I hate when people call tofu a meat substitute. "A cheap alternative to meat" it's not supposed to be meat. It is a whole entire other thing
Yeah, it's its own thing. I'd say it's close to cheese, but not meat by any means
No, but an entire generation of food producers started “catering” to vegetarians and vegans, back in the 90s. They did this by replacing every animal-based protein with soy.
@CynthiaPrice79 When tofu is marketed as a meat substitute it gets under my skin. It turns people who do eat meat off of ever trying tofu, because they hate vegans so much
Tofu is delicious. And I’m not a vegetarian or a vegan. If you don’t know how to use tofu, then don’t buy it. It is meant to absorb the flavor of the dish, not add flavor to the dish like meat. It’s just a different protein.
It doesn't even give you the same nutrients as meat. You are right the meat substitute thing is a lie going back years maybe even over a decade or two. I'm just mad that this false belief of Tofu is one of the reasons why Soybean farms are being built on land that used to be parts of the rainforest, the last lungs keeping up alive
"I thought mozzarella had taste" its like the mildest cheese that exists what were they expecting?
That plus the flavor you usually get is from the stuff you bake (or cook) it with! (Mozzy sticks are superior)
Mozz is the hype man of whatever you're cooking it with. It has no flavor unless you give it flavor. 😂
I love the constrast of how genuinely mad Aussies get when they're not eating stuff that's 100% locally grown and then you have all my American friends who barely ever eat locally grown foods
Why does Australian-grown juice cost more in Australia? If I bought an imported apple juice in the US, I would 100% expect it to cost more than an American brand. Is it maybe that Australia’s apple market is smaller/not as widespread?
@daftoptimist procced foods are very cheap, most processed food are from either America orsomewhere in south or east asia
@daftoptimist because our processing costs are much higher.
Even a lot of our seafood is caught here, processed overseas and returned. They then label it "Product of Australia" with "processed in..." somewhere on the back in small writing.
Unfortunately :(
We Americans don’t trust locally grown produce. We tend to do most of our living locally and we’re absolutely miserable.
If foreign child labor can make a darn good iPhone, chances are they’ll fix us up a tasty salad as well.
@SmokeyChipOatley most food is grown in the us?
The funny thing is I work at woolies and the thing about the "Bunch" program. You get free products and you just have to leave a review for them (thats why it feels like theyre being forced to review them, you have to review the products to get more samples). its pretty cool but yeah, thats why so many of the reviews are just super short or repeat stuff. Oh yeah also the repeated first sentence, it asks you to make one sentence about the review and then write your review separately, but it formats them together. AND all the products are woolworths group
but it what??? lol
how does one get into the program? woolies own brand is fine
@@ashleywalker3813 It goes in rounds of when you can apply, and its currently closed. Just search up "woolworths bunch" and youll find the website
@ashleywalker3813 it sometimes takes years to be accepted. I think it took me 4 years. If you google "Woolworths Bunch", you should be able to sign up.
It sucks that it doesn't mark their review (like how a lot of places say up top "received this product for free"). Obviously not your fault, just a strange advertising choice since their "promoters" are basically saying not to buy their stuff lol
Some people are just dumb. I work at a small pettingzoo, and we got a one-star review because one of our cats was a bit feisty.. the cats are not part of the zoo 😅
I'm from the American Midwest and I'm so used to people saying, "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit," because the way we say "get" rhymes with "fit." So it throws me off hearing, "You get what you get and you don't get upset," after all these years lmao.
American living in the Northeast here, also a teacher. I say/hear "You get what you get and you don't get upset" so many times a week, it didn't faze me one bit. Interesting to hear that another American version exists!
I've lived in Ohio my whole life and I'm fully having a life crisis realizing after this comment that I indeed say "git" instead of "get". Does everyone else really say "get" with, like, an emphasized "e"?
@@forciaroandha9855Yes lol.
Fellow American midwesterner, our family saying was always “you get what you get and you don’t mind a bit” lol
@@forciaroandha9855PNW here, I’ve always heard “get what you get and don’t throw a fit” and it always made me mad because “get” didn’t rhyme with “fit”. Never thought about the folks in other areas who make it rhyme🤣I will now be using “don’t get upset” with my preschool class, I’m so happy there’s a version that actually rhymes
Little kid me could have never predicted the future of entertainment would be watching a guy ramble about subpar groceries
Aussie here and I may have an answer as to why people are reviewing things they wouldn't usually buy. A person came in at work and told us about a thing you can sign up to and they give you freebies and you review them. Apparently you get given more if you just accept everything. I found out about it because she came in and gave some spice thing to my coworker because she doesn't eat spicy food. 😅
Also apparently it has a several month wait list to get into the program so it must be pretty popular!
