Thank you. You helped me free my trial run insert. I had to keep re-tightening the locknuts down on the insert as I worked the insert out. Took a few minutes of alternating locking the nuts firmly back down on the top of the insert with then unscrewing the hex nut head. Success. Thanks!
Great tool use demo. I'm repairing chairs where the insert has loosened over time. As an FYI, I recently learned a trick to make the threaded insert super secure: wet the inside of the hole and apply Gorilla Glue to the outside of the insert. This glue expands when activated with water, so it fills any space. These suckers will never loosen again - they better not, ugh. Your bolt and nuts trick, that was new to me. Thanks!
How did you go about wetting the inside of the whole? Did you use a Q-tip or something? I'm having the same issue. I just completed a table build, and the inserts keep popping up when I type in my bolts. It's so frustrating
Perfect, just finished a guitar build and one of the inserts I used to secure the neck to the body was off just enough to trigger my OCD, I was just about to drill the insert out and plug the hole and re-drill it but shoot if I can save the insert and reuse it that's better Thanks for the great tip!

I used this method on a Telecaster neck with 4 threaded inserts already in it to REMOVE all 4. Get the locking nuts tight and then the threaded screw can 'back out' the threaded insert. It is tedious but does work.
Thanks for this great, simple fix but I have a different issue and can't find any videos on it. I have a boat about the same size as the one your video and it's halfway thru a 2x4. On the exit end between where the threads begin and the end of the bolt, is a brass thread insert, stuck on there. I had to yank it out of the butt of another 2x4 because the bolt was just spinning inside there with the thread insert when I tried to unscrew it. Can I crack it off or something? Or do I just need to cut off one side of the bolt and get new hardware?

I would guess that the nut probably isn’t tight enough to the insert. If you can’t get the nut tight enough to the threaded insert to grip it well, you can apply a drop of blue Loctite to the bolt before you thread it into the insert. Tighten the nut as much as you can, wait a few hours for the Loctite to cure and then give it a go. I would think you just have a very tight insert, but that’s just my best guess without having more detail.
Is it necessary to damage the laminate (1:00) when you do this or could you be a bit more careful? Maybe use spanners for better control, you know, the tool for the job.
Not all of threaded inserts have the screwdriver slot. A client I sent something to had a non-slotted type insert come loose. Just used what I had available in the shop to demonstrate the repair. Never expected any other views. But yes, in any other circumstance, slotted brass inserts should be inserted the other way!

If you put the insert in the other way, you can use a flat head screwdriver to remove and replace
