys to improve my APM. Can tell you at 30 you aint seen nothing yet! Each year goes quicker. Any suggestions to help improve? Stick with just a few civs? What ever you might offer I'd appreciate. Watch you mostly on you tube. Recently did join your discord channel.
My recommendation is determine what you like most about the game (Eco booming? Raids with cav? Big shots with siege? Aggressive control?) and then learn the basics of doing that strat. As you're learning it and playing, watch what your opponent does that's causing you to lose and then learn and apply counters to those strategies. Civs are a part of this, but fundamentals generally apply to all civs (have vils queud up, don't sit on resources unless you are saving for something specfic, get your upgrades, etc). Rotating between 2-4 is fine. I sometimes find switching civs keeps my mind fresh and find what I really like playing. Picking up a new game competitively can be tough. There's a lot to learn anf it's hard to figure out what your mistakes are. I always do this method because it lets me have fun by focusing on what I like and using that as a basis to improve. Good luck and congrats on finding a new hobby!
Learn how you enjoy playing. My dad started playing at 62 and loves knights! He started with magyars and Byzantines so as to learn with no crazy economic bonus, but play how he likes. I suggest you play the learning tutorial and nail down the fc 2 stable knights build. Or fast crossbow. And remember - armour blacksmith upgraes for cavalry, range and attack upgrades for archers first.
Just wanted to say that I enjoy that you don't harp on about likes and subs. You let the content stand on its own and the folks who appreciate it will stick around and respect you more for it
As a 47-year-old, this is what I've learned...age really is just a number, at least to this point. What I've lost over the years is just from the growing commitments from an accreting list of kids, friends and family. Not age. In fact, I'm the strongest I've been, due to working hard to eke out the time to do my routine. My limitations are not failures, but badges of honour from being vested in the lives of all I care about. Bullies and jocks peaked in high school and forever moan about the fading lives they let deteriorate. Functional people grow and share their strength. At least until you're 47. Maybe afterwards it's all walkers and Epsom salts. Shrug!
Happy early birthday T90! Love the content. I grew up playing Age of Empires 2. It was the first game I ever played and I would watch my parents all the time. Now I'm here watching your streams and videos and it takes me back to the joy that I had when I first started gaming as a kid. Here's to another decade of great AOE2 content!
I'm 22, live in the US but no a US citizen, became a software engineer since last year. My feeling is I am still in feudal, and just clicked the up to castle age button. Some lessons that I learned in dark and feudal: 1. Boars are scary. Get loom first, and be brave to face them. 2. Dears are sometimes a decent distance away from TCs, feel free to build a mill if you are not capable of pushing them in. 3. If you observe friends somehow get feitorias at the start of their game, try ally with them and ask for resources. 4. Fast Castle is not the only strategy, be respectful to others who still work hard in dark or feudal age. Some advices that I got from people in the late game: 1. Monks are not only used to pick up relics to generate gold, but also useful to heal up units. 2. Castle drop has huge potentials, but do not underestimate your opponents. 3. Idle villagers and inefficient resource gathering are probably no longer a very big deal as game progresses. 4. Winning the game is not probably the only goal, better to enjoy everything that happens along the way, such as building castles, boom with multiple TCs, bomber cannon micros, trash unit spams, trasporting to new territories, TC garrisons, and watching T90 streams.
30? You're just a whippersnapper! I was in high school when AOE2 was originally released, which makes me older than dirt (aka 40-ish). You've still got a good decade to go before everything starts falling apart! The thing you'll start to notice as your 30s progress is that your body starts needing less and less of an excuse for things to go terribly wrong physically. Sleep in just a little off position? Achy neck for a week. Move just a tiny bit wrong while scanning groceries? Several days of painful lower back spasms, with a fat hospital bill as a bonus. There's something else that goes downhill, but I just can't seem to remember it...
30 is a great age, your somewhat settled and are moving towards your life goals. You have the confidence of an older experienced man. Enjoy your 30's as much as possible. Don't feel sad it's all part of the program! Thanks for your videos and Happy Birthday!
I am turning 30 now. There were roman generals fighting on the battlefield at almost 70. So as long as you keep yourself well, you have so much time its all good man. Besides, if you so not focus on how boomers always needed goals at 20-30-40.. etc, and how 60 is the new 20. Embrace being able to be an example and leadee for youth and also a friend to nearly everyone older. As a man, 30 to 40 is an amazing time with how to interact with society if you want to he a light around others. As I get from 20's to 30, thing shave gotten so much nicer with others. And how we say, gl hf man hahah.
oops, felt called out. There you go t90, one more subscriber I've been part of that analytic for a while. Also I feel like asking people to subscribe is fine every so often vs like an every time subscribe spam.
Many people feel the same way of getting older I think... But doing the best you can in your life time is what counts You are doing a great job Tristan Happy birthday - We love you!
I remember before I got more comfortable with the game, I would hesitate to grab blacksmith upgrades with Byz because I figured their whole identity was countering, and I was never sure if my opponent was going to stick with what unit they're using.
Haven’t watched the whole vid so idk what the title is referring to yet, but Byzantines (and Teutons) were instrumental in my rise back up to 1000 ELO.
It's okay man, I'm almost 40 and played this game when it came out... 30 isn't so bad. Just remember to teach others, invest your time in people who need it and your family. "Wisdom is the one thing that makes growing old worth it." So make the best use of your time and don't waste your days :) love your videos, keep em comin!
Maps are mostly Arena Four Lakes and Arabia. CIvs Include Franks, Celtics, Teutons, and recently Vietnamese due to the exposure of other civs camp. A bit of a benefit.
Happy Birthday T90 and when it comes to life AoE2 comparisons i can fully say i got drush'ed in my life so i started to wall up and stay inside my base in my feudal age, iSit and fatslob were onto something
I was late to get my Feudal age upgrades and by the time I could click-up to Castle age, I had Castles on my face and cavaliers Rams battering down my walls so I had to run away with my vills and make a sneak base while re-booming and getting to Castle. This is not about any game I played, this is just the story of my life in AoE2 terms.
The only thing I ended up disliking about turning 30 (45 now), is I distinctly felt how my "factory warranty" expired, lol I started feeling the effects of every minor previous lesion And I take VERY good care of my health, but still Happy B-day T90!

