3 other things to bear in mind when arriving at your battalion/regiment after training. 1). Dont be jack (selfish/lazy) 2). Dont be gobby, mouthy and 3) have a sense of humour as it will help you get thru any dark times and is a good coping mechanism...
@Luke yeet British military slang for been selfish, lazy or not bothering with your job.
You are helping so many people with these videos! Thank you so much!
Just found the channel, got briefing end of April. Can’t wait !

I really enjoy watching all of these vlogs , there are many and varied, 1 thing is for sure if we had had this in 1986 before i joined up it would have been a lot easier!!
Great video Can't wait to join once those boarders re-open.
Great video. As always, insightful advice
Much appreciated!
Thanks a lot for the update bro
So good to hear some solid advice for future recruits. Wish YT had been about in the 80s when I joined up as a Regular. Even now as a Reservist it’s still inspiring to hear personal experiences.
Per Ardua and good luck with your charity challenge.

I'm waiting for my assessment centre date hoping to join 1 royal anglians, very excited hopefully see you there in the future
Nice mate 👌
I applied back in January 2020, i finally got my date for ITC Catterick for the 21st February this month i can't wait. Just seen some comments about the process. Things do come up and delay it massively but honestly just stick with the process. I went for my assessment day and they asked about my family. One of my family member is from Isreal. They had to test me for sickle cell anemia. This took 3 months. Honestly all i'm trying to say is stick to the process guys. You will eventually get there!
all the best mate, i’ll hopefully be going soon
Thanks for clearing this up mate. Appreciate it. Definitely going to join now
Happy to help
Good luck with selection!
@@djrxp are you british?
@@djrxp i just wana know if this is american or british
@@djrxp hello Djrxp, for Commonwealth applicants, who recruitment should soon be starting up for, may have to test for the sickle cell trait but is it okay if we do the test from our own country and then bring the results when arriving in the UK to their Assessment Centre than to have to do the sicklecell test in the UK during assessment and having to wait weeks if not months before getting it done and recieving the results?
Assessment on Monday ! Royal engineers or infantry( Yorkshire Reg ) , yet to decide.
Great vids on insight on what's life is like in the military. Thanks !
People put a lot of emphasis on trade but in my opinion it's overrated. It's better to be proactive, get courses done in your own time, irrespective of whether you go infantry or engineers. And choose the role which you'll enjoy more.
Assesment straight pass A
Will be on the 14th march intake for infantry training at ITC and join 2 Yorks after !
Loved the vid mate
Thanks man!
Ayy, The Forces News Facebook page just did an article on your 4x4x48 Challenge. Looks fun :)
Shin splints. stretch before and after running (at least 10 minutes). Mix in other low impact cardio. have rest days. Proper footwear will also help.
@Luke yeet Yes, you need to do all of those things. Mixing up your cardio (like swimming or other low impact activities) will take some stress off your legs, stretching adequately before and after will reduce risk of injury, and warm up your muscles properly. Rest days are self explanatory. Proper footwear makes a ton of difference as well. Coupled with proper form etc.
@@MsJstanley24 only dynamic stretching, static stretching increases your risk of injury

Love the videos mate I’ve subbed 👍 just like to ask what’s the rules on smoking through training and the career also how often do you get leave as I’ve got a mrs who wouldn’t appreciate it if I was away for years 😂TIA
Just a point about the difference in rifles and guards, I'm ex Scots guards from the 80,s it's basically in the guards you do more drill and more bullshit, locker inspections more drill and more attention to detail. In the guards you have a two tier role infantry wether mechanised or ground role and ceremonial. I did 6 years in the 80, s at the guards depot Pirbright was where we did basic training. Depending on which battalion you joined you could be anywhere in the world, London district battalions used to do ceremonial duties as well as infantry training. If you got posted to Germany you were armoured infantry and might never wear a tunic and bearskin. In my six years I only did one year on ceremonial the rest was green kit, Northern Ireland twice, Canada and Germany. I enjoyed my time in the army and learnt a lot, my advice to anyone joining is give it 100% don't just jack because your cold, wet and hungry and take in what the instructors are telling you because that goes with the job description. If you get through basic and go to battalion keep your head down and listen to the older more experienced lads, don't think your the dogs bollocks just because you passed basic you are starting at the bottom again and this is where your soldiering career really starts. The world is your oyster so go for it, you can either just do enough to get by or you can go for it and go on every course available and climb the ladder. The choice is really yours, good luck. 😊
Awesome video and info. I really want to join up either full time or reserve for RMP. I keep putting myself off because I’m married, my husband wouldn’t want to travel around with me as he’s settled and I’m 30 this year.
Hey Jess, thanks! Difficult circumstance but not unachievable. I've had recruits in my last platoon that were married and completed training. They are now looking to get Army housing for their family

Hi, what are your thoughts on joining Infantry aged 30? I did 5 years as a Royal Engineer between 2007 and 2012.
Do you have many recruits joining Infantry at an older age?

