Heads up! We've started a new channel for all things tractors, firewood and other projects. Subscribe here: ua-cam.com/channels/Pmos-Vu8QFlp3lXkQ38hfQ.html ... The Woods Tree Farm channel will focus more on christmas tree farming and agribusiness going forward.
I’m sure others may have better techniques than mine while using your grapple but I’ll offer you mine. When picking up a log try putting the rear tines against the log barely touching the ground. Knuckle forward (as if you were dumping the bucket) while closing the grapple. Once closed curl all the way back. The objective is to rest the log on the rear tines with the front of the grapple holding it in place. This method will offer a more secure grip as opposed to pinching the middle of the log. I have over 600 tractor hours on my grapple and I’m still learning. Lol
It's a big time and back saver! You can also use the upper part to back drag and rake up some of those branches. I too am getting used to it. I bought mine in December, but snow just recently melted enough to use it. Getting a few acres cleared for our tree farm. Appreciate all the info you have documented!
I too am doing the same on my farm. Lots of clean up and cutting trees and scrub brush. I bought an Armstrong grapple. I can’t do without it. It is the most useful implement I can imagine. I believe you’ll find it saves soooo much time.
Love your videos I have been looking at that same tractor And also been thinking about seriously starting a Christmas tree Farm I only have 8 acres to work with your clips really have help and I only seen just a few so far. I hope to get it going soon .
That grapple attachment sure is handy may have to add that to my wish list. The problem is my wish list is already pretty lengthy lol. Good job on the video take care brother.
Great video as usual! I recently bought a 3901 with a bush hog. I havent used yet due to rain in my area, so ive been watching your videos and others.....Particularly the other video of yours where you said you shoulda gotten the 2501 and used the extra funds elsewhere. That video got me to thinkin and doin even more research. Called my dealer and he agreed to return the 3901....Im getting a 2501, 3rd function, grappler, heavy box blade, and pallet forks for very close the same price as the 3901. I do have a pond levee and somewhat hilly terrain that i believe the 3901 will handle better, but a man with a budget (wife) has to do what he has to do. And i need the implements to do what needs doin. Thanks for the vids and valuable info. Just know that your videos persuaded one new tractor owner. For better or worse is yet to be decided 😂
sounds like you got everything you'll need! If you don't need the pto HP, there's not much advantage of the 3901 over the 2501, so you probably made the right move. best of luck with your new tractor!
Hi there! Its always great to hear from a local. THanks for watching. You can check out my other channel I recently started that has more tractor work. ua-cam.com/channels/Pmos-Vu8QFlp3lXkQ38hfQ.html
I have the same tractor and Grapple... when back raking keep it in float... all the way forward and dont extend the hydraulics all the way out. I've lifted Rocks and whole trees with mine. it's fairly light compared to other Grapples too. Lots of rear ballast always.
I spent the day at the farm using mine to burn up the brush pile and continue the cleaning work. It is such a time saver and back saver. My wife is voting that you should get a grapple if that helps. PS-you will want to get a grill guard to protect the radiator, because those sticks love to find their way in there.
Watching you use that I can see how someone could easily punch a hole right through the radiator with a stout branch. I'll be adding some wire lath or other barrier to protect my radiator.
yeah, I've heard that happens rather often. I tried to pay close attention to keep it from happening to me. I've seen some pretty nice homemade brush guards made up elsewhere on UA-cam and Facebook.
With the high need you have for clearing trees and dead wood, your need for a grapple is a no brainer. Please tell your wife that. I like the Landpride unit. Thanks for the video.
I was actually just borrowing that grapple before and only had it for two months or so. It did everything I had asked. I now have the Artillian grapple and there are a few reasons I like it better. In particular, I like the long lower sections that make it easier to scoop and lift brush and logs.
You will have to buy a grapple after this! Try rolling the grapple forward a little more before closing it, I think that may help some. Also I thought I saw a blue tractor in the background in the one shot of you talking. Is that a Farmtrac?
Thanks for the tip. I did end up trying to tilt the grapple forward, and found it to be pretty effective at squashing a big pile of brush while closing the grapple and was able to grab considerably more at once. Yes the OBT (old blue tractor) makes an appearance here and there in videos. Its a Farmtrac 60 - here's an up-close ua-cam.com/video/62sijJ2R3Uw/v-deo.html
Do you happen to know what brand of 3rd function valve they installed? There are several out there and the price varies from $400 to $800 and have you had any issues with it? Thanks for any help and I enjoyed watching the video
@@treeman765 Looks like a Land Pride 3rd function valve kit. For that particular tractor, your're looking at between $900+ and $1100, depending on where you can find them. Messick's tractor has them on Amazon for right at $1000 including free shipping off Amazon. Not very hard to install it yourself. Takes an 1 hour to 2 depending on mechanically experienced you are. Good luck.
I figured that you would love it. Now to the Missus: "Mrs. Woods Tree Farm, your husband Phil needs a grapple! It will save his back while letting him get a lot more done. I have had one for over a year and it is my favorite implement." Let's hope that works.
There was no wondering IF you were going to simply love the grapple. I knew you would love it. I waited 10 years before I got one on my tractor and I could kick myself for not just spending the money in the first place. If you want to get your wife's endorsement on the grapple, just let her drive the tractor and use the grapple. She'll get used to it fast and simply love it. "Gair-ounn-teed" 😊 👍
observation: Why is it there are countless videos for a grapple hook for tiny Kubotas? Hell, just pick up the twigs by hand and stick the twigs in a garbage can.
yeah, I could see that being useful for brush piles and light work, but for digging in the ground, I think longer tines would be more likely to bend. Thanks for watching!

