- As we continue the series in the long anticipation for the 40th anniversary of Wrestlemania, up next is Wrestlemania 8 at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis in front of 62,167 fans, taking place on April 5th, 1992. It was hosted by Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan, with interviewers Lord Alfred Hays, Sean Mooney, and Mean Gene. Reba McIntyre and Ray Combs were the only celebrities at the show.
The big sell was a Double Main Event with the Nature Boy Ric Flair defending the WWF Championship against Randy "Macho Man" Savage in a feud over Miss Elizabeth who had an alleged "affair" with Ric Flair. This is followed by the last match on the card, two former friends Sid Justice taking on Hulk Hogan. Also in action was Bret "the Hitman" Hart facing off against WWF Intercontinental Champion Rowdy Roddy Piper. The Undertaker vs. Jake "the Snake" Roberts, and more.
We attempt to create a totally different Wrestlemania 8 card and make use of the Ultimate Warrior the right way.

Long blue walk way to the ring is what I remember. Also the white dome.
How we never got a Santana v Martel PPV blow off match is beyond me. I love how after 3 years the storyline to the match would happen, and as long as they are given enough time, that match could steal the show!! The Savage v Roberts match is another that could have been great too.
Love the ideas, plus you kept the ALL HASBRO MANIA intact.

I'm down for most of this. A Michaels v Slaughter match would have been interesting to see how they would have jelled together and the build up you describe is pretty good. For Shawn to defeat an established veteran would have definitely propelled him. Love the Sid v Taker scenario and the double turn. That would make a lot of sense. Savage v Roberts should have been a Wrestlemania blow off absolutely regardless of the match stipulation with Savage going over. Boss Man v Repo Man- I'm a bit meh on that. Maybe if Boss Man hadn't already had a similar angle and match with The Mountie then it might have been a bit more fresh. I would personally have had Virgil v Repo Man- match quality would have been debatable but Repo Man did cost Virgil the Million Dollar Belt so from an angle standpoint it would have made sense. Not sure what I would have done with the Tag Team belts but Legion Of Doom did end up on the show being interviewed so I would have maybe had them challenge Money Inc in an impromptu match. I still would have kept with Flair v Hogan for the title and Hogan only winning by count out even if his career was on the line if he didn't win it. With enough good booking could have still got the emotion. Have Flair, Perfect and a fully turned Sid attack him after the match and still have that Warrior pop saving the day. Piper v Bret is rightly perfect- keep it at is. Loving the ideas here though even if a couple of them are not to my personal taste. That's what wrestling fandom is to me- throw some ideas out there. Really enjoyed listening to this.
I miss these days of wrestling, to me the voice of wwf will always be Gorilla Monsoon and Mean Gene Oakland and WCW/NWA the voice is Gordon Solie and Jim Ross. And I miss the managers like Bobby the Brain Heenan, Sensational Sherri, Mr Fuji, Jim Cornett, Woman, Miss Elizabeth, Slick, Brother Love, Paul Bearer, etc
As much as I’m a big fan of the golden and attitude era managers made the golden era special, the commentators were legendary most would say Solie is the goat, I also loved having Jesse Ventura on commentary

I would've had Flair v Hogan in a Title v Career match in which Flair retains his title, and Hogan retires
Always wonder if Andre was healthy enough. You could have done an Andre vs Flair vs Hogan for the wwf title. Biggest triple threat match in history. Would out Andre over so he can get thay custom belt Vince made for him and he drops it to Flair at summerslam and Flair gets the winged eagle back and Vince gives the title be made for Andre to Andre to keep.
Andre was not healthy by this point and Triple Threat matches were not introduced yet at this point.

Sid supposedly had a clause where he would get to main event a wrestlemania

WM8 was the greatest WrestleMania they've ever had. The card was perfect as is.
The reason Flair and Hogan didn't take place was because the timing wasn't right. I am sure Plan A was to take the audience on a long ride and build Flair and Hogan for WM10. Flair needed to establish his reputation, which they weren't going to do in 7 months. By the way, Flair wasn't the second biggest wrestling star in the 80s, Andre, Macho Man, and a handful of others on the WWF roster were bigger stars than he was. There was a lot of people who had no idea who Flair was when he became a full time WWF employee in August of 1991.
Unfortunately the steroid "scandal" spoiled the original plans and the WWF never got to follow through on what they wanted to do. The course would've been Flair vs. Macho Man at WM8, then Flair vs. Warrior at WM9, and finally Flair vs. Hogan at WM10.
It's called an alternative booking, i disagree it was the greatest Wrestlemania but we all have our favorites!

must have Hogan vs Flair. Just have Hogan win by DQ and Warrior comes out to help him. Flair could drop title to Savage at a later date.

Throw in a battle royal and card is set.
Wish LOD stayed, and Savage and Sid would be interesting. I still feel that a DQ win wouldn't be a good payoff for fans whereby Bash at the Beach was.
Savage was meant to face Jake.