Joining as a soldier, any tips for the bleep test
Practice it a few times beforehand. Make sure you build your running up (aside from the bleep test) and try your absolute hardest!

Is it possible to leave your role to train to do another role?
yeah. just speak to your plt staff tho they will wont you to stay
Hello, I am 14 years old 15 in a couple months and I want to join the British army, I’ve been a weakling for 13 and a half years of my life and pretty much still am. I can do about 19 press ups and 40 sit ups in a row, 0 pull ups... I want to join the army it’s my dream job to be a soldier, I want to get fit enough to join the royal marine commandos at the age of 18. So that’s 4 years. Do you have any tips on how to build muscle and burn fat, or should I just keep what I’m doing and keeping building on it. I start going on runs with my dad this weekend. He is an Ex-welsh guards infantry soldier. Does anyone have any recommendations on getting fit and healthy during this lockdown? - I subbed you have amazing content.
Edit: sorry for the poor grammar
Your dad will know how. Go for it. I was a skinny weakling too but I always tried my very best. Now and then, push yourself until you feel sick.
I wanted to join, but didn't think I could cut it. So I didn't. Now I will never know. I gave up before I even started, don't be me. I love the outside. The worse the weather, the better. 😊👍 Best of luck.
In training, if you fail the bleep test for example, do you keep training and re do it until you pass ?
Retrain you
hi mate when you said about the 40kg 4k then 25kg 2k does that all have to be done in 15 mins
God no! The 4km is a squadded effort which is paced by a PTI. The 2km is the best effort which must be 15 mins or less
Is the medical requirements exactly the same or tougher for joining as an officer regular compared to officer reserve
same
I have a qusetion about the medical, test with the lung capacity test are you always put on the bike for a lung test after exercise or is it just if you dont meet the requirements of the lung capacity test without exercise
Hello, I did my assessment centre November 5th last year so I can try to at least say what happened to me. my lung capacity test didn’t require me to go on the bike for it to be measure again so I’d imagine they only do it if you have any previous medical history in terms of lungs. Hope this helps

How does the Infantry feel about lads with glasses , my fitness is on point I train everyday though my eyesight ain’t the best ?
Glasses are fine mate. But I recommend getting contact lenses for when you are in the field or on PT. You don't have to, but it definitely helped me
@@djrxp cant believe you haven't recommended the issued gigs (contraception) sir
lads if you want to join infantry but also want a trade at the same time, join the royal engineers. (we do all the combat engineering) & then go 23 or 24 which is supporting paras and commandos respectively. you’ll be close infantry support with trades under your belt doing aly shit.
But won't be infantry
Is just under a year enough time to get fit for the army ( infantry standards)
yes
I did send a question on insta, but I have my (Army Reserve) PJNCO course in Catterick for 3 weeks this Friday and wondered if you had any advice. I'm a little nervous as due to covid I haven't had the amount of preparation in terms of field exercises in a few months. Any advice or tips on this course? and what to expect. Thanks
Mate I did that exact course back in October/November 2020. In camp routine is a lot more chilled out than what u may expect at times, as long as your where your suppose to be at certain times. For the exercises, the first one is more of a refresher. Making sure everyone on the course is up to standard. They then progress in the following two into more infantry bases skills. However, the staff do expect u to be switched on in the field and I felt that’s what they really cared about during the course. They wanted to test u as much as they could, within reason, to get the best out of u as they only have a short period of time to work with you.
@@harryjackson9860 thanks mate did you do a 6 day exercise as the schedule shows it but the JI’s just say 72 hours?
@@mmorgangreen no mate, the training team didn’t tend to stick to the plan completely. It was more of a rough guideline. In response about the 6 day ex. No mate, final ex was only 4 nights 5 days if I remember correctly. But yours could be longer or shorter, just depends on the training team mate.
I don't have any specifics to add on the actual course or how it runs. But I will say that it will be particularly important to work hard for your peers and not be jack! You'll probably be in command appointments at times - stay calm, think things through.
@@djrxp thank you for the advice, my CO said the same about being Jack and that’s not in my nature, he said your be watched probably more when your being a bod to see how you work for your 2IC and not Jack in them. How’s the COVID in catterick as have mates on CIC now and they said it’s pretty high?
iv seen your phase 1 Vids and when people First arrive they are wear Suits, do you actually need to ware a Suit when you first show up ?
It's a requirement to turn up 'clean, tidy and presentable' but the military recognises that not everyone comes from a background which allows them to own a shirt, tie, shoes and suit ... the problem is that all it takes is one 🔔🔚 Corporal who forgets that fact and your first few days can be a nightmare.
The simple answer is to join the Royal Marines instead, none of our Corporals are 🔔🔚 so it'll all be ok!
Haha! I'm sure some RM Cpls aren't the most welcoming of blokes😂
To answer the question, I'd recommend a suit. If you can't get one then just turn up looking smart. It's professionalism
Have you ever thought about applying to the SAS
@Andrew Fair thanks
Can you join the army if you have asthma I’m 22 haven’t had a attack since I was young about 14 but need it occasionally when I suffer with a bad chest

