      Southgate logic

    • @mazdakmina9493
      @mazdakmina9493 2 роки тому +30

      LOL That wasn't a "learning opportunity!" Southgate, yes, the same Southgate who apparently seemed to be playing for the draw and to go to penalties (as evidenced by putting in Sancho and Rashford in in the 120th minute for penalties, instead of earlier to try to break down the Italian defense and win) truly had *no better options* when it came to penalties!
      How so? Well, because Saka actually *has* taken penalties at the professional level in *the last two years.* Specifically, he's taken *two* penalties, and while he *has* made both, obviously, that is *still* very much *not* a reliable record, and *very much* someone you *do not* want in your Top 5 *at all!*
      So why was him being in the Top 5 somehow *not* a miscalculation? Because outside of the 4 players that came before him, compared to players like (I'm only going to name the other players who were on the field at the time, as well as Henderson and Walker who were subbed off in the 120th minute) Sterling (an *abysmal* 2-for-5 on penalties in his career), Grealish (only taken *one* penalty in his *entire* career, and *that* was back in January of 2016 and not even at the professional level), Henderson (only taken *two* penalties in his *entire,* long career, and his *only* make coming in December of *2015),* Stones (never taken a penalty in his entire career), Phillips (never taken a penalty in his entire career), Shaw (never taken a penalty in his entire career), and Walker (never taken a penalty in his entire career), as you can see, *that* record is somehow *still* the *best* one on penalties, because the rest were *so* abysmal (all statistics taken from Transfermarkt, if anyone wants to look them up for themselves)!
      So yes, somehow, you almost *wish* he simply was giving Saka a "learning opportunity," because the *truth* of Southgate's decision making was actually *much worse!* Yes, somehow despite having a penalty lineup *that* incredibly thin, he *still* apparently *played for the draw* and was trying to win *on penalties!* Absolutely *awful* game management by Gareth Southgate!

      Southgate should be arrested, put on trial and jailed. I believe that his deliberate lack of care in the final game was the result of racial corporations such as BLM bribing Southgate into diverting attention towards the black members of the team, particularly during the penalty shootout, whether it was originally meant to be good or bad. His capitulation to the media and woke left was the reason he chose Saka, Sancho and Rashford to take the last 3 penalties. Now the fact that England have lost and these 3 great players are receiving tremendous racist abuse is nothing more than a political ploy set up by Southgate to arouse antifa corporations into starting another race war, and making more money for these evil organisations that thrive on chaos, segregation and stereotyping. Every tournament I hear "England should've won." Whether that was 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010... England's problem is their overconfidence. For example, whenever it goes against Germany, they make comparisons with WW2. A good sportsman's character is shown in the way he deals with victories and defeats. And during the recently Euro, England showed that they were the worst kind of winner and a violent loser. And the result was that not only Italy but the whole world outside the Commonwealth were celebrating last night that wonderful justice. So, at first England should learn to be honourable towards other nations, before they could think about how to become a deserved winner.

Sterling had 1 great game in the tournament, the rest of the time he spent running into traffic, posing and posturing and slowing down attacks, failing to provide any end product the majority of the time when he was asked to play a final ball to create a chance, and let’s not even talk about the amount of chances he fluffed in amazing positions! A few tap ins aside he was kept on far too long in all the games and in the end, I was pretty much resigned to knowing he was always going to start.. easy to quote hindsight, but does this team score more goals and kill teams off quicker through the tournament if the likes of Grealish, Sancho, Saka, Foden etc start the amount of games he did instead of being used for the odd game here and there and/or being used as impact subs! Overall it was so negative last night against Italy and it’s hard to run with the “oh, it’s a great achievement reaching the final” no, f’k that… as a nation we have to stop glorifying failure and defeat, check the cold facts and be way more attacking and ruthless if we’re to WIN these competitions… especially with that level of talent in the squad!

