Sadly no, if that would be true, you would not see so many CLEARLY adult AND also clearly dumb idiots in Internet, let me give some examples: - people arguing about democrats/republicans bad and crazy - coomers trying to "flirt" with random 12 yos on Adsbook - people engaging in clever conspiracy theories discussion There is absolutely no way kids would be interested enough to engage in those topics. Kids are interested in games, technology, school, movies and basically basic stuff. There is no way any child would be argumenting why Trump is the best president ever or why the vaccines are dangerous. Maybe few kids would find it funny to troll but the majority is still just dumb adults without any media literacy. Probably any kind of literacy sadly. I know it feels weird because "but I don't know anyone like that" yeah true, you could not know because of the "bubble" effect. Dumb people do not spend time with smart people in real life because of obvious reasons, same as same dumb people do not click on this video for example, their youtube probably contains "funny" videos or stuff you get when you are like "uhh I just watch something" People in this UA-cam "region" are, well, I would like to call us/them smart but I try to not be so sure about being correct always. If you think about that, those dumb people are probably happier because they do not get depressed about things like dead internet theory or AI art destroying artists, I think that in 2024 seriously intentionally avoiding knowledge could actually turn better than being aware of everything. Not to mention, half of the stuff now needs to be checked if that is even true and not some crazy guy trying to force their "perspective" on the other people. In past days, you couldn't do that because well, you would just make a fool or insane person of yourself. Now because we are so nice and everyone can have his opinion, people do like that. Wow, I totally not expected that people given absolute freedom could use that to spread crazy theories or literally extremist ideologies because well, in some small corner of internet they are not crazy but actually wise person knowing the TRUTH. Let's see what happens in the 10-20 years, I think it is gonna be Adolf v 2.0 cus why not, he was probably misunderstood lol, already some people openly say bs like "science is actually kinda bad and I think that they know nothing more than me!" Sad.
There's a creator on the channel named ty knotts and I am subscribed to a couple of his channels. It just goes to show it is truly getting more and more difficult to tell between human and AI voices these days.
42:00 - there is no such thing as violet eyes, it was something that the internet invented for clickbait. The eye colour is indicated by variations of melanine placement in the iris, which is a trait coded by multiple genes, mostly in HERC and OCA family. The only real colours of eyes are brown, blue, green, and mixes between them. People with albinism have no melanine in their iris, so the blood vessles are sometimes visible, and people say it can resemble violet eyes, but in my life i’ve met 2 people with albinism and their eyes looked blue in all angles. So… yeah, violet eyes is poorly reaserched clickbait. (I’m a biotechnology student in bachelor year)

I feel like the disturbing part about these sorts of channels is that they can really appeal to a certain audience, for instance the ones that are supposed to act like they're talking to you personally. Many people love company (including me) and so are more likely to fall for these sorts of channels since it appeals to that part of our brain.

One of my friends not only does this but she helps a friend of her sell courses on how to. It's hard to not change my view of her as a person while she is basically scamming people out of 3k for a bullshit course
IDK about your friend but here in Brazil we have a lot of multi level market and pyramid schemes and the majority of people who join them legitimately have no idea what a sh!t business it is, given the benefit of the doubt you friend might not realize it's scam
Why would that not change your mind about them? You're just condoning it at that point... A bit more off-topic but that hedgehog video pissed me off lol The spines aren't actually that bad to handle, it's literally going to die, get over yourself and just touch it long enough to flip it onto the side of the pool instead of risking the time it takes to get an item to lift it instead -Sincerely, someone who owned a blind grumpy hedgehog who also pricked me a lot

The Britain's Got Talent one... I used to be obsessed with watching clips of Got Talent, and I especially loved magicians on the show. The Sacred Riana was an actual magician who won Asia's Got Talent and then went on both Britain and America's Got Talent. That Joe Rogan video felt like a barely passing 14 year old's English essay on a topic they do not care about that the teacher assigned to them lol. It's so freaking bad.
those channels with basically zero human input are especially dangerous when you consider that chatgpt is known to make things up and then defend those things when you confront it. so if there is absolutely no quality control (like with the ones in this video) it is very easy to have huge flaws and just factually wrong things in them, but chatgpt will make them sound sensible and researched.
