Guitar Center is notorious for not including any of the paper work that comes with the guitar unless it has a bag or case.
Yo, FUCK THAT
SHIT.
I'd be demanding that shit otherwise they can lose the fucking sale lol everything negative thing that goes on with Guitar Center ALWAYS revolves around laziness I swear to God dude ALWAYS.
KristinaYEesMickThomsonVSYEes
Jazz Master has the best all around the sound, especially the open notes and chords. Its a deep riff machine.
The Jackson has really nice note definition which makes it the ideal soloing guitar. Which is why they compliment each other so well just like the players do to each other.
By far the best review I have ever seen on UA-cam, plus it features the guitars of my favourite guitarists. You covered every possible topic.
Well done man!!
Other channels need to take note of this brilliance.
Loved the format by the way.
Thanks for the video, you've earned yourself a new subscriber.
P.S I have the original Fender Jim Root Telecaster.
Regards from South Africa 🤘
Just wanna put time stamps here for my own sanity

Rect.w/no boost sounds the best IMO it sounds lower n meaner and more grimy to me.
But then again I don't know shit about actual tone lol Im waiting on my first guitar I'm just studying everything I fucking can at the moment 🤣
I'm either getting a Ibanez RG121/131 or 221, or an Epi. Les Paul 100/L.P. Studio LE
@@richardrardin9156 your ears will mature later. If you pay close attention the boost makes the palm mutes more articulate and percussive/ more brutal. Also the sound is more saturated. People use overdrives with amps if the amp unboosted sounds too dry or the bass is too loose and not tight. If you ever need an overdrive to use with a loose amp use the maxon st9 pro+. The problem with most overdrives is that they simply cut the bass in order to make it tighter, but with the maxon it cuts the bass to tighten it but with the low boost switch that it has it brings back the lows that you lose when cutting but in a much tighter and brutal form. Run it on 18v mode for maximum power.
I have both, except I have the black Jazzmaster, I think the Jazzmaster is my favorite based on craftsmanship
i JUST ordered my Mick Thomson. after watching this video and another where Mick explains every little detail of the guitar sold me. the jazzmaster is just a little too bright IMO based on the comparisons. Thank you so much for doing a side by side comparison! it helped a lot!
Let's just say that the two guitars have different roles in the sound of the band that's why the pickups used by the two guitarist have different sounds :)
Wow..phenomenal job! Just subscribed. You crushed it! I can’t wait for my Jim Root Stratocaster to come in Monday 🔥
They’re both solid. I have the Jim Root Tele and I love it so much. I want his flat black jazzmaster too but Mick’s soloist is a straight up beast. Great detailed video!
Love this video dude probably the best demo vid I've seen and you covered literally the most important stuff
KristinaYEesMickTomsonVSYEes
Great review dude really enjoyed it
Great review, thanks mate!
Great vid man. Think that settles it. Im getting the jazzmaster. Havent been able to find either to try but i saw what was going on. Good breakdown. Do more!!
The Jazzmaster is great. I'm not even a big Slipknot fan but it meets all my needs perfectly.
Great review. Subscribed 🙂
Very informative, thank you
Great video and super detailed! I ordered the Jim Root v4 and I’m getting it soon
Thank you & awesome to hear! Enjoy it my friend!
I’m getting mine in a week whenever sweetwater ships it
Did you get yours yet tjpatterson?
@@MostlyLost it’s kool guitar
@@creepymcpeepers yeah I got this a year ago when I commented haha. It’s a great guitar I use it for my drop tune stuff
Great video !!
Great playing mate!
Wow thanks for showing the wrap thing. Totally made a big difference
It may have been said, but missing accessories is an affliction of buying a guitar off the rack from Guitar Center. Both of my Pro Series Mick Thomson models came with the Jackson manual, a truss rod cover plate and screw, and all the hex keys needed to adjust everything on the instrument. Excellent comparison, man! \m/
My Jackson Pro soloist came with the manual, a real signed promotional poster type thing ( only about A5 sized) but it’s signed by Mick himself which is cool. It came with an Allen-key set but only one of them fit which was the truss rod adjustment one. The other two for the nut, bridge height and the string locks where both far too big so I had to find ones that fit in my tool box. No case either but I expected that, got it for around £750 from GuitarGuitar
I have the Mick Thomson Jackson (Indonesia). I got it from musicstore. It came with a little bag with an allen key set, the truss rod cover and its screws. No manual though.