    This has been going on for decades and decades and decades. England come up against real quality in knockout games and we get beat. Honestly , think about it and look back all the way to 1970. We don’t ever win against real quality in knockout games. We just don’t. Spain 96? ( Spain were serial losers at the time) Germany 2021 ( poor German team). Southgate has not changed anything. We’ve just had two tournaments with easy routes and a good draw. When he beats someone good in a crunch game playing some good football then he’s changing things. Bottling it again by parking the bus and hoofing it up field to no one is not good football and we just won’t progress like that. Italy played the game as it should be played and believed in themselves. England froze , played the scoreboard and forgot to express themselves. By conceding midfield they allowed Italy to come back and gain confidence. Not only that it subdued the crowd and took away that advantage. To win big games you have to learn not to be afraid of losing them. The England inferiority complex bandwagon rolls on to the next tournament.

      Saka actually has taken 2 professional penalties, and made 2, which, outside of the four players who went before him, is actually a *much* better record on penalties than *the entire rest of the team (which, if I'm remembering what I read earlier today correctly, *most* of whom have *never* taken more than *two* penalties in their *entire careers,* and the *only* ones who have, like Raheem Sterling, have *abysmal* professional records from the spot, like Sterling's 2-for-5 on penalties in his entire career! Statistics from Transfermarkt)!
      In other words, I agree that Southgate *badly* mismanaged the situation, but I disagree on *how* he did so! Let's be honest, the way he parked the bus nearly the entire game, even *after* the equalizer before the 70th minute (which means, he basically parked the bus for 50+ minutes, with the biggest evidence of this being that he left his two fastest and most creative wingers, Rashford and Sancho, out until the *120th minute,* and *only* brought them on for *penalties* and *no* other reason), basically suggests he was playing for the *draw,* and *not* the win, when he *very clearly* had *very limited* penalty taking options!
      Either way, I completely agree that this was *terrible* game management by Southgate!

      All groups at the exception of group F were easy for a team the size of England.

    • @dia6olo64
      @dia6olo64 2 роки тому +12

      @Lenny Roach FIFA rankings say England's group was the 3rd easiest behind the Netherlands and Belgium.
      Also of the 6 teams played by the finalists and not counting the final, England's 6 opponents have a total ranking of 144 with their highest ranked opponent only ranked 10th. Italy's opponents have a total ranking of 89 of which two of them were ranked 1 and 6 in the world and even after that another two were ranked 13 and 17, they faced far tougher opponents.
      On top of that you can add that not only did England pretty much play fully at home, they actually conceded just as many chances at goal (attempts at goal) as they created, it’s actually worse than that because they have created less than what they have conceded.
      Italy on the other hand have created 3 times as many attempts at goal as England have despite having faced better opposition and have also concede less chances than England have again despite having faced better opposition.
      The point I’m making here is that it’s 2 tournaments on the bounce now were England have had a very soft draw which has allowed them to progress deep into those tournaments but that doesn’t tell the real story, in fact it often lies.
      A good team should be measured by how they fair when up against another quality team and in England’s case I’m afraid that they fair terribly, they fail to see off the bigger teams probably as many as 8/9 times in 10, have done so for a very long time and they still do so today.
      By comparison Italy are like the opposite 8/9 times out of 10 they beat real opponents, their problem usually lies in turning up for those lesser games or at least it has been historically.
      That’s the difference here between a team that thinks it’s good and one that has actually proven it.
      I’m not saying England are rubbish, far from it, they have a decent team who with the right manager could really make a mark. But, as things are they are not as good as many like to think they are and the two recent good tournament runs had a lot more to do with England's soft opponents than it had to do with England's quality.

We had a similar situation in 2008 and 2010 when we had a great team - probably among the four best teams in the world - but were always confronted with the fact that Spain simply was even better. That is what happend yesterday. What the italian team did under such pressure was simply fantastic. Insigne, Veratti, Jorginho hardly ever lost the ball despite the aggressive English pressing. So their victory was well deserved. England has now 15 months to find out how to deal with that Italien midfield, because there is a chance of another meeting in Qatar ... Gareth has not only ruined the careers of 3 great young players, but the nation, and the aftermath of the event, and the government is not doing anything about it. I encourage others to re-comment this idea and make it viral, this is a very plausible sentiment.