Some people will do ANYTHING but actually get a job, hobby, personality or self identity. Must be sad to have nothing going on in your life but becoming a cash cow. Gov should remove AI from the public honestly.
Are they also getting a bunch of "AI" accounts to "watch" their garbage videos and leave automated messages to pump up their numbers? Is this the new "infinite money glitch"?
The dog thing is somewhat correct. I distinctly recognize content I have seen on Eons and other channels, so it's content recycling again. The dog thing is mostly due to megafauna receding and Panthera simply outcompeting other Carnivora big time during the post glacial. Cats are the most efficient murder machines nature has to this date designed and dogs (both and bears evolved from the same lineage) simply were pushed into other niches as did other Felis species.
just like NFTs, MLMs, and drop-shipping, any money that can be made has already been made by someone else. now, the money is in getting people to pay an entry fee into an already flooded market.
What are the chances this channel didn't stage that hedgehog in the pool by putting it in there on purpose as opposed to actually seeing that happen irl by someone associated to this channel and capturing it on camera before saving it...?
Dunno about that video - small animals ending up stuck in pools is pretty common, and the video was just stolen from someone else. Still has the classic problem of "just put the phone down and help the damn creature" either way though : /
Joinen: "... and if I say that you have to drink 23 cups of hibiscus tea, I know what I'm talking about..." Me, casually sipping on my second 500 ml cup of hibiscus tea for the day: "Okay..."
sometimes I forget we live in different states so I got confused when the video said "21 minutes ago, and it's literally like 3:00 am rn where I live lol.."
When it comes to kid’s content in general, I feel they deserve better. People treat kids as gullible idiots and think they do not need to put in work to give them good films, content, or tv shows. They need to stop being treated like they are idiots when they are not.
UA-cam should allow us to report videos and channels for heavy/blatant usage of AI. Creators should also be required to inform viewers if they use AI and how its used in the content creation process. AI can be a powerful tool. We should be using AI to do the impossible, not to become lazy by having AI do what is already possible.
40:52 I think what they were trying to talk about here was Tetrachromacy. Basically means you have additional cone cells in your eyes that allow you to see in very punchy colors. In humans it's mostly found in women who are carriers of colorblindness.
I literally got an ad offering to turn your video content into an AI ghost channel before this video played. It was so weird hearing it being described just after it happened. Clearly they know this is where the audience is lmao.
these people seem to lack the ability to understand the fundamental concept that some people care about what they do. that some people spend 7+ a day doing something because they enjoy doing that thing. youtubers aren't ignorantly slaving away, not knowing they could make more money doing something different. they just... like making videos
I guess it's not exactly a *problem* if people are making bad AI content, or lazy content ripping off popular characters, as long as it isn't harmful. But man does it make me feel glum. I do think AI could be a great tool for editing and stuff, but why should I want to watch content that nobody even wanted to make?
Just got to the old lady lingerie page actually, and watching Joinen get increasingly more distressed while saying "That's not a blazer. There is no necklace" is actually peak comedy.
Ai is always harmful, it destroys the planet because it runs on our resources way faster than a person, and now that there are so many channels who use ai generated content that it is becoming much more harmful
Tbh I always report these types of channels either under scams or misinformation cause often they have info that's wildly false and/or fall into spamming/scamming by flooding the platform with slop
The documents one is ridiculous because I just don't see how an adult, with the ability to tell what's happening in real life apart from what's happening on screen, would say 'No' in response to seeing some clip art of a dog and some documents and being told the dog will eat the documents... A kid might fall for that but, as you said, wouldn't have any documents.
Yeah, authenticity is such a big thing, there's a reason so many channels basically die after a controversy reveals they were actually nothing like the person on the screen. There's a reason popular youtuber deaths leave complete strangers mourning for over a year after sometimes. There's a reason videos with low energy are more engaging for most mature people than that like youtube kids minecraft/among us/ect energy
The hedgehog video was 100% faked. Hedgehog quills are pretty blunt. I had several encounters with hedgehogs when I was a kid, I petted them and picked them up. Never did their quills even get close to breaking my skin. The reaction of the girl is faked. You could easily pick up a hedgehog with your bare hands. Which means the whole video is staged. Some [youtube] put that hedgehog in the water, which, being a pool, is probably chlorinated, and then purposely delayed getting it back out to fake pain on touching that hedgehog and get a dustbin for no reason. Hedgehog quills are enough to hurt the nose of a like a dog or something, but a human hand? You'd have to squeeze down pretty hard to feel any pain.

