I CANNOT believe I'm about to type this.. especially about someone I admire so damn much.. but.. Cameron.. dear.. what the HELL!!???!? too much crackcocaine before the performance?? I mean..it's bad dude.. really bad, as in one of your worst ever.
This organ seems as good a justification as any for Carpenter's dream of building his International Touring Organ, an instrument that goes with him, that he won't have to "deal with" because it's more problematic than the LAST organ he had to cope with.
A perfect example of when less would have been more. Someone with Cameron's talent and capability should have managed it, be it the console,, the organ itself, or the recording equipment.
I struggle to understand why anyone would like this. This is absolutely atrocious. It's like the organist got into some absinthe. Any person who has the audacity to say this is a good rendition simply needs to seek out their nearest audiologist. You obviously need to get your hearing checked.
I know this is an old comment and all. But to be honest, I really like the cacophony of many sounds and noises chiming in together. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with being autistic or not, but some things that most people would feel like a head splitting noise, I find comfortable to listen to.
This organ is (was?) located in Suntory hall in Tokyo. I don't know whether it was Cameron's registrations or not that made it sound so bad. if you look at the console, the swell pedals are way off to the right, the stop jamb makes it look like Samsung made it.
This guy may have some talent but gets way to ahead of himself and Rule#1 never get the audience to clap along because you will never be able to keep up . With that said I think the guy can play and is talented at his craft I have to remember everyone has there own style and creative flair.
The instrument in Suntory Hall, Tokyo, was built in 1986 by Rieger Orgelbau in Austria. 75/IV. The sound, and the console, is quite typical for German(-ic) organbuilding of that period. It has a flat parallel BDO (German organ builders association) pedal, very common in Europe, not the concave radiating AGO-pedal. Manuals and stop controls also adheres to the same norm. Quite different from traditions and regulations in the English speaking world (and in Italy).
What a contrast between this "performance" and his other UA-cam postings, some of which are quite masterful, albeit in a showy way. If this had been the first CC rendition I ever heard, I doubt I would have looked for any others.
I know a lot of people seem to hate this, but I actually like it quite a lot. Yeah I know, it’s just a loud cacophonous mess of sloppy mistakes and the clapping wasn’t necessary. But I could actually find myself listening to this unironically just because I like songs that are extremely loud and all over the place.
Wow this instrument is really unresponsive. A slow computer interface and or poorly voiced pipe work "If the airstream is focused on the lip of the pipe, you will get prompt speech". This is the very reason that Virgil Fox spent a whole day with a instrument before a concert to figure out what it's idiosyncrasies were as well as having things fixed/adjusted before a concert.
is there anybody who can make this guy understand that we don't care if he plays sitting upside down or covering his eyes, or breaking a guinnes record? art is not about doing something hard. In music, art is playing well ( good tempo, good phrasing, being musical. And Cameron, I'm sorry but your playing is way too sloppy. You should pick easier pieces. Don't go for pieces that are beyond your level). Some "artists" really BELONG IN THE CIRCUS.
Do I agree with you, absolutely. Do I doubt this guys potential to play the MELODY (Not some other crazy improv.) with two hands on the manuals, and two feet on the pedals, absolutely. I just don't get why he doesn't stick to the melody so you can tell what he is playing.
I want you to know if you see his Stars and Stripes forever at trinity it's amazing well done. It's not him it's the organ , he doesn't have control over this organ cause he doesn't know well he has talked about that a lot and also the thing about Cameron is that he has the right to Bash, Or revolutionize Anything. Listening to organist today yeah they are good but what makes them different ? Nothing this makes Him different ! What made Virgil different ? Diane bish ? How did they get glorified? Because they are different and they took different liberties At the organ that regular organist wouldn't do.
Cameron has played this dozens of times in America. He never plays the same piece twice the same way. Look him up playing it at Trinity Church in NYC. That's probably one of the early videos that made him infamous on the internets. That and the Chopin piece played on the same organ. One thing's for sure, the Cameron haters never seem to give up lol
I agree on both points. He nails this piece at Trinity Church NYC. Every organ is different. Imagine if Yo Yo Ma had to learn an entirely new instrument at every single concert and a cello is nowhere near the complexity of a pipe organ. People just love to hate Cameron. They hate that's he's gay, out-spoken and most importantly has more talent in his shoe laces than the typical Cameron hater could ever dream of approaching. I've seen a Cameron hater play and now i know why they hate him so much
Never point to your audience, chimps point to start a fight. Love your audience, love the instrument and love your self. Do that and people will truly love you even if you just play Mary had a little lamb...... Riding the crechindo and tuti of coarse :-D
If this is the organ at the NHK hall, then that's a real shame - this console is clearly dying (after the pedal piccolo part look at what happens, when he's playing - 4th manual silent, then it has ciphers on a strong reed stop). It would have been better for him to play on its mechanical console (if its still there)
I love cameron But it sure looks likes he's struggling with that console and the sounds.. I don't blame him cause it's one of the worst sounding pipe organs i have ever heard lol
To add on: after a brief search it doesn't look like the NHK organ (search fo "Virgil Fox Live in Japan" - look at the middelschulte video and notice how responsive the pedals are)
Pretty good, given an obviously troublesome console. Japanese organ builders go with pushbutton stop controls similar to those in Roland® Atelier and Yamaha® Electone® multi-keyboards, and registering such instruments on the fly requires accuracy beyond that needed for the momentary rocker switches on some of the latest European organs with electric stop action. Don't know what design manuals are used here, but they apparently give more trouble than reputable pipe organ builders will permit.
Problem is, most of us LIKE Cameron. We know what he's capable of, and this was..... Painful. It's very clearly a problem with the console, not Cameron. He's talented beyond imagination.
Guys Cameron may be hated but I have met him he is truly a great person I am an organist my self and I love his work so stop being rude and keep your rude opinions to yourself and if he read this he'd be really disappointed that people think so low of him so lay off him. Honestly if I said that stuff to you guys you'd start crying
horrible...omg it's discussing!! I would not even subscribed to this garbage
Once again, proof that because you can doesn't mean you should.........
I’m dead
Agree with you 100% Gary. I find this guy impossible to listen to, even on a good day.
Sorry, but this is a horrible mess. He's got inhuman capabilities at the organ, but this is just awful.
I think he's trying to make "punk organ" a genre of music.
This is absolutely horrifying.
why
Huh?
Zarathustra Now I’m curious as to why all the comments say that this rendition is horrible.
BLOODY AWFUL! He's ruined his entire life's work in this one travesty.....
This really does suck. His earlier version was really so much better..
I greatly prefer his earlier performance of S&SF -- much cleaner, more controlled, more professional.
Dude--you are way out there! Your talent is exceeded by your flamboyance! It has gotten a bit overdone!
I CANNOT believe I'm about to type this.. especially about someone I admire so damn much.. but.. Cameron.. dear.. what the HELL!!???!? too much crackcocaine before the performance?? I mean..it's bad dude.. really bad, as in one of your worst ever.

