Sometimes starter gear can be to close to flywheel gear. Shims are used to increase the clearance. When you buy a new starter most come with at least two shims. Also double check starter mounting bolts to block. They should be torqued at 30 ft lbs. Make sure gear on starter and flywheel are in good shape too. All these issues can cause a noisy grinding starter sound and cause premature starter failure.
I did a 350 bored .030 over, dished pistons, roller cam (thumper comp cam), performance water pump, fuel pump, dual plane intake edelbrok intake, 600 holley carb, 305 heads with 1.94s and 1.72s and performance springs, aluminum radiator, electric fans, hedman long tube headers and a red clutches th350 with shift kit, what do you think of this set up? And 2200 stall
It made low end power but the stock heads held it back alot. But the big mutha thumpr cam made more power throughout the whole powerband. But I now have aftermarket heads.
@@Runitupracing hell yea man I was gunna go with the extreme energy cam but i wasn’t really with the sound that it makes almost sound like a stock cam I appreciate the info bro imma about to make my order pretty soon
@@Runitupracing i kinda figured that, usually lower lift and long duration cams are designed for torque but not with a LSA 107° that most thumpr cams have. The other engine sounds good! You ever mess with solid lifter cams? Thanks for replying back, a lot of people dont. Take care and have a good day!
Mutha Thumpr cams, like whats in this motor, make power in mid-upper rpms so you want good flowing, ported heads. Also, they need higher compression due to the valve overlap.
Dont have that motor anymore. it had stock smog heads. With 650 holley dp 1 1/2 headers. Sound like No Exhaust on it,keep Working!!!
Sounds good. 👍🏿like to hear it with mufflers and starter shimmed 🙃 Keep at it.
Built a new 355 for car in new video and thanks
What does shimming a starter do

Thats a old setup but it was a 650dp.
I’m building a 350 with a thumper cam ,air gap intake, headers ,2500 stall. you think a 650 will work ? Stock heads for now .
If your are just street driving yes you will be good. You will have to play around with jetting to get it perfect.
Wouldn't change a thing! Nice!
This is an old set up. Check out other vids to see current set up its a lot better then this. And thanks for watching
You better not take that ball hitch off that's the best part
I been removed it now you got me wanting it back check out some of my latest videos the motor and whole car has changed and thanks for watching 😁
How is the power brakes with this cam
I don't have that motor any more but it stopped good enough for me.
Sheeesh DRUMLINE
Im wondering what heads he used,do all of these comp cams have to be 202 heads to use the 279THF7 cam?
Frome everything iv read on it u can use this cam with stock heads just have to change the valve springs to the behive style or ls6 springs

Did you have to change your push rods?? I just put thumper one my Pontiac and having some issues with pushrod length