The worst: film "recaps" -- AI recaps are like volunteering for several lobotomies in a row.
The comments on these ai generated videos make me lose faith in the media literacy of the people
You can only have so much media literacy at 9 yo tbh. All those comments are literal children pretending to be adults, no worries
Some of them are probably also bots
I will say a lot of the comments are likely botted or ai generated. Wouldn't be surprised if they payed for fake engagement
Sadly no, if that would be true, you would not see so many CLEARLY adult AND also clearly dumb idiots in Internet, let me give some examples:
- people arguing about democrats/republicans bad and crazy
- coomers trying to "flirt" with random 12 yos on Adsbook
- people engaging in clever conspiracy theories discussion
There is absolutely no way kids would be interested enough to engage in those topics. Dumb people do not spend time with smart people in real life because of obvious reasons, same as same dumb people do not click on this video for example, their youtube probably contains "funny" videos or stuff you get when you are like "uhh I just watch something"
People in this UA-cam "region" are, well, I would like to call us/them smart but I try to not be so sure about being correct always.
Let's see what happens in the 10-20 years, I think it is gonna be Adolf v 2.0 cus why not, he was probably misunderstood lol, already some people openly say bs like "science is actually kinda bad and I think that they know nothing more than me!"
Sad.
These people have always exist, especially if they're kids
There's a creator on the channel named ty knotts and I am subscribed to a couple of his channels. Before he showed his face, I was convinced he was an AI; so much so that I told him in a comment in a face reveal video and he had a good chuckle over it.
(I’m a biotechnology student in bachelor year)
Thanks Joinen for proving that the 'Dead Internet Theory' is true in 2024.
There is so much inherent comedy in a spiderman video where he doesn't talk but does breath heavily over a bit of light jogging lol
48:22 No, that is actually AI. I use the exact same voice to read out stories that I fall asleep to at night.
Idk why but the "don't say no" challenge is very.... weird and ick to me. Especially since its targeted towards kids. Like i dont like the idea of teaching or encouraging children to "not say no" as a challenge. Kids should say no! And often!!
Depends on the kid. Some of them have it as their favourite word 😂
"Like and subscribe unless you hate your mother and never want to see her again!" Me, with an abusive mother that's in my life way too much: PLEASE!!!!
I saw Bob, I CANT stop seeing Bob. Everywhere I go, I see his face. Please... how do I make it stop.
I feel like the disturbing part about these sorts of channels is that they can really appeal to a certain audience, for instance the ones that are supposed to act like they're talking to you personally. Many people love company (including me) and so are more likely to fall for these sorts of channels since it appeals to that part of our brain.
Turning into Joinen Nicholson here with the long-form deep dive format.
Edit: Please don't take this as a complaint, because it isn't. I liked this video a lot. Some variety in types and length of content would be fine with me.
7:39 are people actually turning their noses up at 4K a month consistently for 10 years for making UA-cam videos in your 20’s??? Guys… take it from me, over 40 and working at my 9 to 5 for over 10 years, I have never been close to seeing 4K a month and I would consider myself to live rather comfortably.
It's kind of sad. When the only thing important to you is "big money number", nothing else matters and that number will never be high enough
Thats what happens if materials became god to them
One of my friends not only does this but she helps a friend of her sell courses on how to.
I feel like that is a valid reason to change your view on a person TBH.
Why would that not change your mind about them? You're just condoning it at that point...
If MY friends thought I was doing something immoral, but never said anything, I wouldn't want to be friends with them any more. I only want friends who are willing to call out bad behaviour regardless of who it is coming from.