Wow. Rough. I'm surprised. Was expecting more excellence.
Recgistration and tempo weren’t ideal or consistent. I’ve seen him preform this better
A beautiful piece of music ruined by an unforgivably careless rendition.
What an atrocious organ.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
excuse me?
Me: 'this seems like it could be good' *he enthusiasticly gestures for clapping* 'Oh... oh no'
As an organist, I literally had to stop the video after like 15 sec. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
I love how the Japanese get so hype for American stuff XD
Horrible!!! Out of Style.
A perfect example of when less would have been more. Someone with Cameron's talent and capability should have managed it, be it the console,, the organ itself, or the recording equipment.
Hmmmm..... practice first???????
I have heard calliopes sound better.
I struggle to understand why anyone would like this. This is absolutely atrocious. It's like the organist got into some absinthe. Any person who has the audacity to say this is a good rendition simply needs to seek out their nearest audiologist. You obviously need to get your hearing checked.

A right dogs dinner, covered in sequins

Applause drowned out the organ. WAY to fast and out of sync

Quelle horreur!
Whaqt the bloody hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stars and Strips for NEVER, thank you, twinkle-toes-carpenter
This one is not very good! To many mistakes.
Absolutely awful
It’s so bad it’s good
Cam is the Liberace of the organ

Bro just….. stop
Just plain sloppy
Clearly he's made a deal w/the devil.
Didn't he build an organ to his own specifications that was supoosed to be a travelling organ to go with him on concerts?
yeh, I just heard it and it's just hoots and toots and crap
Yes Cameron had his own Organ now. This performance was in Japan back in 2013 before he had his International Touring Organ.
Cameron Rocks

he is an amazeing organist. also highly intelligent. as I have seen many of his videos.

+guinness4life Good point. The Japanese or whatever audience this is doesn't have this as one of their patriotic hymns.

good lord no
why the clapping
I have no use for Cameron. The organ was horrible I have to agree.
What's so bad wit this performance
EVERYTHING!!!! Sloppy, muddy, eccentric, dreadful!!!
Daniel Murphy It’s the organ
Muddy Waters could play this...oops...no, I mean this sounds like muddy waters!! He used all of his extremities except one.
I Saw Him Years Ago In Schenectady NY & He Played The Same Piece Flawlessly But I Hate This Updated Version.
Never point to your audience, chimps point to start a fight. Love your audience, love the instrument and love your self. Do that and people will truly love you even if you just play Mary had a little lamb...... Riding the crechindo and tuti of coarse :-D
3rd rate organist at best.
Ouch...
Disgusting
ATLKapellmeister your right it's horrible
Why the reed on the solo manual?
If this is the organ at the NHK hall, then that's a real shame - this console is clearly dying (after the pedal piccolo part look at what happens, when he's playing - 4th manual silent, then it has ciphers on a strong reed stop). The best part starts at 2:50
I love cameron But it sure looks likes he's struggling with that console and the sounds.. I don't blame him cause it's one of the worst sounding pipe organs i have ever heard lol
really dont know what to make of this.......i dont hate it but i sure dont love it im just like :- l .............

This is a bastardized version of one of the most badass American songs ever.
I love listening to Cameron but I will have to say I dislike this piece and it is not him it has to be the organ he is playing...............

why ask for their clapping along? you only go at your own pace anyway.. but well done!
this organ does not hold a candle to a wersi
Like that the blacks keys are white and that the white keys are black. Cameron is brilliant here as always! :)
Best
from a fellow organist I don't hear any thing wrong with the organ. . Cameron is such an awesome organist . he will make any thing sound great.
thanks for this information.
Wow. Amazing. Everyone complaining... but I never saw a man with this technique...
Problem is, most of us LIKE Cameron. We know what he's capable of, and this was..... Painful. It's very clearly a problem with the console, not Cameron. He's talented beyond imagination.
The struggle on this organ.. Its definitely not Camerons fault.
its about the regestration not the organ's fault
Amazing
Needs to work on percussion timing, but souls good otherwise. Sousa would be proud.
he is such a wounderfull artist. and loves preforming to his audiences.and such agreat master at the organ.
Guys Cameron may be hated but I have met him he is truly a great person I am an organist my self and I love his work so stop being rude and keep your rude opinions to yourself and if he read this he'd be really disappointed that people think so low of him so lay off him.