Great video! Very well done! I now this is an old video but I just got the JR Jazzmaster last Saturday, July 25th 2022. Right out of the box the guitar was set up perfectly for me. Everything looked fine and it played even better than I could have hoped for. That was until I went to bend the low E at the 1st fret and the string immediately popped out of the nut slot. I started looking at it real closely and it appeared that the nut slot for the low E was barely filed at all. By the 4th fret there were no issues at all, but that damn 1st fret, I could breath on the string and it would fall out. I took it to Sam Ash and the guy called 2 days later and said there was nothing wrong with the guitar at all. So I went and picked it up and asked some questions but I wasn't satisfied that this was normal as none of my other guitars that I have now or throughout my time as a player has ever had this issue. I thought at this price point, there should be nothing wrong with this guitar. Sent it back today and I will await the exchange. I can't imagine that Jim would think this was normal for a sig guitar of his lol.
Okay I am so sorry for rambling... is it safe to assume that this was not a problem you encountered with the jazzmaster?
Well congrats on the guitar. No this was not my experience and I put thicker strings on it on the first day. I have had a similar problem on one of my custom shops so despite the manufacturing location it still does happen. I hope everything ends up okay on your exchange.
It's a tough choice between the 2. When you talk in a mix the fatter sound from the Jim root EMG's really helps fill out the guitar sound IMO vs the Mick Thomson. but the mick thompson clearly has that tightness you like for heavy chugs. When you did the clean tones in the bridge the soloist is by far better. When you did the neck cleans, i had a hard time deciding when you rolled the volume off on the jazzmaster. At that point it really cleaned up nicely. For me I honestly would take the Jim Root model but I'd immediately dump the EMG's for a set of Fishman's.
KristinaYEesVSThomsonbyYEes
MickYEesThomsonVSYEesbyYEes
thanks, man!
Top review, mate! An interesting point was the guitar case! With so much cost cutting going on, to make a profit, even upper mid range or higher priced guitars are coming with just a carry bag. I wouldn't even bother with a guitar that didn't come with a case......once upon a time. These days even a PRS under 5 grand (Aussie dollars) comes with a bag. Good bag but still a bag.
Once again, good review. You gave every example required perfectly! Cheers
Gunna have to go with the Mick Thomson sig. Fast and tight sounding, good clarity on the low end. The Jim Root sig, looks cool, probably a little more versatile, but to me it sounded pretty muddy and dare i say even dull in comparison. But hey thats just me.
It’s cuz emgs are grainy but cut through well. The mick blackouts (I have em). More versatile and great for cleans/warmth. Honestly they just sound great together. I prefer micks tone alone but prefer them both overall.
I can confirm with the other guy. No manual but the alen wrenches and the optional truss rod cover. I have the white one also and i have not put on the cover because the cover is black and looks a little strange on the white headstock, just my preference.
Awesome vid! Had to see this! Lol!
I worked at the U.S. Fender/Jackson company working on many of the guitars that left the factory. Matter of fact, I even worked in the Jackson custom shop. What I am tying to say is, are you aware that both guitars come from the literal same company; and dare I say, the literal same roof... At this point the only thing different is the name on the guitars. But the woods, and company that makes them are the exact same. Just food for thought.
So Jackson is Fenders metalbuddy?
@@NoobOnATele that is correct sir. More like Jackson is Fenders #!$&...
Fender bought out Jackson/Sharvel guitars some time during the early 2000's. The sad part is that it's a shell of its former self. There were a lot of things i didn't like. But that's for another comment.
Woah that's crazy....I'm glad I'm able to ask someone like you something lol I hope you answer!
Is the fender cheap humbuckers in the squiers like the same as the Jackson ceramic humbuckers that come in the Dinky js22/32 etc?
Would u recommend a JS32 RHOADS over a HSS squier strat? For a beginner?
Also considering a Ibanez grg121/131/221 OR
Epi.Les Paul 100/LP Studio LE
🤣
SORRY BUT THATS MY LIST FOR POTENTIAL FIRST GUITARS.
I'm saving up I mean why not get a decent first guitar , almost intermediate, but not bottom of the barrel ya know?