What is the program I love free shit and having opinions
@@Rose_Castle I don't remember the name but he said it in the video later on after I posted this! It's run by Woolworths
@@carrrlycrayon swoit
Damn - That Joinen Pizza Segment. You never know what you'll throw into the middle of a review!
That my friend is the best use of the phrase "skill issue" I've ever seen
Joinen uncovering a secret society program was wild but interesting
OMW how can you make such a pizza and not offer us. Mouth is watering. 1 star, looks great but cannot taste it.
one star reviews are a pretty reliable source of laughter and "wtf" thoughts, i never would have thought that someone would review groceries though! but honestly i kind of wish my local grocery store had product reviews, there are definitely some products I've tried that deserve an indignant one-star review lmao.
really enjoyed this video! i found your channel a year or so ago from your reaction videos, and this video is definitely a bit different from that content but still really good! love that you literally made a pizza in the middle of the video, the dedication is amazing
Lmao this reminds me of German amazon reviews where they send questions per mail to random old people who don't realise it's automated and so the Q&A section is useless
Haha, the "this was a present for my granddaughter, do not contact me again" answers are my favourite
baking with Joinen when??? LMAO XD you should have a baking show man
Preferably in that style, straight to the point
I feel like the ice cream reviewers package thawed and refroze which would explain the chocolate falling off and the ice cream having ice chunks
i think that the nature of reviewing groceries means you'll only get 1 star reviews because it's unlikely someone will take the time to review something they are apathetic about or like compared to something they hated, people like to complain more then to compliment so perfectly fine things one or two people had a bad time with will be reviewed as terrible
really? i usually only take the time to review a product if it's something i really liked! my thought process there is that if i like the product that much, leaving a good review is a way to give a little boost to the company that makes it, plus it'll help other people find good products. sometimes I'll review really awful things too though, just not as often.
@@m0sspunk with grocery stores no one thinks about leaving a review because most people don't know or don't care, people are more likely to however if they signed up to a free sample review scheme like in most of these, or if they had a personal bad experience and want to warn others
Sorry to say that, but that sounds stupid, it's free stuff after all, those people are dumb & unthankful
They have to post a review to continue getting free products. Probably a lot of bad reviews because they're mad about having to go through the effort.
your channel is criminally underrated!! love the quality and editing
I wonder what he uses for editing
FYI, chocolate is bad for both birds and border collies.
watching Joinen before my corporate finances exam
Good luck!
That one person must be new to being poor. "Can't afford treats anymore. Got these for free. Weren't made of high-end chocolate and were just a tiny bit messy so I THREW THE WHOLE BOX AWAY!" Sir/ma'am/mx! What‽
"Seems like a skill issue to me" 😂👏 I loved that clap back.
omg do these people not know what mozzerella is for? Cheese like squishy mozz is meant ot be used on pizza or as a snack with some basil and stuff
Also reminds me of the subreddit ididnthaveeggs which collects recipe reviews lol
i love that subreddit
Grab the 1 star popcorn and treats! New Joinen vid dropped!!!
This Video auto-played and I thought it was an old Joinen Video. Then I was like, wait, I can't remember this one and then I saw, that it was new. Today is a good day.
Yes grocery stores where I am allow reviews and send products out to be reviewed. However, on the website they have to include that the review was collected as part of a promotion.
lol, "Went mouldy after 3 days" Yes, that's what bread does if it isn't full of preservatives! XD
Actually it shouldn't. My grand grand mother lived in very very rural part of country they bake their own bread every month for whole month like 30+ loafs just water salt and flour im not even sure she ever used yeast because fermentation always started by adding old piece of dough from previous batch so maybe she started it like in 1903. Nevertheless the bread was covered in homemade linen (she had massive handloom in attic) and never ever get mouldy only dry and hard. My hunch is today even with great artisanal no preservatives bread they probably use too much water because its easier to work the dough. Our had lowest possible hydration and was hard as rock and i have no idea how she was able do it all by hands only. Oh and it was baked in clay wood burning stove outside like straight from medieval times.
Cannot express how much I enjoyed this video. The dramatic readings, the cooking segments, the infinitely memeable final verdicts (it's just bread!). Excellent. Would buy again.
also, shelf stable clear apple juice is my comfort food lol. cold pressed juice is fine but i just love that shelf stable clear juice!
Damn that was a good looking pizza, and I'm normally a thin-crust chap.
