What’s crazy is that Leo would mostly start the games in total advantage state. Than Sparg0 adapts and somehow brings it to an even game or even takes the first stock. Even though Leo’s my fav player I love watching these sets bc Sparg0 is a big barrier forcing Leo to thrive above his current self. GG’s to both, can’t wait to see more Leo tmr !!
I hope Leo can beat Apollokage, cuz if he does he'll most likely beat Dabuz (loser of Dabuz and Miya plays Leo for 9th, Dabuz has beaten Miya before but it was always close games) and be guaranteed at least 7th
Honestly it's almost comical how many players can start a set with so much dominance only to be the first to lose the stock.

I'm not saying joker is bad now but with the current characters at the top of the game (sonic, Steve Diddy, kazuya) he's not nearly as good as he used to be
Spargo has studied the mu and it shows, the cloud up air hurtbox shifting was key and got him out of many combos or out of disadvantage state. That being said I’m not sure why Leo didn’t go for the arsene counter on clouds up b there’s times where he could have gotten a kill after using gun into counter. Leo was also stuck in shield a lot instead of moving around cloud.

Exactly what I was thinking too. Lots of the times when Leo was being hit, he could’ve countered. He might’ve made good plays here and there, but his character mastery has gotten sloppy and it shows.

MKLeo playing joker like it's zeros sheik in sm4sh somewhat.
His only problem is his punish game and where he puts his opponents I feel. He keeps either overextending or under extending and it feels like he's lost in what to do in advantage.
I feel like one Leo stops playing full on neutral and starts abusing what his character can do, things will get a lot more interesting. For now, it just doesn't feel that way. Team fundies is dying out and I don't think it's gonna get better for them soon
i think it's bc of joker. He should pick another character, specially for cloud players.
@@juanfranciscofernandez1365 you're entirely wrong. Joker is very unexplored and underdeveloped compared to other characters. Leo plays him entirely based on fundamentals and doesn't really use jokers strengths as much as say omega who just lacks the same levels of fundamentals. The character isn't bad, it's just joker has a lot of catching up to do

Might I just say that I love the commentary on this set. There is a perfect balance between color and technical commentary between the four of them.
Hell naw nothing but color commentary imo there should always be one person who’s sole purpose is play-by-play especially when there’s as many voices as there was here

Can Joker not counter Cloud’s linear recovery as a means of edge guarding? Was surprised not to see that attempted even once while Leo used is on the stage version multiple times.
Leo is playing too scared. Its reasonable to be shielding against Cloud but Leo is shielding after every action and Sparg0 keeps getting a grab from it. Joker is a hit and run character but Leo is doing hit and shield.
He needs to be more aggressive with edge guarding as well, but Leo might have ptsd from getting reversaled..
Lastly, Sparg0 is clearly spacing and camping Arsene but I can’t say the same about Leo versus limit. Easier said than done though. I pray Leo will not place last..
One more thing is that Leo doesn’t remember the percent for when drag down is true.. Joker players NEED to know this. A drag down down smash at 100% is not true since there isnt enough stun. First hit fair drag down fsmash is also not true until the later 100%’s. It’s a shame because these got punished a lot this set.
TLDR: Leo isn’t grabbing enough against Spargo in some situations
In further explanation, in game one(4:00) Leo went for a dash attack after they missed each other (Spargo Jab 1, 2, 3, and Leo Nair moving) instead of going for grab. While watching it the first time I said “no grab he’s at low percent and under platform???”
I understand it was an instinctive decision, but yeah. I think Leo needs to potentially push his grab game with Joker in some scenarios. Joker is just too fast.
But I say this all as a die hard Leo fan. I still think Leo has the most potential of all smash players I’ve seen. It’s just my opinion maybe, but we’ve all seen what he can do.
Also gonna note that I loved his sneak under the neutral blade beam, bair. 🤌🏼
@@kratos553That’s a good example! There is just so much Leo can push and capitalize on but I don’t think he realizes it.
A lot of people players receive coaching and tips (Sparg0 got tips to beat Joker), however Leo doesn’t seem to be getting either. Obviously he is not taking it seriously anymore but a couple tips and coaching go a long way as shown by Sparg0 and Gluto!