I think a grg221 or the JS32 Rhoads or the Les Paul Studio Epiphone is what I'm gonna choose from, the $250 range for sure.....then I'm planning on an Orange Crush 20w amp or Marshall/Blackstar equivalent, but that Orange has the tuner n metronome built in (the RT version at least) and I can get it for like $90 used in great shape from G.C./Reverb!
@@richardrardin9156 Very long message lol
I would always avoid the Squire under 300. What matters most of all is the wood of the body. If it's between the Jackson or Squire, I would probably go with the Jackson. As for the pick-ups, I didn't work on low grade guitar personally, but from what I have seen, they are different pick-ups.
Between your options, I would probably go with the Epiphone Studio provided it's a set neck. If your looking for a strat single pickup sound then I would go with a Mexican fender strat or even a Tagima. They are very solid guitars and can be easily upgraded. If your in so Cal, go to KYR music in Chino to try them out. The Ibanez is a decent guitar for the price, but I would look to spend a little more for a better quality. The Epiphone may be worth the bang for the buck. This is not to be mistaken for a Gibson however....
Amps, I would say the Black star or Boss Katana is a really good amp. Orange is good, but not bellow a 30w. Hope this helps.
Blackouts are the only actives I’ve ever liked and they’re better than almost every passive. That says everything. But the playability of Jim’s guitars is better than micks. Micks body, Jim’s bridge, Jim’s finger board, mick‘s headstock, mick‘s pickups. THAT would be the best metal guitar of all time. Any type of metal too.
I have both the black and white Mick Thompson soloists. They are beasts.
Build the EMTY blackouts into the Jazzmaster and the EMG Daemonums into the SL2, perfect.
The EMTYs sound best to my ear on the 5150 in distortion, the daemons more on the Friedman, but generally they are in different worlds, because you have different basic characteristics with both guitars, not only because of the pickups, but also through the whole concept.
Nevertheless, they are both at home in the metal area, but generally suitable, whereby the EMGs distort more in the clean, but thanks to volume pots no issue.
My favorite part on the Jackson Mick Thomson model is those Side Position Marker Rectangular Inlays. Mick was with Ibanez for 12 years and those same inlays could be seen on his personal guitars. Never once did Ibanez make that available on his artist model sold to the public. I wrote Ibanez a couple of times when he was with them and offered to pay extra to have one built for me and they replied with "Those inlays just for artist."
That highlights a really good point. Same thing happened to Chris Broderick switching from Ibanez to Jackson; you hear him call Jackson "the company that could." And the unique features of his guitar are commercially available as well. There are many examples of LA custom shop guitars and/or features being only available for artists which is a real shame.
Jazzmaster hands down for me
I’ve got an old Ibanez mick Thomson model. It’s fairly similar to his Jackson. Very good for recording metal.
And I love you mentioned Zakk Wylde it seems as though people forget about the poor guy
I like them both but I have a Jackson Soloist and Strat. So I went with Jims because it's almost like a fusion between the 2, Jim's is my .12 gauge dedicated low tuning metal guitar / Soloist is my 80's thrash metal with .10's and my Strat is my Jimi/RHCP guitar with .10's. I would of went with Micks but my only turn off was having no inlays.
Very respectable opinion. I have a soft spot for the 80's super strat. Charvel's catch my eye in that way.
Your headbanging said it all
Nice vid dude. Did you file your Jazzmaster's nut to make it work with heavier gauge to play the drop B?
No filing. However, I like the strings on the lighter side to avoid some low end, so I am only running 10-52's.
@@TheBedroomGuitarist1 got it. Thanks!
I have the Jackson Pro. Got it from Sweetwater. No case, bought for $180.00 extra (Very nice Jackson case) also from sweetwater. as far as what it came with. 5 allen keys, truss rod cover with Mick Thompson's signature, 1 Jackson tag with a free lesson.and a Sweetwater inspection card.
I love it tuned down to drop B. Sounds insane!
That is very good information. Thank you for sharing!
Dude you fuggin STOLE that thing!
I don’t have that ping on my Jackson mick sig, Mines in black. It’s my favorite guitar even though I have a Schecter that is more expensive. IMO Jackson’s=GOAT metal guitars.
What do the di tracks look like? Is there enough detail there for editing purposes?
Super Nice video!I bought mick thomson one last year it feels good, sounds great but the thing that bothers me a lot is that the head's color turns yellow after several months of use. It looks a little weird right now
The hell? I’ve had a white one for a year and a half..looks just like normal
You should try to get a Joe duplantier charvel and a Jim Root tele and shoot them out
I go with the Jackson, so cool design
His Ibanez is better looking (IMO)
I LOVE their artwork dude.
