Composer Craig Hella Johnson, one of today’s most influential choral conductors in the USA, explains the origin of this beautiful new anthem:
This arrangement was created for concerts in which we explored the rich territory found on the borders between what we have traditionally called sacred and secular music and between classical and popular music. When we set the lines of Amanda McBroom’s timeless song next to the pristine beauty of the “Lo, How a Rose” chorale tune, it felt like a special discovery.