If you pass out from Sandhurst into the Army Air Corps to train as an officer pilot, will you have soldiers directly under your command or do you focus solely on being a pilot?
RAF Is for pilots
@@fireblade8905 The army air corps is a regiment within the army who fly and maintain mainly Apache and wildcat helicopters. It’s perfectly possibly to be in the army and be a pilot.
@@matthewduncan2499 surely your best bet is to join the RAF to be a pilot. I don't see the point of joining the army to fly a chopper/plane
@@fireblade8905 Army air Corps is the only place you can fly Apache though
Would people joining as a soldier when they can join as officers?
Yes. The job roles are totally different and some people prefer to be doing the hands on stuff as opposed to doing more of a managerial role.
Are you still in cattrick?
You're crazy! Ducks are angry, aggressive and scary. A horse sized one would be a monster, if horses were duck sized they wouldn't really have a lot going for them and you could clear them out with a sweep of the leg 😂
Can I still do the same preparation for the run? I know it’s the beep test at the moment, but would the same preparation still help?
My recruiter tells me to focus on 2km and it will gradually help beep test score. He also said to try interval trainings for beep test
Definitely do the bleep test to get to know the timings.
Yeah your prep will still help. It's worth practicing the bleep test a few times just to get used to it!
i have knee problems, its not sore to touch, only sore when i bend down, do squats and workout etc, i am 16 years old, i am too scared to go to the doctor because it will go on my medical records and it could stop me from getting in the army, i plan to sign up when i am about 18 maybe 17, hopefully its nothing serious and it will be healed by then but what do you think i should do ?
side note: all i ever do is sit around in my room and play video games, normally i wake up around 11am and play games until 10pm, and about once a week i workout, could this be why my knees have problems ? (lack of exercise)
@@lynx922 work out everyday, run 5 times a week (easy runs + hard runs) and strength training (pushups sit-ups etc). By the time you join you’ll smash through everything.
Anyone got any other info on shin splints??? Currently experiencing them so taking a 1-2 week break and ordered some ASIC running trainers.
I had them when I first started running. Get some compression socks they help so much, don’t train so much it’s so important to let them rest. Don’t let it stop you from running but don’t run so hard. I brought new running shoes and that massively helped! Try to be more lighter on the ground so it had less impact on your shins. Also put a cold compress on your shins after a run and massage them!
I had them when I first started, got to the point where I didn't run for a month straight because I damaged them too much. My tip is to get a foam roller and a lacrosse ball and massage your shins and calves twice a day (morning and night works for me) Then I would say strengthen and grow your calfs and legs with exercises like deep calve extensions, squats and glute bridges. Then lastly I bought some calcium tablets just to give my body the extra help it needed to "fix" the shins. If you are still running and it hurts when run, stop immediately because you don't want to further damage your shins. Also I was running on grass after I recovered from them just to ease my body into running again. Hope it works out for you mate, any questions you have just reply here and I'll get back
mine stopped after getting proper running shoes with plenty of cushion.