Some of those Ibanez look SO damn amazing.
Like ur work on video. I like both guitarists in Slipknot but would go with Jim Root guitar due to his style of of guitars match what I like . Less is simple an old fashioned guitar styles are awesome. Hope to own one someday soon an got to meet him during the Stone Sour tour when Get Inside an Bother came out talked about music for 5 min an didn’t know he was from Slipknot cause I never seen him without a mask lol nice dude though.
I prefer micks signature set. I have guitars with blackouts, emgs, and Fishman and I prefer seymour duncan blackout sets to emgs but fishman fluence moderns are my favorite active pickups.
Omg this man had me dead with dethklok😂
I’m definitely gonna get both guitars the fender in black the Jackson still white
I’d do the opposite with the colours, since I already own I white Jackson guitar
when you're doing the pick up demo. you need to AB the guitars for each cab set up. Not all one guitar then the other. you can't tell the difference that way. I'd say re-edit the video so its ab.
I got an alan key set with my mick sig
I like the white guitar
Mate, I just bought the Jackson in Australia and it literally came with nothing like you say. Just guitar with strings and not a single other thing.
Did you buy the made in Indonesia one or the American one?
Holy Jim Halpert
John Kransinski knows his guitars!
You look like your name is Earl
thing is, i kinda have the slipknot guitars. I have a strat and an ibanez. i really think micks guitars look really badass, but Jim does metal, on 'non metal' guitars?!
Mick's guitars are nice and a basic strat body is all I need haha his ibanez were awesome too
I’m a Jackson guy through and through
Amen to that! But Fender owns Jackson which lets me cheat a little bit.
The Bedroom Guitarist I just can’t seem to like the head sticks but if I were to own any telecaster it would be 1 of Jim’s
Yes jacksons forever fender
Jazzmaster with EVH5150 sound great.......
Are you the dad from the movie a quiet place?
I kinda like the Jazzmaster‘s sound more
Are these 25.5" scale?
Yes. Both guitars are 25.5"
Why mick's guitar look so big to this guy meanwhile the guitar look so small when mick hold it?
It’s because Mick is 6”4 or something like that. It looks small on him because he is so big.
where is the orange?
you need an orange to gett the slipknot magic
Mick uses an omega obsidian tho.
My Jackson came with some alan keys.. maybe I got lucky
We'll that's your problem. You bought it at guitar center. No one should ever buy a guitar there unless it's absolutely necessary, and it rarely is.
The situation was, the guitar was sold out online for the major US retailers but the Las Vegas GC still had a floor model. I could defend GC and say they are still the most abundant/convenient brick and mortar music store across the US; however, it is my opinion they are getting increasingly sloppy especially for the specialty items. I just wish I lived closer to the boutique guitar shops that keep me coming back with their inventory and customer service.
If youve been to the San Francisco guitar center, its probably the best one, customer service was amazing. If you wanted you could buy the guitar there, leave it with them and they send it in a case.
Hahahahahah guitar center guitars they never take care of thr instruments
Is no one gonna mention how much this guy looks like Jay Weinburg?
lol I am going to take that as a compliment.. wait... with or without the mask?
@@TheBedroomGuitarist1 without😂
the Jim Root has no battery cover because he switched to a passive pickup in his new line that you have there!
Wrong. Jim uses his own signature retro active pickups from emg.
The Jazzmaster sounds way better IMO
Omg it's John Krasinski
Seymour duncan the best
Micks Jackson has more output
I'm looking for money HAHA
Jim's guitar sounds way better
Those Jim Root pickups are passive, but great video
Retro active so you ain’t wrong**
Plot twist: they're all owned by Fender
What does that matter?
The pickups in the jazzmaster suck
Holy crap, I thought John Krasinski had a guitar channel, You. Look. Just. Like. Him. Lol
Cool video, though. :)
Gaddamnit maybe play your guitars first Im already tulired of skippin your talkin
Lol
Comparison should be a 1300 difference at actually buy rate. Look at the meme, I can make it 1300. Less or 100 less on just because of the meme; bull shit!!
I'm sorry, but I could never pay $1400 for an instrument made in Mexico.... period.
