Perfect. Neat solution to what I want to do - remotely hide the NVR and see camera feeds on stand alone monitors in the kitchen and office without needing PCs at each location.
If I'm not mistaken, this setup assumes you have ethernet cables running inside the walls throughout your house. Maybe that's the case in Canada, but in the US that's very rare.
So my main TV has the DVR along with main HDMI cable connected to it along with the connection to the Internet router which is right next to it. I want to display the live feed to my tv in my bedroom. Which is on the other side of the house. However from my understanding is that I would have to have a cable ran from the back of the router which is in the other room in order for me to have the live view on my bedrooms TV!?
Nice, I have learned a lot about Ip security cameras from your videos and I am thinking of choosing a ptz dome that has 30x optical zoom and mount it higher to use to read license plates of cars.
Are you still happy with this extender? Is there a better solution today since this video is a few years old? Thanks for making all these videos and the help. It is greatly appreciated!
Yes, I am still happy with these extenders. I think there are wireless 4K solutions out there now, but too rich for my liking. These extenders have been flawless and I still have no complaints.
@@HomeTechDIYThank you so much for the prompt reply. Yes, there are some 4K extenders, but some of them require Cat 6 Cable. Have a great day, and enjoy the winter!

Great job explaining the set up. However I have a question that can use your expertise. How would you run a Ethernet cable & HDMI extender to the same TV?
@@HomeTechDIY I’m not sure if I’m explaining it well I know from your explanation that the Ethernet runs from the switch to the receiver but I’d like the HDMI from The receiver AND the Ethernet to connect to the back of my TV
If your TV has HDMI and an Ethernet port, yes it's possible to plug them in, but the LAN port on the TV does not accept the extender's signal. Are you wanting to use the TV's Ethernet port as an signal source input? Sorry, I'm a little confused on your goal.
I feel the same way. I use a wired connection whenever possible. This is how I have my TVs setup. Using the TV's Ethernet port, I am connected to my network's switch for all my TV content (Netflix, UA-cam, News, etc). I also have my HDMI Extender's receiver plugged into the HDMI port on my TV. When I want to see my security cameras, I push the source button on the report and the TV switches to display that HDMI port. Behind my TV, I have multiple Ethernet ports, but I also have a small 8-port switch there to split out the Ethernet connection so I have many, for gaming and other devices.

You're welcome. I don't think these extenders are available using PoE from a PoE switch, but there are some models which only have 1 power adapter and use PoE technology to power both the TX and RX. Does you need a separate router to send the signal of the transmitter through the existing network or you can use your isp provider ( Verizon, Comcast’s) router to plug the transmitter and send the signal to all your network ?
Hi, I'm Jushkyle, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. My question - I work in the Power Plant company and there are 2 buildings, the 1st building is where the NVR and Router is located and I want to set TV's in the 2nd building in order to view the CCTV footages, since we used Point-to-Point wireless bridge to provide internet in the 2nd building is it possible also to access the NVR CCTV viewing setup on TV's?
This looks like what I need just one question on this. I have several security cameras around the company that I work at so connecting this directly to nvr will display multiple cameras. Does this soultuion allow me view one particular camera to a specific TV?
No, this will not allow you to see one camera per a specific TV. The extender allows you to see your NVR screen at far distances from the NVR. When you select one camera on the NVR, that one camera will be displayed on all receivers.
Hi, nice video but will this work using a TP-link instead of the network cable. a TP-link will still send the internet through your plug socket to the other room or multiple rooms
I currently have a TV with a direct connection to the internet, not using wireless connection. I understand how to connect the sender unit the NVR but I only have 1 RJ45 jack at the TV and its used for the primary signal. It seems like I would need to run another RJ45 line behind the wall to give me another plug for the receiver. Is this true?
Yes, that is one solution, or you could add a network switch to the single line you have for your TV to split it out for more devices. I have several switches around my house because running additional lines is expensive and I don't always have the ability to get behind the walls. I have one in my office, behind 2 TVs, in my studio and a huge 48 port switch in my network room. Here is a good option: amzn.to/3NTOGU2
No, I have not noticed any ethernet performance issues while using this product. I have a gigabit network and this device only uses a fraction of this bandwidth.