This was the laugh I needed today. My favorite was the ice cream bar review. Mama/Sir… have never eaten a chocolate ice cream bar before? The chocolate ALWAYS falls off at the first bite. It’s cheating if you don’t get chocolate and/or ice cream on your shirt. 😂
My thoughts exactly, it happens almost everytime especially with drumsticks.
as a midwest american ex- cattle rancher and farmer , i love the support of local farmies in the Aussi community . we sold to the farmers market , which we had to pay to sell in and we only got ~60% of revenue from sells back . we didnt do it for the money , but when corn is in high demand , it used to be cheaper to buy corn from the farmers market .
80% of that stuff is fed to livestock, wouldn't it be way cheaper if we stopped breeding cows into existence and feeding all of them?
It sounds like these people are reviewing free samples provided by the manufacturer. It used to be /very/ common in the US to receive free samples in the mail. They’re seldom full-sized packages. Think travel sized.
Joinen, I love how much time and attention you’re putting into this new season!! Your commentary and insights are always wonderful, and your videos always make my day - keep it up!! 😊😊😊
Joinen 'i guess i should drink out of a glass'
Pulls out what is clearly a small vase
My husband used to work for their complaint call center, and he’d tell me about people calling up for these same kind of reasons. Still can’t believe people have the time in their day to call and leave scathing reviews on groceries because they thought it was a bit bland. Seriously, don’t buy it again then.
my mum is part of woolies bunch and all her reviews are like "yum tastes great" even when we havent even opened the food 😭
We definitely need more "Cooking with Joinen"
I 100% agree!!
I didn't know I needed some Joinen food reviews, but that was a fun one. Also... you go with your pizza cooking self!
Appreciations from New Zealand
I haven’t watched your channel in years I’m so thankful this popped up in my recommended and reminded me you exist 🥰
I feel like these people are expecting a luxurious gourmet product when it's a store brand. Store brand is supposed to be cheap and affordable. I think the low expectation is a given so that if you did find a hidden gem in these products, you would be pleasantly surprised.
Also as an Asian, tofu is a staple food for me along with other soy product - tempeh and soy milk primarily, but I guess not everyone likes it :) Best kind of tofu is the puffy one and that kind seems very rare in Australia - most Australian tofu here is either the hard one that doesn't absorb anything or the silken one that just falls apart.
Some of those reviews seem to come from people who do not know how to prepare something. Mozzarella ones seem to have been eating just... Well, raw ot undercooked mozza. Tofu ones probably didn't press their tofu.
That's what I was thinking. I came to love tofu once I made it at home myself...after simply googling how best to make tofu.
I've never cooked tofu, but I'd 100% try it and probably Google how to make it. I actually feel like that might be something I try this week. If y'all have any preparation suggestions, please, let me know. My husband and I love Japanese food and Indian food so if you want to recommend a good dish from either culture please feel free.
Joinen busting out the SKILLS!!!! And look at how beautiful that pizza is!!!
We call it duck cheese hehe
My non verbal baby brother when he first started to speak more (he’s never quiet now hehe) he asked to try the “duck cheese” 🤣
Never seen apple juice that red. Im used to drinking apple juice that looks like it piss from someone very dehydrated
Used to watch your channel a lot but then the algorithm stopped recommending it. Glad it finally brought me back to this channel
same here! i’m so upset :(
My man Joinen out here flexing them pizza skillz!
I love how different joinens videos are. Its nice to see something new on youtube instead of the same topic over and over ❤
iv found that if the juice does not stipulate where or what type of apples were used to make it there is typically a mix of different apples.
tofu is something you either like or you dont, i did try it as part of making my eating habits healthier the taste as fine but the texture was just a no.
good video
Not me drinking the same apple juice that’s in this video WHILE watching the video 😳
i have actually had the woolies AND coles brand butter chicken sauce-
definitely wasnt the best but not horrendous either (didnt corrode any of our cutlery either)
I'm not Australian, but I will say, butter chicken simmer sauce is very hit or miss. I usually buy a kit with all the necessary spices and just make my own.
That mozzarella is bomb. We call it the bomb because it is a little bomb. I am convinced these people are all used to hard mozzarella, probably blocks that are needing to be grated or come pre-grated in bags, which is the WORST way to have cheese.
I've seen so many reviews of foods and food outlets that are either crazy, or seem completely astroturfed by the company (or anti-astroturfed by a competitor) that these days I'm not sure if it's even worth looking at them.