@kezia8027 I called her out but she said she is not pushing people to spend money on these courses. She says that if someone tries their best they will be able to make money because of these courses. I think that's bullshit but she truly cannot seem to comprehend how wrong it is
@@Crochet_by_mic Reminds me of my high school friend that got swept up by an MLM 😬
WOAH AN HOUR AND FOURTY FIVE MINUTES??? JOINEN THE HELL 😭
And to be fair.. I watched/enjoyed every min of this long form content 😂
lowkey my theory about the words and emojis popping up right in the middle of the screen is so you can't even screenshot and reverse image search to find the original source.
A bit more off-topic but that hedgehog video pissed me off lol The spines aren't actually that bad to handle, it's literally going to die, get over yourself and just touch it long enough to flip it onto the side of the pool instead of risking the time it takes to get an item to lift it instead
-Sincerely, someone who owned a blind grumpy hedgehog who also pricked me a lot
Personally I'd be worried about getting bit by any wild mammal - rabies is rare but I'm never gonna take the chance - but like they kept trying to pick it up with only one hand?? Because they Had to keep holding the phone to keep recording of course. Get the shovel, help the hedgehog out, and leave the damn phone in the house. ugh lol
Wow! This was really well done. When I saw the length I was like “oh this will take me a few days to get through” nah I got through it in one sitting and none of it dragged. I was actually really sad when it was over and surprised how quickly it went.
I got into a fight with my mother today because these channels are litterallt all she watches. She wanted me to watch a 20 minute completly AI generated video about sinpsons predictions that came true and it was so bad i just couldnt sit through it
Worth mentioning that the “why are there no big canines” video is plagiarized word for word from a quora post. You can find it pretty easily. not even ai generated, they yoinked someone’s actual writing lol
"If you don't subscribe right now, you will have bad luck for a million years" reminds me of email/text chains ...... anyone? .... lol (nvm Joinen just said it right after I typed this comment)
no but i hate these things. i have friends that get anxiety over those "repost if you are against/in support of [blank], I can see who skips" and like they're in a similar vein where it plays with an extremely human anxiety. and they don't help anybody except for the ppl who posted them so they can profit from it!! they genuinely suck sooo bad
The "don't say no" would be the funniest thing if I was a kid.
I’m glad Joinens here.. his laughter makes me feel like I’m ok
The Britain's Got Talent one... I used to be obsessed with watching clips of Got Talent, and I especially loved magicians on the show. The Sacred Riana was an actual magician who won Asia's Got Talent and then went on both Britain and America's Got Talent. She has this motif of doing magic with a creepy horror vibe to it, I loved her clips so much
That Joe Rogan video felt like a barely passing 14 year old's English essay on a topic they do not care about that the teacher assigned to them lol. It's so freaking bad.
those channels with basically zero human input are especially dangerous when you consider that chatgpt is known to make things up and then defend those things when you confront it. so if there is absolutely no quality control (like with the ones in this video) it is very easy to have huge flaws and just factually wrong things in them, but chatgpt will make them sound sensible and researched.
it would be so nice if youtube added a policy that if you can show ONE shorts vid is stolen content they delete the entire channel
Almost two hour long video essay recommended only three hours after upload? This is gonna be good
just like NFTs, MLMs, and drop-shipping, any money that can be made has already been made by someone else. now, the money is in getting people to pay an entry fee into an already flooded market.
we're here for the kidneys
What are the chances this channel didn't stage that hedgehog in the pool by putting it in there on purpose as opposed to actually seeing that happen irl by someone associated to this channel and capturing it on camera before saving it...?
Dunno about that video - small animals ending up stuck in pools is pretty common, and the video was just stolen from someone else. Still has the classic problem of "just put the phone down and help the damn creature" either way though : /
Joinen: "... and if I say that you have to drink 23 cups of hibiscus tea, I know what I'm talking about..."
Me, casually sipping on my second 500 ml cup of hibiscus tea for the day: "Okay..."
sometimes I forget we live in different states so I got confused when the video said "21 minutes ago, and it's literally like 3:00 am rn where I live lol.."
5am for me
Different states?
You mean a different country as him?
oh LOL yeah i meant country
I avoid those channels as soon as I've identified them. They might fool me for a minute but I'll cut that off the moment I realize it.