Normally when we directly connect a monitor to NVR we also get to use a mouse to click on individual video streams, zoom in etc.. I guess we can't do that in this setup.. Also if you have 16 or 32 channel NVR than you basically will be seeing all the streams together and it will be very difficult to see things.
@@HomeTechDIY I was wondering the same thing. My HDMI extender also has I IR sensor I can hook up. But my nvr uses a mouse but I hoping I can use my Logitech Harmony Elite to "act" as a mouse. I have IP security camera. I want to connect the camera directly to tv without NVR. I tried all sorts of enthernet adapter to hdmi, but they did not work. Would you please direct me how to do?
Great solution vs running long HDMI single cable! I needed 50 feet and it was not OK for a while. But much better to replace a RJ45 cable running that stretch vs a HDMI. Do the RX and TX have up-gradable firmware?
Would this work for me if my internet router is in the middle of my house and my nvr is on the opposite side? Ive been wanting to be able to display my cameras in different areas of my home.
You would need a separate cable from your router to the HDMI transmitter next to the NVR. If that's not possible, you would need a 4-port switch to split the cable you currently have. That would then allow you to plug in the transmitter and the NVR into the switch, giving them both access to the network. Hope this helps.

What if I only have one Ethernet cable running to my nvidia shield/tv from upstairs POE can I split the network from the wall outlet and use one for extender/hdmi to the tv and still have internet on shield?
I know this is kinda old video but I got a pair of similar (different brand) adapters recently but I am having issues with my entire network as soon as the adapter is switched on. My entire surveillance network just go down everytime I switched on the adapter. Googled around but not much answers. Only a hand full of suggestions that this could be something call broadcast storm and so on. I wonder if your adapter is different?
I had a similar issue a few weeks ago with these extenders. I lost internet for about an hour. I am still not convinced that the extenders caused the issue, but I haven't used them in a while and the timing is almost too coincidental. I would start off by downloading Fing to PC or a mobile device and check out the IP addresses and see if there are any duplicates. Also remove everything from the network with the exception of the extenders and slowly start adding devices. Hopefully someone with more network experience can also chime in here.
@@HomeTechDIY thank for replying. My local seller suggested me to use an isolated network for that purpose only. And that to me defeats the purposes of blending in my existing network. I actually tried again yesterday. Making sure I have enable igmp snooping for my network switches and router. No luck, as soon as I switched on the sender unit, the entire wired network went haywire. This time round I noticed that the sender unit has all led lit up. Meanwhile receiver unit did not (indicating it’s not working as intended according to the user manual). Not sure what’s wrong, my tv shows no signal. It is as thou the receiver do not know how to receive the signal. Meanwhile sender just blast all datas into the network.
Yeah, that is strange. Maybe test with a simpler setup. Try running a ethernet cable between the transmitter and receiver, with no network in between. That should help pinpoint if it's an issue with the hardware.
Does anyone know of a device to which you can take the video out of a nvr/DVR and distribute it throughout the house thru coax and have it displayed thru the TV tuner. Most hd TV tuners can do 1080 these days and hardly anyone uses the tuners on their TV's
You can use a hdmi to coax modulator www.provideoinstruments.com/HDMI-TO-COAX-Converter_p_92.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw8LTmBRBCEiwAbhh-6LgxSi39Cx2D4IAJoZhEHwjqNtE0COuwEODM7sGKy9PPOrpf96PgDxoCyUgQAvD_BwE
Can you send the HDMI output from to NVR CCTV to a Network switch that shares both IP traffic and this device? I mean can I just connect this to anywhere on my network just like a computer and receive the feed? even if it's across multiple switches?
Unfortunately not. This is basically an extension of the HDMI port. If the NVR has multiple HDMI ports and the ability to separate cameras, they the extenders would be able to broadcast that.
