      My collection is steadily growing. I have several great artifacts that I've found in the 8 years I have been at it. Including the Hardin you see as my profile pic. Plus a Godar that shy of 5", several great looking Daltons, Searcy, Rice Lobbed, and birdies. Thought about making some Shorts from my past trips to show my audience 🤔

      @@PtownRockhound I am not into the hobby. I live in BC and the glaciers got rid of most artifacts here. So, I do not know the names you refer to, but it is nice to see someone passionate and respectful doing what they love. To find a celt like the ones you find around here would be rare indeed.

    I remember finding beautiful points and the thrill/rush when I found them.

    A great point at 6:00. As you said, the one side was used more than the other and it was resharpened as to make the point no longer symmetrical. Great material as well, looks Like Carter Cave from KY but likely from a closer source. At 9:20, it sure looks like a paleo, maybe an unfluted Clovis? The first round rock I believe is a nutting stone. They usually have dimples on both sides!

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  2 роки тому

      I'm not a fan of the term "nutting stone". I referenced them as a "anvil stone" used in bipolar percussion knapping. There are several videos on UA-cam that explains and show how they were used.. Nutting stone to me makes no sense. It would require to much work individually breaking apart a single nut one at a time. That's my thoughts on the last stone picked up in thos video.

    • @howardfreeland5595
      @howardfreeland5595 2 роки тому

      @@PtownRockhound Have you ever broken a hickory nut or a walnut? As a child, I broke hickory nuts on a sidewalk with a hammer. That's how hard they are to break. The same goes for walnuts! My nutting stone perfectly fits a hickory nut on one side and a walnut on the opposite side. Nuts were one of the ancient's food sources and they would do whatever needed to get the meat out of the shell. I 100% disagree with you about nutting stones. Maybe your stone anvils are different or had multiple uses!

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  2 роки тому

      That could be the case that the stone was used for multiple purposes I just don't see it being beneficial considering how time-consuming it would take to make a substantial amount of food to survive on.

    Thirty years ago I was living in the little town of Beatty NV... Out in the middle of nowhere... Right on the edge of Death Valley national monument...
    A friend and I were walking around the desert outside of the town and the ground was covered in flint chips from the old Native American people who used to inhabit the area until they found gold.... The Natives all left because of the thousands of white men who came to dig... There's nothing there anymore except for a few stone walls and the front of the Rhyolite bank.... Anyway,we were looking down at the desert wash and I actually found an arrow head... The only one I ever found... Left Beatty in about 1984 and have no interest in returning...
    There's deep vertical shafts all over the place and people who didn't know they're there have sadly lost their lives in those shafts... No warning signs or barbed wire around the pits... Forty years later, maybe they have put up fences and warning signs.... The one thing I remember about my two years there, people were dying all the time.....Car wrecks, accidents and the occasional snakebite... Place was crawling with snakes scorpions tarantulas,etc... After dark was their time...

    Are the artifacts worth anything if broken or chipped ? I would assume no but great to find if one is a collector/hobbyist !!! If you find several together do you set up shop and shovel and sift through shoveled material say for 4 or 5 hours to increase your odds of finding a cache burial of sorts ?

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  2 роки тому +1

      Me personally, I don't think of artifacts as having a certain face value. Grant it that a broken one won't be worth much if sold though. If I'm in a small ditch, ravine I have and will sift around to increase my odds of finding more. I have yet to find a "cache". But have found several in a small location. Best wishes

      @@PtownRockhound So is it true that most Indian tribes or groups of Indians bury their hardware before moving on to richer hunting grounds or safer grounds for sustainable living ?

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  2 роки тому +1

      I don't know about burying items. But it would make sense just like we do today and store items in a "safe location" for future use. And the term "Indians" needs to be done away with. EVERYONE knows by now that this wasn't India that was discovered and the term that earlier settlers deamed the natives hundreds of years ago has been tainted. Native American, First Nation, or Indigenous is a much better term.

    I’d like to try and do this. I’m in MO as well…Lees Summit area. How do you go about picking spots to search?

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  Рік тому +1

      Good place to start is springs. Find one that's near a year flowing creek or river. High grounds near springs are also good spots to poke around.
      Or start be finding a field that produces. That way you get a feel for what to look for. Easier to look also. Thanks for stopping by. Pleased stay a while!

    What is the value of Indian artifacts if any. I have a river property and have been discovering Indian cutting tools with flint rock having sharp edges an smooth finger surface areas including what I think might be broken pieces of pottery. Curious if these finds are worth any monetary value??

    • @PtownRockhound
      @PtownRockhound  2 роки тому +1

      They can be. And it's whatever the buyer is willing to pay. I never like to value the artifacts even though that's what a lot from society like do to make sense of importance. If it's broken it'll be worth next to nothing. Same with pottery shards. Infact I usually give pottery shards away as a thank you. Sentimental value is worth so much more. Have a great day Rene.

      SWMO is a great location. Infact the whole state is pretty much good! So focusing on a particular area is irrelevant. If your passion is real and strong then it's only a matter of time before you find your 1st. Then it just gets easier from there after. Good luck and best wishes.
