I have had this set with the bottle bag for 7 years and I love it. I find that turning the wind screen part upside down, stove in the bottom and your small squar grill on top provides a much more efficient heat source to the pot.
I’ve been using the PF Bottle set since they were originally released. I have used them countless hours in the woods. I’ve cooked with it, carried water in it, and even used the bottle as a hot water heater and as a cold compress. I recommend them all the time. They make great gifts for outdoorsmen too.
The system has been absolutely perfected now with the stove adjustment and the bottle blanket which ties it all together. I also like using the multi-tool stand on that stove as well. It is probably my most used piece of gear. It always goes with me. I still have a couple of the old "Backpacker" slant style Guyot Design bottles from Nalgene from back in 2008 I believe. I have a couple of straight walled ones as well. I remember drilling holes in the rim to attach a bail and nesting with the GSI cup. We also painted the bottles with black stove paint to try and heat them faster lol. This set has come about through countless hours spent in the woods and should be at the heart of any kit.
Fantastic product. I go back and forth between this and the canteen set. I am planning to have a morning squirrel hunt tomorrow morning in fact, and it will look eerily similar to this. I greatly prefer this to my old Klean Kanteen/GSI cup combo because as the video points out, it's an engineered system that works well together, and you can't hardly ever beat that putting a hodgepodge of separate products together. Kudos to Dave and SRO for creating and continuing to develop and refine a product that sets the standard for what it does.
Other than it holding more, there isn't any difference between the gsi and pathfinder cup. Do I prefer the pathfinder cup? Absolutely! But I also prefer the Klean kanteen bottle because it holds 8 more ounces than the pathfinder bottle and still nests inside the pathfinder cup. So I have the best of both worlds
Bought the kit last year , one of the Best purchases ever. Was nice making a hot cup of coffee during buck season here in Pennsylvania. Then a cup of Lipton soup. Warmed pepperoni role wrapped up in tin foil on stove. Comfort level 10.
I like the bottle set but prefer using the pathfinder canteen cook set and plan on buying the pathfinder canteen cup with the Bat wing handles on it when Dave releases it this year
I have this bottle set with your new alcohol stove. My set also has the carrying case you designed. I appreciate how there is more space inside that you can work with whether you are just putting in a can of tuna or something else to eat while you out hiking. One thing that surprised me is the case that you show at the end of this video, which looks like a good case but I would have thought you would have developed something more like a gravity, filtration bag to use as a pre-filter. I’ve seen ones that you can scoop up the dirty water hang on a limb with a string that is attached and then just put your canteen or water bottle underneath to collect the water and then of course boil the water afterwards. That to me would’ve seemed like a better choice or at least a first choice in design for people who are interested in Bushcraft/survivalism. Love your products! And I will continue to support your videos and product line. So so much good information & I really appreciate you & what you teach us. Thanks!
@@tennesseeterri It’s not a new idea. I know the water in one of the lakes near me would definitely need to be pre-filtered before I would boil it to drink it.. the ones I’ve seen are generally canvas bags that you can hang from a tree on one side. Then the other side has an elongated end where the water will drip through into a canteen. One could easily be made that would fit right over this canteen set. I haven’t been on their website for a while, so maybe it’s even available. If not, it would be a great product for them to carry.
Yes, I remember when the canteenshop got the idea to add a grill on the canteen stove. He would put a strp of bacon or a small piece of steak on it and grill it. I still have it that really heavy duty grill canteen stove. I use the water bottle stove upside down with the trivet across it. It becomes a windscreen for the alcohol stove. The trivet becomes a rack to hold the cup over the flame. It works great with the large alcohol stove and also with the fuel cans like the sterno fuel cans. It's so multi-function and efficient. Thanks Dave for everything.
For about the past 5 years I have been using a combination of Pathfinder,(bottle set), Klean canteen, and Stanley for all camping cook ware. Pathfinder gear is great, but when my wife and 3 daughters take to the woods with me or their Girl Scout troop. It’s time to break out the large Stanley heavy bottom Base camp sets. Stay dry Dave, big storm just crossed the Ohio river here in Scioto county!
Yeah, I noticed that with that burner. I got the tall one. And it didn't work that well, so I put the stand up a little bit. I then bought the smaller burner. And works good.
I just bought my first bottle and cup set from SRO! I'm super excited about it. Ive wanted a set for years. I'm very likely to purchase the wool bottle Insulator after seeing how well it performs on this video, being able to hold the nesting cup and camping spoon as well! So cool David! Thank you.
Camped out last night in 11 degree F, a bit of snow. Used my Pathfinder reflective tarps, cooked a Cornish hen in my PM40, used the alcohol burner this morning with the two-piece stand that fits into to make my coffee. All excellent equipment.
Great bottle and cup set, I have two sets. And I wouldn't think of replacing them with any other brand. All of my packable outdoor cooking gear is Pathfinder brand and has always served me well. Thanks to Dave and family and to the folks at SRO. Happy New Year!