Hearing about your UA-cam statistics about viewers from Australia as an Aussie was pretty interesting. I didn’t guess that we’d be your fifth highest viewers. I’ve watched your content since ~2017 but recently I’ve got several of my family members watching your content too. I can’t see us being your top viewership anytime soon though 😂
A way to comfortably do it could be to put subscribe reminders in the description and/or a pinned comment alongside what you normally have in the descriptions and pinned comments.
My main takeaway from getting older is 1) Don't make fun of old people because it will hurt THAT much more when you're old, and 2) You'll eventually know why not to make fun of old people- and it's because no one feels that old, you maintain most of your youthful tendencies and it takes much longer to mature than you'd think.
Hey T90 - happy birthday in advance! Have you been listening to Bo Burnham’s “turning 30” on repeat? When I turned 30 18 months ago, that song got me through a rough time.
I’m 35 and I barely remember the past 5 years. Think about the fact that every year you age that 365;day year becomes a smaller overall % of your total life… that’s why “time flies” as you age
Only problem with doing 8 infantry civs is that every champion has the exact same stats. Aussie numbers are possibly higher on YT as it can be hard sometimes to watch everything live. Being on YT means we can still enjoy, but at a later stage. Tx for providing this. Keep up the great work 🤩
I am actually 16 years old. My father used to play this game all the time when he was younger and 8 years ago he told me about it, I couldn´t stop playing it since then 11
I actually really liked red's use of cavalier to supplement his trash army. Granted, it wouldn't have been as necessary if he'd gotten more skirm upgrades, but considering his lack of those they were a good choice to counter blue's skirms and to snipe trebs. And if they hadn't been out of position during the final push he could have used them to snipe blue's trebs once the halbs were gone and maybe pushed through.
I got castle dropped and had to deal with bombard cannons while I was in the dark age and just starting with not even building a house yet and my town center got completely destroyed along with all my villagers and buildings and barely had enough wood to build a single lumber mill. Life used cheat codes against me and I have had to barely survive on 1 villager and a single lumbermill barely and now at 34 next Saturday I will be starting to go to Castle Age I hope.
You don´t need to say "please sub" you can add that visual sub button getting clicked at the start of video and one time at a really cool moment in game. It´s more subtle but still reminds people :)
Got to say, I'm 50yo. Time goes faster as you get older. Tristram got it absolutely right when he said he would probably be 40 by the time he got used to being 30. I swear I turned 40 five minutes ago but now I'm 50.
I am currently 33 and whenever I get the question, "How does it feel to be ____ years old?" I just reply with "About the same as yesterday." My uncle's theory on why time seems to progress more quickly as you age is because each unit of time represents a smaller and smaller percentage of the total time you have been alive. We also seen to run out of storage space in our brains, so fewer things are held in memory and it makes it seemed like nothing has happened between today and 1 year ago or 10 years ago.
"all my friends are in castle age, theyve got like monastaries that they go to every weekend"
that whole part was genius
Happy birthday T90 ! Here's to another year of top-notch AoE2 content !

