    What a great looking layout! Love the realistic maneuvers the speed and organized outlook of the layout. I have watched this from the beginning to end.

    I REALLY like your ops! The layout space I have is going to have to be sort of like you have and I haven't quiet got my track plan in place yet. The room is approximately 11' x 10' . Thanks for some great action!

      Many many thanks. I am very happy that you like my layout and its operation.
      A lot of beautiful things can be done with the space available to you. Go ahead.

    I like how, along with view blocks, you continuously maintain the 180degree curve, that from the viewers perspective, does not look apparent. The petroleum dealer spur curving around reenforces the illusion and is a nice spur-line on it's own.

      Thank you. I'm very pleased that you like the design, especially how I tried to break the impression a bit by designing the landscape that a rather tight 180° curve creates.

    Would love to see your car card system. The cards look larger than what I normally use. Great layout! Would be fun to operate on!

      Thank you very much.
      It is the usual carcard and waybill system as can also be done with the carcards and waybills from Railgraphics, for example. I just use handwritten carcards, which I make from normal index cards. They measure 10.5cm by 14.7cm. These larger card cards are easier to handle, easier to read during the session and are significantly cheaper than the industrially prefabricated ones. If there are guests, I also create switch lists from time to time. But I don't need it for myself. “The conductor decides based on his experience what needs to be done, when and how to get the job done.”
      A formal operating session lasts 60-90 minutes, depending on which cars are to be picked up and delivered. The sessions are made up of three sequences, all of which can be carried out individually at different times. The first sequence involves sorting the incoming cars into two turns, the morning turn (facing point turn) and the afternoon turn (trailing point turn). The second sequence is the morning turn and the third sequence is the afternoon turn. There is also a fourth sequence. In this sequence, the outgoing cars, together with their carcards and waybills, are placed in the empty interchange boxes of the just completed session in the order in which they appear on the interchange track. (All interchange boxes are numbered consecutively. Four cars fit in each box. The cars from two boxes are always used for a new session.) Then take the cars from the next two boxes in the order in which they are in the box and put them on the interchange track. These are the incoming cars for the next session. Then I turn over the waybills in all carcards of all cars on the layout. About half of all my cars have four-step waybills, the others have two-step waybills. Next, the loads are removed or added to all open cars. And now the layout is ready for the next session. I use a total of 19 interchange boxes that hold 76 cars. There are also the 8 cars that are located at the industries on the layout. This means that there are currently 84 cars in the system. The odd number of boxes means that my cars are further mixed up. Boxes 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6... up to 17 and 18 are used and then it continues with 19 and 1, 2 and 3, 4 and 5 etc. The order in which the cars are placed depends on where they stood on the interchange track and that depends on how the previous session went. Because of this system, I don't know in advance which cars will be added to the layout and what exactly needs to be done in the upcoming seesion. The "conductor" really has to look at all the carcards and waybills at the beginning of the new session and plan all switching moves based on this. This means that no session is the same as the previous one. It may happen that some cars have to be parked off-spot because their designated spot is occupied by another car. These cars will then be placed at the designated spot in the following session. There will then be fewer than 8 outgoing cars in the relevant session and more in the following session. If there are more than 8 outgoing cars, the remaining ones are placed in the empty boxes of the current session. This also serves to further mix up the cars I use. And every Monday the designated locomotive is changed. This week it is SDL JT#39.
      Prototypical model railroad operation is fun.

      @@tomlinke8067 thanks for your detailed reply. I was able to see one of your cards in a later video. I think that would be popular with my crew. I’m going to see if I can do something similar.

      Many thanks. Yes, I really enjoy operating the layout. It does exactly what it was designed and built for, prototypical switching operation in the model. And that's why I run it almost every day. Great layout! What is the size of your room?

    • @tomlinke8067
      @tomlinke8067  5 місяців тому

      Thank you very much. The layout measures 4.00m by 1.45m. The room is slightly larger, approximately 4.05m by 1.50m, but there are no right angles anywhere in the room and the door frame and heating pipes protrude into the room. That's why the layout was planned and built slightly smaller as an exact rectangle. The layout is not attached to the walls, but stands completely on its own legs. It can be dismantled relatively easily and reinstalled somewhere else.
