I remembered this song because I have a cassette that I "recorded it on a Panasonic old boom box cassette recording, this song was number 17 on the count down to america at the time I recorded it and still have it.♡
Bought it when it was released (vinyl), It´s a true jem. Still in mint condition, and the music is eternal. Brings back memories… and shows how important Dennis deYoung was according to Styx. They lost all flare when he" left" the band.
This is Dennis DeYoung’s only solo hit away from STYX: DESERT MOON. It’s a fine power ballad and one grand performance from him. Kenneth Huang 2/18/23.
Yes I remember this song/ album....fall of 1984....I was 16, my first true love also 16 and pregnant...my daughter Brandi Lynn was born earlier that year in February. Sadly she passed in Sept 1984. Our relationship was not meant to be...my first true love...I hope you are doing well Bonny where ever you are today....and Brandi sweetheart...you are missed XOXOXO
"Is this the train to Desert Moon?" was all she said But I knew I'd heard that stranger's voice before I turned to look into her eyes But she moved away She was standing in the rain Trying hard to speak my name They say first love never runs dry The waiter poured our memories in a tiny cup We stumbled over words we longed to hear We talked about the dreams we'd lost or given up When the whistle caught the night And shook silence from my life As the last train rolled toward the dune Those summer nights When we were young We bragged of things we'd never done We were dreamers, only dreamers And in our haste to grow too soon We left our innocence on Desert Moon We were dreamers, only dreamers On Desert Moon, on Desert Moon On Desert Moon, Desert Moon I still can hear the whisper of the summer nights It echoes in the corners of my heart The night we stood and waited for the desert train All the words we meant to say All the chances swept away Still remain on the road to the dune Those summer nights, when we were young We bragged of things we'd never done We were dreamers, only dreamers Moments pass, and time moves on But dreams remain for just as long as there's dreamers All the dreamers On Desert Moon, on Desert Moon On Desert Moon, Desert Moon
I came from Habana Cuba, for me was very very difficult to know who was singing this the song at that time I do not speak English so all this music from the 70s 80s or 90s I missing so much this band Styx, Boston, Kansas, sweet, the cars, Rod Speedway, and many many Others Rock Bands still living in my heart at the bottom of my heart.. For the rest of my days,God bless all these guy's,God bless all these bandages musicians writers and many others people who work very hot every day for make his music one of the first of the Hit and also an unforgettable music for a lifetime, now i just wanted to say thanks to all of them for made that man that I ain't right now with the feeling and mentality that I got so once again many thanks to all this people who will stay my memory forever, god blesse to all of you people....
One of the greatest rock ballads of all time. Fitting since STYX also arguably had the greatest rock song of all time in "Come Sail Away". Tommy Shaw's "small man syndrome" killed that band by chasing DeYoung out of it.
its august 24 2017 i have tickets for dennis on august 25,,,,,got a text today that the show is canceled, because he is ill. I hope he will be okay, but I am so sad i was soooo looking forward to seeing him! He is a terrific song writer who has an amazing voice!,,,,,may have been my last chance to see him. :( :(
Both Steve and Dennis can sing. These guys are not really Rock singers they are Crooner Ballad Type Singers. Besides Paul Rodgers already has the title of the best Rock Singer. Don't take my word for it that just seems to be the consensus.
I think in some impossible way if Styx coulda held it together they could of pulled thru BUT the 80s was a big band break up era. Who's the real leader syndrome. I think if they could brought in a more credible outside producer like Bob Ezrin RT Baker or even Tom Werman. David Foster was real busy with pet projects but this was the key. Styx wants to desperately be larger than sound. It's theatre rock with elements of hard rock and pop rock. Shaw and Co wanted to be the Rolling Stone Eagles hybrid! Also Mick Jones of Foreigner made for these guys. Just a thought.
It's a shame Deyoung left Styx on a bad note (if I remember what I've heard correctly) but he certainly has made quite a name for himself since in the solo market
Love this song so much I cry!
I had this on cassette back in 1984.
How I love this song, and his voice!
The official video is HORRIBLE but I love this song. It brings back so many memories and evokes so many emotions.
I remembered this song because I have a cassette that I "recorded it on a Panasonic old boom box cassette recording, this song was number 17 on the count down to america at the time I recorded it and still have it.♡
DE LAS MEJORES CANCIONES QUE HE ESCUCHADO... SOLO PODRIA ESCUCHARSE ASI EN LA PRECIOSA VOZ DE Dennis !!!
EXCELENTISIMA !

would listen for this song all time on the radio...
La, WONDERFULL, Balada, Qué. Amo, Mucho, Del. Gran. Y. Genial ...Dennis. De. Young. ♥️💯🤟🎼🎧🇺🇸🙋♂️
If I could go back to anytime in my life it would be the 80's. People seemed to actually get alone then.
This is Dennis DeYoung’s only solo hit away from STYX: DESERT MOON. It’s a fine power ballad and one grand performance from him.
Kenneth Huang 2/18/23.
I’m from Alabama. I loved Tom and the rest of the band. They were so unique and delivered true artistry.
1978,lost my girl, this always brings her back to me,,,,🐺
Mine was 1977.
Brings back a lot of memories from the Fall of 1984
Yup that's exactly when this was a hit.
Redline Date in History ~
Man I truly agree! Class of 84' where did that go?
I was only 12 years old when I first heard it and saw the video, but I loved it immediately. I have ever since.

The 1980's was great music........... period.
+Jack Davis damn right!
yeah todays music doesnt have emotion like the 80s did
"Is this the train to Desert Moon?" was all she said
But I knew I'd heard that stranger's voice before
I turned to look into her eyes
But she moved away
She was standing in the rain
Trying hard to speak my name
They say first love never runs dry
The waiter poured our memories in a tiny cup
We stumbled over words we longed to hear
We talked about the dreams we'd lost or given up
When the whistle caught the night
And shook silence from my life
As the last train rolled toward the dune
Those summer nights
When we were young
We bragged of things we'd never done
We were dreamers, only dreamers
And in our haste to grow too soon
We left our innocence on Desert Moon
We were dreamers, only dreamers
On Desert Moon, on Desert Moon
On Desert Moon, Desert Moon
I still can hear the whisper of the summer nights
It echoes in the corners of my heart
The night we stood and waited for the desert train
All the words we meant to say
All the chances swept away
Still remain on the road to the dune
Those summer nights, when we were young
We bragged of things we'd never done
We were dreamers, only dreamers
Moments pass, and time moves on
But dreams remain for just as long as there's dreamers
All the dreamers
On Desert Moon, on Desert Moon
On Desert Moon, Desert Moon

Great song. Seen it a lot on MT USA years ago. Vincent Hanley was a legend.
One of the greatest rock ballads of all time. Fitting since STYX also arguably had the greatest rock song of all time in "Come Sail Away". Tommy Shaw's "small man syndrome" killed that band by chasing DeYoung out of it.
Yep huge power struggle...sad...they are bound together regardless
Agreed!!! I like to call the little shit Napoleon Hitler. Dennis is Styx and you couldn't drag me to those other shitheads!!!

Both Steve and Dennis can sing. These guys are not really Rock singers they are Crooner Ballad Type Singers. Besides Paul Rodgers already has the title of the best Rock Singer. Don't take my word for it that just seems to be the consensus.
