Wow so glad i come across your video you have done a great job, im looking to do the same thing and this is awesome as you used aluminium and not treated pine and 9mm ply, i only have a 5hp johnno and was worried about extra weight thank for sharing your video
Great project and great job! looks professional. Please vent the rear area where you tank is because fumes can sit back there. I have responded to to many incidents caused by that. It can blow like a bomb.
Thanks for the comment. It actually is vented, Its a bit hard to see in the video but there is plenty of air space around the outboard mounting and the rod holders also have vent holes in them as well and its its not a tight seal around the fuel tank area.
Mate that thing is a weapon. Wish I had your skills. I'm about to start doing a few little mods to my tinny so I'll be taking a few pointers from you. Love that switch box btw.
Nice build mate looks great was wondering how you attached the seat bases, bolts or just self tapping screws ? as i cant put my hand under my bench to attach nuts and bolts
I glued some laminated marine ply blocks with contact adhesive to the original aluminium seat and then laid the carpeted marine ply decking over the top, and attached that to the new framework with stainless steel screws (framework was also siliconed and screwed to the the original seat) and then used some really heavy gauge stainless steel screws (14 gauge x 50mm from memory) to go through the lot. This made it really solid and I didn't need to access under the seat which was full of flotation foam anyway.
Nice job Dave. Looks fantastic! Not sure how you managed the $500 budget. Haven't been able to get too many replies out of guys adding decking and storage to their their aluminum boats. Can you help with a few questions, how is the stability, how much loss have you experienced to top speed and gas mileage?
+Edwardo Perez The stability is better and so is mine;). Not tripping over floor stringers. Top speed doesn't seem to have changed much. It may be down slightly but not that much that you notice. 2 adults and its up on the plane. 3 adults struggles a bit
+snowball693 Haven't noticed that much difference. with only a 15hp it struggles with 3 adults but with two its fine. 3 is probably too crowded anyway in a 12 ft tinny
what sort of speeds are you getting? my little 3.4m has a similar deck setup and a 15hp johnno on the back. cruises at 25-28kph with two 80kg adults and their fishing gear
To be honest I haven't had the GPS on it. It is slightly slower with the new setup, and just by myself it is certainly fast enough for me. I wouldn't want to go into a full rate turn as it would throw me out. 2 adults and their gear certainly gets it up on the plane and hustling along. It would struggle a little if we did an overnighter with swags, stove gas etc and fishin gear. But a day trip works fine.
hey mate can you tell me more about how you did the anchor well? Did you just use a angle grinder to cut her out? then with what you installed did you bend it all together and use sikaflex or something? great work mate... im based in melbourne... going from your voice i dare say your from Aus....
Marked and cut the foredeck with a jigsaw with bi-metal blade. I used the lid off my old anchor box to make the sides and then used the piece I cut out of the foredeck for the bottom pf the well. It is basically the four sides sliconed and pop rivetted to angles at the bottom and sides and then a bead of silicone and another angle down the vertical joints and then lined the inside with marine carpet. It is then attached to the foredeck with another 4 thicker (3mm) angles pop rivteted and siliconed to the foredeck. Had to use thicker angle for this as I cut through a strengthening member under the foredeck

I was aiming for $500, but it cost me a little extra for the contact adhesive and some other incidentals. $175.00 for the carpet, $100 for the seat pedestals, $134 for marine plywood, about $150 for aluminium tube and nylon fittings, about $100 for contact adhesive. Considering I had an $80.00 voucher that covered the seat pedestals, I was about $79 over budget
Wow you knocked it out of the park! I have an 18' Crestliner that I am planning a similar upfit on. Great ideas! Fish on!
You have done a great job. Just got a 12 foot tinny myself and looking at doing something similar.
Give it a go. You won't regret it
Looks amazing. I've got a 12 foot V hull and I think I'll steal some of your ideas for my refurbish project.
No problems. That's what its here for to help others
That is a killer set up well done

Forgot to add that I have a fire extinguisher in one of the forward compartments as well

Great job, thinking of doing something similar with my quinny behind the rear bench.
like a brand new boat nice Work
Looks awesome bud
+Bennos78 Thanks Mate
sweet job 👍
to keep the pedestal seat in place you only need to buy some electrical pieces that keep the cable in place, use this on the pedestal base
I got the pedestal base and pole from BCF (Boating Camping Fishing) store. Cost about $50.00 each
Great job mate, I'm about to do something similar, where did you find the swivel seat with extention? It's a great idea.
+matt8383ful Thanks. BCF in Sydney had the pedestal and base kit. I think I got them on special at $50.00

here's a video of it on the water. ua-cam.com/video/9NxuobIflHs/v-deo.html
How's it been on the water for you with the extra weight? Looks great!!

Very tidy job mate. How has the connect-it system been holding up? Has it been meeting your structural expectations?
Connect system is great. every bit as stable and I expected and as strong. Easy to work with too.
Looking for a tinny project ATM
Did u use 12mm ply? Just bought a 12ft tinny gonna do something like this
No I actually used 9mm marine ply (hardwood) as it was strong enough with the aluminum supports
What sort of tinny is this (Brand and model)
Its a Bermuda Discovery 3.7m which is exactly the same as a Quintrex explorer 370. Came from same factory
Dave Boxwell ok thanks can u make a video on how to make the anchor well