Hi I'm Ron. I'm needing to do the same kind of thing for a recording environment where musicians all need to see the same video feed so they can all see each other in realtime. It appears that the latency in your video is being introduced prior to your network. Do you know if it's possible to achieve less latency? Thank you for this video. Nicely done.
Hey Ron. Thanks for the question. I'm not sure how to achieve less latency here in this situation. I'm not sure if a lower quality image would be faster.
Hello dude whats i have a question . I have about 63 ip camera all connected to one poe switch and i wanna use two nvr each 32 ch. Connected to two tvs each tvs shows about 31 ip camera is it possible ?
I have a question why can't you use the extra ports on the router instead of a network switch. Must it go the the network switch. Thanks just trying to learn something as I am installing a security system in the home. Thanks Mike
In a 16 camera system, with 3 TVs. Can I display 16 cameras in TV1. 8 on TV2 and 4 in TV3? Assume that I want to give limited access to TV2 and TV3? Thanks for your answer.
I doubt it would be possible with any consumer brand NVR. Your system would need to be highly flexible. The only option I can think of would be to use multiple NVRs.
Hi Thanks for the video. My transmitter and receiver works if I plug them directly from one to the other, but when I involve a switch, I cannot get it to work. I need to use this system to get the signal from the NVR upstairs to the TV downstairs which has a Cat5 socket going to the switch. Please can you advise what I'm doing wrong? I have tested all of the cables and sockets with other devices and they all work. Thank you!
You will need to connect a router to your setup. Your modem may have built-in router. You can connect your switch to the modem/router that should allow the transmitter and receiver to communicate with each other over your network.
@@HomeTechDIY Thank you for your reply. I have connected the switch to the router and then all of the cables around the house go into that, ie. the Cat5 socket behind the TV. I know that socket works because it connects to on-line TV and also to a laptop. Any ideas please?
That is odd. Are the yellow lights on the transmitter and on the receiver flashing while the green lights are steady on? Does the TV downstairs support these devices? In my video one of my TV's didn't support the receiver and gave me a unsupported message. The TV should show something; either show no signal or unsupported when connected to the receiver on the correct input/source.
@@HomeTechDIY Thank you for coming back. They are showing a pink/blue light and working correctly through a computer monitor if I connect the two together. As soon as I put them through a router or switch then no signal gets picked up by using the same monitor. It's like the cabling cannot find the connection through the Cat5 cables. It's weird!
Sounds interesting, but what about NVR and network over Wi-Fi, can I watch live or recorded video from the recorder on my smart TV, just like watching the same on my smartphone via the appropriate App? If it's an Android smart TV, why there isn't an App to watch live, captured or recorded security video from a remote controller? All the Apps there are on Smart TV are movie Apps, UA-cam, Netflix, Foxtel, etc. Paying so much for a Smart TV and can't even get the same Apps you get on mobiles? Not so smart, is it?
A splitter allows you to run an HDMI cable from the source to multiple HDMI destinations; all using HDMI cables. This extender allows you to a) use a networking cable to go from source to destination, or b) use your home network to carry the HDMI signal and extract it anywhere on the network. Hope this helps.
I want to see my camera footage wirelessly, meaning I want to have a screen set up in a different house, what’s your suggestion how I should set it up? Pc on a stick and view it online? Or chromecast?
Assuming you are running a PC to view the cameras, you easiest solution would be to use PC on a stick and install TeamViewer. As long as you have the bandwidth and capacity to transfer a lot of data it should be fine.
I would like to do a similar setup but without using a NVR and using a PC instead of the NVR and running iSpy. Do you have a video of this or can you please make one.. I am in Melbourne Australia. I presently run a laptop with iSpy on it recording from a UBS camera at the front door and would like to put a POE camera there instead so I do not have to run a power lead for the camera and have it connected to my PC and my home network and viewable in the loungeroom and or another PC or a screen in the kitchen as my PC/server and network setup is 12mtrs away up the front of the house.