I love your kitchen!!! You have so many cool things! The wooden lid for proofing the bread is so pretty! And so are your drinking glasses😍!
hii, i love ur videos :)) you have a great sense of humour and it's rly fun to watch
Who eats soggy cookies?
The perfect depiction of how people can be, already knew in theory, yet it still made my brain glitch 🙃
I'm giving these people a 1 star review... 😂
Need more Joinen reviews!! Absolutely loved this
My microwave has a fantastic popcorn button. It differentiates between three different common bag weights, and has sensors.
Same
I gotta say that pizza looks absolutely fabulous and it makes me want to make a pizza myself.
Watching 1-star review videos always proves to me that reviewers are absolutely unhinged and I should probably not put much faith in them
The only time I've been pissed off by a brand to the point of writing a review is with Bright Farms. There was mold both in my salad and in the SEALED little pack of bacon bits, and it took them nearly a month to send a "oops lol our bad here's a coupon that doesn't even match how much you paid for the moldy one:
half of these reviews are the equalivant of buying a kia and then complaining it isn't as luxurious as a rolls royce.
I really enjoy your videos, you can tell you've put a lot of effort and love into them!
Ahhh this was such a fun video, great to see your face around again Joinen!
I love when people over share in reviews, did we need to know that woman’s neighbor has two kids, a step kid and a boarder? Not really but to her it was integral to her review. People are so funny
Times are so tough he has to find a way to write groceries off taxes
Amazon has this. Hard to get in as far as I understand, I got kicked out of their discord I tricked someone into giving me the link lol
This is honestly fascinating. Really comes off like they're coming up with strong opinions in order to keep getting free stuff.
"the bag leaks butter. the butter doesn't taste like real butter. it has a natural butter flavor which doesn't taste natural" ok
I wonder how much of this is just buying spoiled products or like, leaving mozzarella in a hot car for 5 days before eating it.
Id love this vidio, but i have a question… who edits ur videos? Cuz they’re absolutley amazing! Or u just have realy good scripts for ur videos🧐 either way this was amazing 👌maybe some gacha BIGNO in the future tho????
I do! :)
Wow u have amazing edeting skills!!!
Btw what about the gacha BIGNO🤭
whoa tomatoes are acidic no way
I would appreciate the pizza recipe 😂
this was so much fun!!! i loved it! :-] such great camerawork too. youre awesome joinen!
Haven’t seen this guy in a while. Seems to have matured with his audience. Good content today.
The only people who review are the people who find a problem with the product, because no one usually goes out their way to review something good (In the food world)
"I put the popcorn in longer than the package said to and it got burnt. 1 star"
The hell is wrong with this person? How is it the popcorns fault that popcorn normally gives you bad instructions and you finally got good instructions and hated it?
Damn, this is the second place I've seen that Microwave Popcorn video referenced. Technology Connections did a good one.
I think the big takeaway from this is that people are WAY more critical of something if they don't have to pay for it.
The problem is that the internet has given people the ability to be complete a-holes without any repercussions and so we're seeing everyones true colors shining through.
Pretty sure the bread reviews are by Germans desperate to find some real bread and not toast
I've had a similar exspereance with Walmart reviews, like ton absolutely dragging products, but then when you try them they aren't bad. It's like they're exspecting fine dining at walmart and get upset when it's just nomal("peasant") food.
Great video :D
That pizza making montage was hubba hubba 😍
(7:30) Is it goat cheese?
Hit the popcorn button again for a bigger bag. They usually have settings. The first press of the button is for the half bags typically
People can be so dramatic in online reviews lol
I don’t know why, but when I review products online, I try my best to give it highest score possible.
Like veggies and greens can be a bit wilted sometimes and I remove 1 star out of 5. Some product might have unusual taste or just not be for me. I won’t remove any stars as long as product fresh and edible.
If product taste not good yeah, I might remove a star. A two if it bitter or toooooo salty when it’s not supposed to be that way.
Leaving 1 star review just because cookie is crumbly is a bit dramatic lol.
I think the way you cooked the popcorn may have actually saved it, stopping the popped corn before it burned while the kernals, which would have gathered all together extremely closely, would have stayed hot, and thus popped much better.
I really don't like tofu due to the texture. But the bread thing was hilarious
great video! :D
Yay Joinen!!
As a german them saying that sandwich toast bread is bland... Well toast barely qualifies as a real bread imo and no shit any toast tastes like that lol. Especially if eaten untoasted ofc
JOINEN IS BACKKK‼️‼️‼️‼️
Nice flex with the pizza ❤
My guess is they had to recall the butter chicken for some reason.
That pizza looks splendid