Glad your enjoying the videos! Thanks for watching.
Be careful backdragging. It can destroy your hydraulics because they are extended. Don't listen to this guy.
You have to use your brain.
Back dragging is perfectly fine with the right equipment and operator
@@David-rr4rr yeah right
Hope you enjoy the grapple. Have a fine weekend.

awesome! I haven't heard of the armstrong grapple, but glad to hear its serving you well. Thanks for the comment!
Yes sir👍 you're already a pro at it! I'm pretty sure you'll get one for yourself when your buddy wants that one back. 😁
Yeah, we'll see!
It sure looks a useful piece of equipment. Camping ground idea sounds great, I look forward to watching. 👍
I have that same grapple on my B2601. Love it! ❤️
Working out real well for me so far! Thanks for watching and taking a minute to leave the comment.

I appreciate you watching. My main tree field is about 7 acres and I haven't filled it up yet.
Just bought a new Lx3310 with the same grapple. I haven’t gotten it yet from the dealer but looking forward to doing a lot of work with it.
should serve you well. Best of luck with it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks a lot!
Definitely a handy tool. Don't forget to get the wife to use it, she'll like it too.
Good idea.

@@WoodsTreeFarm thanks will do. I grew up with a huge Christmas tree farm next to me in the mountains. They are alot of work

Definitely enjoying putting it to work! Thanks for watching

Good idea on the grill guard. I'll keep working on the Mrs.
Great video.. I have the same tractor and am looking for a grapple. Can you tell me what you have installed on the 3 point hit in this video? Thanks!
Thats a quick hitch, allows for quickly hooking up implements that are quick hitch compatible.
@@WoodsTreeFarm I thought so.. I found your video on it. Great reference. Thank you!

I think the value is becoming apparent after using this LP grapple the last couple weeks! Thanks for taking a minute to drop the comment.
Whats the one year review of the grapple? Still good or has it let you down

Woods Tree Farm I have a Farmtrac 60 as well it’s been a great tractor. Bought it new in 2004 and have worked the daylights out of it ever since.
your going to take 3.5 minutes before we see it run then your going to have this one out of frame camera angle?
Apparently. 🤷♂️
did you have a video of you installing a 3rd function i cant find it.. thats my next purchase for my L3901.
No, sorry. I had the dealer take care of the install.

Good idea. Might try that today. Lol.
Let your wife move the brush by hand for awhile and then let her use the grapple she would make you go buy one lol

I got 43 acres. You can come over and pick up twigs by hand anytime.
@itsruf1 You have no idea what you’re talking about 🤨 Why did you watch then?
So the big question is, were you able to convince your other half that the grapple is a great business investment???? lol
Work in progress
Looks like the bottom teeth need to be a little longer. Nice video though it definitely will save you time

I went with terra force grapple. the land pride is a joke.
ok
No joke it’s a great tool when used properly and the best part it won’t destroy your loader