I touch on using these extenders at 6:41 and noted that it works, but the signal isn't very clear and the screen didn't fit the TV correctly. Maybe if I tested various resolutions, it would work better. If you are using a laptop, you could extend your display to one of these transmitters.
Sorry about that. Your questioning if I have a video of connecting the HDMI extenders to a PC instead of an NVR. No, I don't currently have a video dedicated to this configuration. This video however shows multiple setups including using them over a PC. I currently do not have plans to show this more detail in a future video.

Your channel continues to provide brilliant help for aspiring IP-CCTV hobbyists, many thanks newfiebort. I am about to choose a solution such as the one you have so helpfully described here, for my Hikvision NVR & Cams setup. One question regarding your experiences with this kit: have you successfully run these units on your main home network, alongside all the other no-CCTV network devices on that network? I ask because none of the other offerings available on the web seem to offer that 'USP' ('unique selling point'); most explicitly state they cannot be used this way. Do the HDMI devices network signals need to be configured into a separate VLAN perhaps? Many thanks.

You can use a hdmi to coax modulator
www.provideoinstruments.com/HDMI-TO-COAX-Converter_p_92.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw8LTmBRBCEiwAbhh-6LgxSi39Cx2D4IAJoZhEHwjqNtE0COuwEODM7sGKy9PPOrpf96PgDxoCyUgQAvD_BwE
hey can i connect mesh system between the hdmi extender?
I don't see why not, but I've never tested it personally.
Can you send the HDMI output from to NVR CCTV to a Network switch that shares both IP traffic and this device? I mean can I just connect this to anywhere on my network just like a computer and receive the feed? even if it's across multiple switches?
Yes, this device connects just like a computer. Plug it in anywhere on the network and extract it anywhere. Yes, this works across multiple switches.
Is it possible to display different cameras in seperate screens?
So what brand was it in the video

Hello dude whats i have a question .
I have about 63 ip camera all connected to one poe switch and i wanna use two nvr each 32 ch. Connected to two tvs each tvs shows about 31 ip camera is it possible ?
How do I get this device in Nigeria
Is there a way to stream what's on my cameras from one house's TV(network) to a completely different house with a different network?
I have a question why can't you use the extra ports on the router instead of a network switch. Must it go the the network switch. Thanks just trying to learn something as I am installing a security system in the home. Thanks Mike
Yes, you can use the extra ports on your router instead of a switch. Use any ports on your network and it will work. Hope this helps.
@@HomeTechDIY so if I have this right I can plug the extenders into the back of the router that would be the transmitters correct
What cables use? Cat 5e or cat 6 ?
Either cable would work fine.
@@HomeTechDIY Thanks for your answer. I understand. I didn't want to use multiple NVR. Hope there is a way to do that.
Interesting and I will try it.
Can an HDMI splitter do the same thing?
How can i extend the screen when the nxt point is about 60 meters away from the DVR
You could use a long cat6 cable, like this one: amzn.to/3AbLKzf
is it possible to use for 130 mtr long distance
Nice video! Does this setup work through patchbay???
Isn't Patchbay for audio? I didn't think it had RJ-45 connections.
Yes, this extender will work is you use a patch panel.
@@HomeTechDIY You didn't answer my question.... but thanks for the reply.
Sorry about that. Your questioning if I have a video of connecting the HDMI extenders to a PC instead of an NVR. No, I don't currently have a video dedicated to this configuration. This video however shows multiple setups including using them over a PC. I currently do not have plans to show this more detail in a future video.
1080 only?
Great, Thank you
Hello, I have this it works with my sky box, but doesn't work when I put it in my CCTV unit any suggestions ?
Hi sir , I have on dout, total 32 camera, how to show complete camera on TV , DVR monitor showing completely, but this DVR connected to another tv , this TV showing only 16 camera, another camera showing next slide show, so how I can do complete camera show one screen , pls reply
Have you used the hdmi extenders with ir control?
No, I have not
What to do if i want to split 16 camera on two TV? 8 cameras on each TV? With this system? Is it possible?