Jokes on the don't say cute video, I say 'baby!' when i see little cute animals
And I thought 5 min crafts and troomtroom shit was already the pinnacle of youtube slop after the prank/vlog shittery
Love when every now and again humans reinvent MLM schemes
When it comes to kid’s content in general, I feel they deserve better. People treat kids as gullible idiots and think they do not need to put in work to give them good films, content, or tv shows.
They need to stop being treated like they are idiots when they are not.
I love this faceful channel.
Joinen I think you need merch that says “would you like to have some broccoli?”
This is very odd topic, but I feel the need to say that Joinen’s smile is contagious, it’s one of the most genuine smiles I’ve ever seen
So glad to have you back Joinen!
It's weird that we went from how to make money on UA-cam tweets to watching ai old women in lingerie. 😂😂
When you put it like that it seems like a very expected transition lol
I’ve just reached the part of the video about big dogs, and scrolling through the comments to read that made me actually choke on my custard- wHAT
I actually hate my mom so the "if you don't like or subscribe you hate your mom" is so fucking funny to me lol.
42:00 Alexandria's Genesis strikes again
yessssss i love ppl calling out this AI bs. thank you joinen!
I have seen this kind of AI fueled channels pop up in true crime too!
40:52 I think what they were trying to talk about here was Tetrachromacy. Basically means you have additional cone cells in your eyes that allow you to see in very punchy colors. In humans it's mostly found in women who are carriers of colorblindness.
Love this. I really enjoy longer content and fully appreciate the work that goes into it. Thank you Joinen
"When is he gonna talk about ghost channels?"
(Realizes he's talking about channels made with AI)
"Oh... Those type of channels."
Someone: Where's my ice cream?
Zelura: I ated it because u didn't subside >:(
Tbh I always report these types of channels either under scams or misinformation cause often they have info that's wildly false and/or fall into spamming/scamming by flooding the platform with slop
It’s so horrible how we really can’t tell what is real anymore :(
Joinen! I haven't watched your stuff in 4 years, I'm so glad to see that you're still around and doing well for yourself!
"We're really doubIing down on the mother thing"
Thanks, Joinen
Joinen, you overestimate the Christian right here in the USA… they eat stuff like this up.
No.
He overestimates your mother.
Me with an abusive mother I left years ago. Bold of them to assume I'd like it for that reason.
Dude, I can’t remember the last time I sat through a movie as long as your video! You’re freaking hilarious! Have you seen any of the sneaky Elsagate-esque channels that have popped up? I’d love to see you do a video tearing these channels apart. Thanks for being an entertaining creator!
Joinen’s laugh is one of my favorite sounds. 😊 can’t get enough of it.
Almost two hours of pure joy. I need more content like this!
It's like he described those Fembots from Austin Powers. They were popping up everywhere, even a mock of Britney Spears was a Fembot.
@1:26:38 -- You asked, "...If anybody knows what this channel is about, please let me know"...
The answer is in the description you read when you first began discussing this channel: (paraphrased) "... we are a group of students in the entertainment industry..." -- they are likely just a group of students barely into their first semester of learning about everything Adobe, specifically compositng in Adobe After Effects -- I would say it's more a just for fun and practice...
Soo they really are looking down at People who wanna work and do something they love..."YEA LOOK AT THE LOSERS WITH PASSIONS LOL"
"The Average Joe... Haley actually..." and WHO was the star of the 2001 film AI?
HALEY JOEl OSMENT
COINCIDENCE? I think not
They don't get me. Chronic command avoidance. I'm immune. Really angry, though, that this exploitative vileness is proliferating. Angry on behalf of the people that get absorbed by it.
ive encountered one of these channels in the wild. it took me about 2 videos in to realize why it felt so...uncanny.
If the youtube video advice actually worked to make money they wouldn't be selling it, they'd be making money doing it.
Joinen video essay arc? Finally. I've been waiting for this since the banana video
Even if I find myself liking an AI video, I still block them cause they are everywhere now.
Been pointing this out for 3 years in comments. Been to comment jail a lot, not saying there's a correlation.
Anyway it's nice we can talk about this now
Okay, the Spider-Man thing was shit, but they were actually creating something, right?
Swedish Australian American. Final answer
"They are like cryptobros but instead it's youtube videos that offer no real value" LMAO
