- Yep, it's finally here. After months of requests, I can finally upload it! The remasters are out! This is no longer confidential! Wooooo!
Seriously though, this tape is so cool to have. It was a comp originally made for Don Bolles, and shows a great window into Ariel's writing and compiling process. Notice how Side A is named House Arrest after a song, and has a totally different sequence, and that Lover Boy doesn't have its name yet! This was WAY pre House Arrest/Lover Boy, and who knows, maybe he was still tossing around the Confessions idea here!
I think this just really shows how Ariel really works in ways of mixtapes, and his physical albums are just mixes that got released publicly (except for maybe The Doldrums and Worn Copy).
Something else cool you'll notice: some tracks are at different pitches! These were (as far as we can tell) the original pitches of the songs. You see, Ariel's tapedeck was on its last legs, and sometimes transfered at the wrong speed. If he liked the difference, he would keep it! Cool, huh?
Also Helen has a motherfucking stroke in the middle there. And what the FUCK is Steviepink doing here? In a different pitch too? What?

dude a thousand thanks for this < 3 i was feeling a different punchiness in some of the songs and then i realized the pitch thing - i always thought john maus was doing some back vocal in "Older Than Her Years" but now, hearing it in this different pitch, i am not so sure anymore!
having heard the old records hundreds of times i always wondered about the little hiccup when the tracks transition from one to the other and i guess this album offers some clarification on that: it seems that Ariel was trying some kind of seamless transition...? i mean, it some cases the next track is clearly starting while the other one is still finishing. i love it tho, even more because of the constant surprise of a new tracklist. love!
