I want you to know that I really watched this today and made it work for me! I was applying circles to street courts. Although, cumbersome, it’s faster than digitizing each one!!!
I’m glad you were able to save some time. You ought to check out part two. I found a way to get attributes to get pasted if the fields don’t match exactly.
Thanks for watching Matt! It has frustrated many people that Ctrl + V hasn't worked. It sounds like it was too hard to determine what had focus so they had to add the "Paste Special" mode.
Got it! Thanks chops! You hit the key points that others didn't quite capture in the other videos. Thank you for the content and the fun video with humor clips :)
Oh man, this is one of my early vids - I’m kind of embarrassed by it. I’m thinking of redoing it. Did you watch the part 2 video talking about field mapping?
Watch for a follow up video. I learned something in the Esri forums about copying and pasting features that helps attributes from the source layer make the trip to the target layer - even when the field types are different. Here's a link to that video - ua-cam.com/video/TJN43rwM8CU/v-deo.html
My target layer, which is a file geodatabase, is in my Contents pane but it does not show up as a Layer in the Paste Special pop-up window. Very frustrating.
A file geodatabase wouldn’t show up in the paste special dialog, it needs to be a feature class. You might try the feature class to feature class tool. That will export t he selected features to your file geodatabase.
Dear Mr. Chops, I have a problem that bothers me almost daily. Perhaps you can offer me a simple fix for turning off the insert in layout. Once I insert something the insert stays on until I reboot. Very frustrating. What I have learned is to do all my inserting at once, then reboot to adjust the items I added. If I don’t reboot, I end up adding several of the things I most recently inserted. Thanks in advance, V
V, sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Are you talking about inserting map surrounds - north arrows, scale bars, text elements, etc? I was unable to duplicate what you are experiencing. Are you running the latest version?
I think that was a toggle in a drop menu in layouts. In case anyone else is pulling out their hair. I was pushing buttons, and didn’t realize what that one did, and promptly forgot.
Speaking of button pushing, recently, in a search for tools, as my director requested, I pushed a button to work offline, then went about my merry way. What could go wrong? Well this happened: I had told it I wanted to stay signed in. But it began acting screwy. I managed to destroy a shape-file. Then I did the old control-alt-delete chestnut. Guess what happened? I created some kind of loop, and I couldn’t open the program to un-tic that box to work offline. I’m sure you can imagine the difficulty I had convincing the local admin that I had a problem. They finally had to get ESRI to reset my license. But it’s fixed. Don’t play with the work-off-line toggle, and if you do, don’t have yourself signed in. It’s serious.
There is the attribute transfer tool that adheres to the field mapping setting I demonstrated in my Copy and Paste Part 2 video, with that you have to click the source feature then the target feature. If you have lots of features you need to do at once, you need to do a table join or spatial join, then you can calculate the field.

It’s a super good time for refreshers like this if people are looking for work and need to brush up on things!
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the Tool Belt Tuesday idea. Tomorrow’s edition drops at 10am mountain time.
Good stuff, good stuff! Love a good Friends reference!
Joey is the best!
Find out this video long time all your videos are so helpful brother, so much thanks.
Thanks!
Ctrl+V not working always frustrated me. Glad to find out there is a new shortcut that will work. Thanks for these great videos!

Loving the content for ARC GIS Pro, excited for more videos. I’ve actually been to some of those map icons in Copenhagen!
Very cool map.
Nice content! One thing I'd like a tutorial on as a new GIS person is how to find, select, and use US census data from the census bureau web site.
I'll get that in the production schedule. Thanks for the suggestion.
I never knew all these uses for copying and also pasting!!!
If you’re going to copy, you really should follow it up by pasting.

Is your target layer editable and turned on?

That’s a bummer it took that much to fix it.
is it possible to copy just one column from the attribute table of one layer to another layer?