I think people have Got A lot better at the joker matchup and players are getting better and on the characters in this meta matchup against joker really well in which I believe people are no longer afraid against artsend I know how to fight a lot better in our lead strapping joker a lot better too but I hope I see mkleo vs tweek which tomorrow there is a good possibility of it happening

Leo stopped playing Byleth as soon as people started figuring out his Nair landing hitbox. But honestly, the reach Byleth had was what won him games against Spargo.
But, sadly, he was the best for SO long that he got bored and started switching characters. Now he’s kinda forgetting which muscle-memory to use for which character per each scenario, and getting punished.
Still my all time fav though.
Imagine achieveing so much in such little time that that you switch your characters more than once and still whoop pretty much everybody. MKLeo has nothing else to prove. I'm convinced he's playing out of sheer love for the game because most people would have probably retired until the next Massive Circuit by now.
I don't think it's muscle memory, I think he's just getting outplayed tbh
@@karans6762it’s both. He’s getting outplayed because of his lack of practice. He does not try to figure out his characters as much as the other top players and that’s rough, especially with joker who needs consistent practice and elite execution to make him truly shine

@@karans6762 I never said they weren’t better I said it was both lol. But I play joker and you could tell his movement and gun usage is not being used properly. In the cloud joker matchup you can’t just keep landing on top of him with full hop fast fall nairs like he was doing, he need to use his movement to bait more since that’s how joker really shines, he was shielding way too much which restricts jokers movement and let’s cloud pressure him for free, and he wasn’t camping enough with jump gun or standing gun which is what you should be doing when playing defense. I noticed he kept trying to find himself in against Spargo with back air when he should be mixing it up with a b reverse gun to catch his jump or stand and put him in a semi-favorable position in neutral after the stun. It’s the little things that he just doesn’t seem to care to practice anymore solely relying on fundamentals and that’s just not how joker works at his best

This was not peak ultimate...Sparg0 outplayed the heck out of Mkleo. Their set at Smash Factor was way more intense.
Also, Sparg0's bracket is a dream for him right now. If he doesn't reach grand finals, he can only blame himself. Acola first, then Sonix, and finally potentially Miya...well, ok, they did change the bracket, so now Miya has to fight Dabuz instead of Tweek, which means that he may get upset, and then Tweek or Light might make it to Sparg0, which are less favorable for him. He might still win losers finals, idk.

The difference is Leo, not that Joker isn't amazing anymore.
He is getting out meta’d and part of it is because of his recovery. The big part of why he’s getting out meta’d is because the game rewards easier to get hard punishes. Joker has hard punishes but the execution is a lot harder so he just gets stuffed about by other characters like a g&w, Steve, Rob, etc
The reason cloud is doing good in this meta even with a bad recovery is because his matchup spread is amazing and he’s way easier to get simpler hard punishes with, especially with that huge back air that does not struggle to kill at all

I watch a fair bit of competitive smash and this group of casters is the best. They understand the game, and are funny as fuck.
I feel like everyone lets Sparg0 recover for free, and that's supposed to be the win condition against Cloud.

iirc leo just didnt trust the character which tbf does make sense cuz byleth loses to most top tiers and byleth/joker arent a good dual main (Pika, Sonic, and arguably Sheik are losing mus for both)

A little bit of both. He doesn't dedicate that much time to this anymore while the competition has been on the grind. He used to do 8-hour streams of him practicing which is insane, but now he has other things going on

MKLeo is shielding too much in this MU. Cloud thrives in the shield pressure department and Joker does not have good OOS options. Leo needs to abuse Jokers movement in a better way. He has some of the best hurtbox shifting in the whole game. I know there's a way Leo can win this without switching to another character.
It also does not help that Leo's advantages state is not too polished and he over extended quite a bit.

You can see how much Leo play style is different. I wonder if he is forcing himself to show up to some tournaments. He still plays at a decent level but not at a high level anymore. Almost like he was bored with the game and winning. I mean he is making it looks like he is trying to "win" but you can see it in this video that he basically didn't get it his all. You can look at the old videos of these two battling it out and then look at this. It just don't have that same feel to it. It's not Sparg0 the problem is MkLeo. Almost like something is going on that is making him just not try his best. Even earlier this year he was playing his best and we saw great matches even if he lost but now the matches just look like some boring online match.
Nah Leo is still a high level player he is still easily top 20-30 rn and overall at absolute worse like 11th for this yr overall

Say it with me: Joker is not the move anymore! There are so many characters that have an easier time vs top tier characters with top tier execution players as pilots. Leo is obviously still great but Joker is holding him back

Tbf Joker has done by far the best of his characters this yr and tbh if Leo consistently plays the character and commits for a while (Same goes to his other chars btw he just needs to commit if he wants to win again imo at least for a few months) but Joker's only losing relevant mu is Sonic really (Pika and Sheik arent played often, Mario is mostly considered even, and Diddy is only really Tweek in NA rn outside of the odd aaron pop off) also Zackray, Tsubaki, and Omega are all doing solid with the character rn so Joker can do it just I think the issue is a lack of commitment to one single character
@@sektorackworth214 the precision and execution rate needs to be much higher with joker than the characters his opps are choosing and winning tournaments with. He has to consistently outplay his opps for a very long time and even then it doesn’t yield a win. Character is good, fun and flexible but will not win tournaments with the likes of half the cast that is present at Watch the Throne.