Can you connect the cat 5 from the sender through the wall outlet cat 5 and connect say upstairs on another cat 5 wall outlet to the receiver ? Or do I have to fish a cat5 cable
Yes, as long as all the wires lead back to a router or modem.
@@HomeTechDIY Thank you so much. I will try this hope it works !!
@@HomeTechDIY It didn't work. Connected hdmi from sender to tv & cat 6 cable from sender to router then cat cable from router to cat wall Jack then cable from upstairs cat wall jack to the receiver then hdmi to tv. I'm I missing something?
I have a question regarding the DVR and NVR is it possible to control the dvr via mouse on a different screen with a ir receiver in this setup?
How
I have a question sir supposed i hv 16 ip camera setup and need to show all 16 cam to 4 places then your device works fine but at the same time I want to show specific 4 or more cameras to a company secretary or let's say 4 director 4 different camera on the TV then how to setup the device
In that case, this video is useless . You would have to place Standalone NVR, and add wanted ip adresses to that nvr
How I can split 8 channels console to what 4 cameras on echa tv ?
Your NVR would need that ability. These extenders simply duplicate your NVR's display.
Hi sir. I have doubt. My nvr is nearest to wifi router so can i use hdmi receiver rx only?
You would need a minimum of a TX and a RX. The system will not work with just a RX.
hi am i able to email you with some hik vision setup questions please?
Can you add ADT cameras to night owl security system on a monitor
Is there a way yo do this wirelessly? I don't have network connections at each TV. TIA
I haven't personally used this one, but it should do the trick: amzn.to/3bXkS4t
Please brief the every mechanism parts setup name.
The receiver and transmitter links are in the description, including the HDMI cables used. Do you have a question on a particular component?
Does this work with dvr ?
Yes, as long as the DVR has an HDMI out port.
Is this the only option
I am close to finalizing a system on a very large house. THe system has over 20 cameras, so using a hdmi extender will help a lot. however, one of the challenges that i need to solve is how to enlarge one frame of the "grid" of cameras. my hdmi extender has the capacity to use I/R transmit and receive, but the NVR from GW Security does not have any i/r connections. Anyone have an idea how to enlarge a single camera in a system like this?
How to keep camera already wired
Where the record will be saved ?
In my example, the PC and NVR can both record footage.
is there a 4k version
I don't think there is a 4k version over IP. Are you looking for a IP based solution or peer-to-peer with a single CAT6 cable?
@@HomeTechDIY ip based
Ok cool. I had a second look but nothing is popping out for an IP based solution for 4k on an existing network.
@@HomeTechDIY what kind of cams do you have are the lorex bullet cameras any good?
I have Hikvision, Reolink, WYZE and some smaller brand names. Yes, from what I hear, Lorex is a decent brand.
What setting on network switch? It is default?
Yes, default. It's also an unmanaged switch but that shouldn't make a difference as long as it's not on a different VLAN.
Thnx for share.. use full video
IP cam only?
No, any HDMI source to destination.
what happens if you plug in multiple transmitters..Is it possible to set up which transmitter the receiver points to?
No, I don't believe you can have multiple transmitters on the same network.
Link to cameras showed?
What
I was just looking for a solution to this very problem.
but you did not test with cable over long distances...
Is there a way to do this through an app on smart tvs… without a hard wire connection? Thank you!!
Maybe I missed your explanation, but I have cable TV (coaxial) wires in several rooms and would like to be able to hook up some type of inexpensive monitor screens.
Where do I hook up those coaxial cables? Or are they useless for this purpose?
PLEASE help me, and if you have any suggestions for inexpensive monitors. I have ADT security.
Hey! Thanks for the kinds words! Yes, I run these on my home network and through my switch with a lot of non-CCTV and non-IPC related devices. I have Netflix, TVs, laptops, desktops, Sonos, Airport express, NASs and printers all on the same wired network. I have not tired the HDMI device on a VLAN. Hope this helps.
@@HomeTechDIY Great, many thanks for confirming. Sounds to be just what I need :-)
