As a lawyer.... you use precedent when the case has factual or legal similarities to previous cases. When facts are new, you are not obliged by any particular precedent. That’s jurisprudence 101. Bellinger is on point. MLB established a precedent here.... a very bad one.

The World Series was stolen from multiple teams. It doesn't matter if the Astros cheated in the ALDS, ALCS or WS to win those series. The fact is they cheated all season long to finish high enough in the standings to qualify for the Post Season. End of story.

Technically yes and no.
Physically speaking Lance won the races first. He crossed the finish line first. But because it was later revealed he was doping they essentially disqualified him because he was cheating and as a result no longer officially recognize him as the winner.
NCAA and Olympics, similar incidents have occured. Teams and athletes still "won" technically speaking, but due to various incidents, cheating or othwerwise the organization/committee etc etc have the power to strip said teams/atheletes from being recognized as such. The same needs to happen here. The Astros cheated their way to a World Series Championship. They don't deserve to be recognized as such. Strip the title.

A $5mil fine is nothing to Jim Crane. Hinch and Luhnow got only a 1 year suspension. Both could potentially end up with jobs in MLB in the future. Perhaps not in the same roles but in some capacity.
Loss of first and 2nd round draft picks doesn't hurt them until later on and even then they can simply make trades to get pieces they need or sign free agents

No it isn't. It's the major leagues. It's the professional level of baseball. That's what makes this even more important. For Manfred to not strip the title or punish any player, this is basically him saying to every ballplayer at any level, "it's ok to cheat. Just don't get caught"

As per Altuve's recent interview: The guy has nooooooo tattoos prior to this one he supposedly got mid season. Carlos said he got a bad tattoo on his collar bone that was not finished. Jose says here he got it mid season in San Fran......So in October his tattoo was not finished. He also says it took 2 sessions do. To get an incomplete tattoo? While you're on the road away and not just wait til the offseason? The collar bone area moves alot and how can you get a tattoo in that area while you're playing everyday in baseball. It will not heal correctly either. So no tattoos in his pictures before this and he decides to get one on the road during the season... Yea ooooookay. These guys are bad liars.

Vacating the title is what should have been done. I don't want to hear about precedent. Just because it has never been done doesn't mean it should not have been done. Sometimes you have to set a new precedent. I am of the belief that this was one of those times. I think most people would have been satisfied with that. If you gave the players immunity this would have been a great way to make them feel the pain. Then we would have seen some remorse on their faces.

I don’t understand why he just wouldn’t suspend the Astros from the playoffs for one year? If they tank their not going to get they’re draft picks and the next year they are eligible they don’t get in and if they have a winning record they don’t make the playoffs.
Also, if I’m other teams I’m appealing every single game at the Astros stadium. That will light a fire under MLB and will make them actually do their job.

Jon Ruiz because the roster is different. Players/personnel on this years roster who were not part of the cheating would be getting punished while guys who are no longer on the team would still be getting nothing. Just remember that any major punishment handed to the players would almost certainly be appealed by the union and could end up in courts or arbitration for months if not years. He just wants this to be forgotten but underestimated the blow back.

Manfred should have suspended the 40 man roster for 17 and 18 of the Houston Astros for one year for the 2020 season . If any player who was on the the 40 man roster for the Astros for years 2017- 2018 and is now with a new team should still be suspended for 2020 . The Astros could call up minor league players for 2020.

Life long born and bred Red Sox fan here. I was 7 years old when I watched *ucky Dent hit that Home Run in game 163 of the 1978 season. My 2nd favorite team has always been "whoever is playing the Yankees." That has now changed. My 2nd favorite team is now "whoever is playing the Astros." And that isn't solely because they cheated and haven't really "come clean". It is also because I am disgusted at my own team and Alex Cora and the 2018 championship seems highly tainted and undeserved at this point. And that really hurts as it was such an exciting postseason for Red Sox fans just because of some of the stories like Eovaldi and Pearce coming up big.
When the strike happened, I remained a fan. When PEDs became prevalent and known, I remained a fan. This whole thing is different. This tainted the integrity of the entire league, both through the actions of the players, coaches and managers, and due to the inadequate investigation that led to insignificant consequences for the cheaters by Manfred. Its going to take the MLB and the Red Sox some work and time to get me back to caring about them as much as I have tended to my whole life. From a disgruntled Red Sox fan to the Yankees I say, good luck and I sincerely wish you the best, if only for this season.