I received my Pathfinder French press and two bags of coffee. I tried the light roast already. Home run Dave! The coffee is FANTASTIC! And holy toledo, the French press works perfect! Amazing products sir!
If you’re able, I’d like to see the alcohol burner made in titanium. For anyone wondering, that pot stand works well with both a burner and twig fire. Works great for the wobbly Stanley adventure cup
Hey, I’m guessing it’s the TBS set? If so, how’s it holding up? I see they’re selling the 3 piece set for £45 plus postage on top. For the same price (£52) Amazon are selling the pathfinder version. Wondering which one to choose. I’d be using it with the Trangia.
My Pathfinder Stainless Steel Bottle Cook Set remains a piece of rock solid gear after all these years. Camp fire seasoned and always with me when I am in the woods. The Alcohol Stove is new to me, but I like the boil time.
Quit packing the coffee so tightly in the cloth you’ll get much better results if you leave it loose so that the hot water can get all around the coffee grounds
@DavidCanterbury It's cool, no doubt. But I think you nailed it with the original pack stove. Not criticism, just a data point. I have a couple of bottle kits, and I always grab the original. Though I do like the pocket on the newer bags.
The quality and function of this set really can't be beat. I have the original witht he bush pot, fish mouth spring and all that; the only failure has been the zipper on the top of thee MOLLE pouch it all came in, but it's still servicable.
i have the m40 and the bottle set with the old burner and i love mine its my edc weather in the woods or in the city it fits well in my waxed haversack and my sro spork you make the best equipment for the price thanks dave
I lived In a barn for 3 yrs here in WNY and I used this gear DAILY. It's been 2 yrs since then and my gear still works like the day I bought when it was 1st released!
I bought the PF meths burner when it first come out, I don't know whether they've improved them, but I wasn't too impressed with it, it needed to be filled to the brim to light, I stopped using it to be honest and got a brass one for half the price which works tons better. The bottle and cup on the other hand is a different matter, I bought the first addition when they come out and it's still going strong.👍🏻
I ordered the 32 oz pathfinder water bottle with cup it should be delivered this Friday i cant wait to get it ill have to get the stove later when i got the extra money hopefully won't take to long
This looks like great piece of kit, Dave. Am I mistaken, or is this alcohol burner actually shorter (perhaps wider) than the original? I seem to remember the earlier version to be a bit taller (which means heavier).
Perfect timing. Your PMF40 should be here today and I was looking into getting a stove for it since PF is sold out and was strongly considering a Trangia. But to get one in stainless with a little more capacity would be even better. And it was Nalgene that had a 32oz straight walled out back in the day. I think they're still selling in Canada. What I do is I have this old antique t-ball that I used to use for my coffee that way the ground stayed in the ball and you just rinse it out you have to get a t-ball that has Fine holes or screen material call my works good for many many cups of coffee probably forever if you take care of it
I have a question, I'm currently running the grayl geopress with the Pathfinder/grayl nesting cup....n wondering will that canteen cup stove nest with the grayl nesting cup.... That would make a great system.
I would be interested in a 2nd larger cup that nested that cup set inside of it. Something larger. Maybe similar in height to the bottle with enough room for the stove, the batwing handles, the lid and spoon to nest inside of it. That 3rd larger container in the basically the same real estate offers a lot more options in terms of multitasking and cooking more complex meal options, as well as easily accommodating a guest. I have the PFM40 and it has the basic fundamental issue of not being enough containers in a small enough space.
Not a fan of the stoves man. I'm not even sure I kept my bushpot one because the top gets warped and it doesn't cook that well in my opinion. I prefer an open top. I think old style canteens that have open top stoves that get hooked onto the canteen are better and lighter and I'd like an option like that from you to your stuff. Or have it modular by allowing to add a grill top and have it fully wind proof so you don't have to carry anything else. Other than that I love everything.
l have the older slightly taller Pathfinder alcohol burner. Can l just counter sink the older burner about 1/4 to 1/2 inch into the ground for more head space above and achieve the same result?
David i love the cup and bottle set and the concept with the stove.. but it take twice as long to boil then i take with other stove stands i sometimes use with the same alcohol stove, i used both Trangia and your new alcohol stove…ive made a few modifications to you bottle stand and it’s improved the boil time by alot. I would love to see a new version of this stand that could be used flipped up side down very similar to the BCB crusader bottle set either ver 1 or mrk 2 with the flip down bracket or something similar… and still be used as a twig burner. love to share my idea if your interested???
That's a shame. I got one of these back in the day (and still use it!) but it never came with the stove in the kit. Just the bottle, cup and pouch. I've always kept one of those flat-pack sheet metal stoves with it in the front pouch.
I bought the canteen set when it first came out years ago, but I've never been able to use it because the canteen has always leaked. I've purchased two replacement caps but it still leaks! Any suggestions?
Outstanding Outstanding Equipment as always , Some may try to copy it but pathfinder still stands out as the best. My equipment gets hard use on Scout camping, Take Care and Stay Safe Out There.