I was today years old when i realized that harvesting sheep doesnt count as Hunting
That's kind of messed up because herding isn't a thing, and you do sometimes have to hunt down the sheep to claim them.
Your comparison to life and the Ages and buildings in the game had me laughing like a crazy person😂

I did not expect to get mildly emotional at an AOE2 analogy today LOL g'donya
First time I actually subscribed when someone said "subscribe". It's a rare blessing I give unto you.
Happy birthday man! Great analogy of aging in life with age-ing in AoE2, I do such analogies all the time too.
your commitment and mostly your honesty about the channel is why i clicked the sub button once i saw your content for the first time

from 75% to 60%. 15% of the audience in 25-35 category aged out of it 11
The point of your life when everyone is telling you to get married is the equivalent of MBL yelling at Tim to go up to imp.
I love that Age of Empires life analogy! Which reminds me, I should probably start thinking about the castle age...
u click up to castle age?
It's okay to still watch this if you're older, but it brings back memories?
No. Video games are for children. Adults have to stop enjoying them as soon as they hit Castle Age.
Love Elo Legends. I learn so much watching others play.
I think the life comparison to different AoE ages was maybe my favourite part of your videos yet.

Now im 30 and LIVING my castle age... 30 isn't a big deal dude it can be amazing!
I'm 38. I fast castles in my mid 20's but forgot my blacksmith upgrades until I was in my early 30's.
Australian viewer here - been watching your stuff for the last month and I didn't realise I wasn't subscribed!
I am also in castle age now, working on the economy for a good imperial age.
Also keeping the military ready to defend from rushes.
I first played this game when I was like 8, and now I'm also almost 30 and still play it.
Got to say, I'm 50yo. Time goes faster as you get older. Tristram got it absolutely right when he said he would probably be 40 by the time he got used to being 30. I swear I turned 40 five minutes ago but now I'm 50.
I am currently 33 and whenever I get the question, "How does it feel to be ____ years old?" I just reply with "About the same as yesterday."
My uncle's theory on why time seems to progress more quickly as you age is because each unit of time represents a smaller and smaller percentage of the total time you have been alive. We also seen to run out of storage space in our brains, so fewer things are held in memory and it makes it seemed like nothing has happened between today and 1 year ago or 10 years ago.
Ever since AOE2 came to xbox I have been watching you from Australia 🇦🇺 😁
I have learnt so much already. Keep up the good work mate 👍
I watch you all the time I just realized I was not subbed when you brought it up. Thanks T90 Very Cool!
