+TruthSurge I can tilt my guitar any way - upside down, or inside out...I will never be able to to anything like that. My fingers are just not long enough :/
For all the little handed people doubting yourselves to play this song. Look up 11 year old Anton Oparin playing Scarified. If his "then" little boy fingers can play this song very accurately. So can you.
This man will be forever be a treasure! We have been blessed with some amazing guitar players in the 90s, 00’s and later. Satch, Petrucci, Gilbert, Vai, Van Halen, Guthrie Govan… endless list of fantastic players… Before that though we had the song writer/virtuosos… Brian May, Mark Knopfler, EVH, Zeppelin/Paige, Blackmoor, Clapton, Santana… endless list again. Right back to the early legends from way back. We have been spoilt for choice by some truly amazing instrumentalists/musicians
Funny thing thought, Paul himself says he doesn't play at 100% because if you need to speed up a little you won't have room, so he plays at around 80% to 85% potential just in case he has to step on the gas he'll have plenty of potential. I play at 100% all the time and it's still not good enough, Paul doesn't play at full potential and he's still at God tier level. I'm raging with envy.
GoSTeX - Fun | Gaming Exactly ! They are perfect ! Everbody is talking about his alternate picking, but I think I like him even more for his bends and vibratos!
Excellent !!! His picking technic is always, for me, the best and so perfect....he can change sound by whanging just a little th picking attack angle to bruch or to cut...or falt...I m rellay scared by all the job during all these years....and to always see him so simple and cool.. Great musician and human being...
Guess what happened in our guitar heads when we got this song on a record inside of Guitar Player magazine 1988/89. One of this guitar moments one lived through.
Has anyone noticed that whatever amp Paul plays through, whether its a Marshall, Laney, Boogie. He sounds exactly the same? He's playing through a Road King in this video. AMAZING!!! If thats not pure mastered technique then i don't know what is.
Damn 2007 days haha im just only 7 at that time i start play guitar at 11 years old i lately discovered paul Gilbert around 2015 2016 i guess in teen ager days
You should listen to PG talk about how he played for the first several years. Its hillarious how bad he said he was in the beginning. He must have had a very good teacher at University.
I remember reading this comment like 6 months ago, i didn't believe you and then i looked at a tab :L......its taken me 6 months but i can finally play it....sort of :P haha
Just lightly touch the string [don't fret it] on the third fret of the D string. He usually picks it from the other side of the string [closer to the nut] but I'm reasonably sure it'll work from either side. He might have gotten the A# harmonic in there too, for that you'd have to get the 3rd fret of the G string when you pick the harmonic.
I see Paul is using a Mesa Boogie Road King there. Sweet amp, but i think Rivera are the most underrated amps. And before someone say Mesa Boogie are the best, i would like to point out that Paul Rivera made amps for Mesa Boogie. Check them out!!!
They do its true, don't get me wrong even people with below average/smaller hands can get just as good as this technically and even in general shredding/hand/picking speed, but I think its fair to state that those with large hands and very long fingers like Gilberts Pinky for example definitely have a legit advantage over others for sure, He still puts in just as much practice time as anyone, if not more!,but it's likely that he was able to do more complex patterns/movements/arpeggios etc quicker and more efficiently with greater speed earlier and quicker than say someone with little girly man hands could lol.
1,5 are played which leaves modes completely out because minor nor major really exsists when the 7th or ,3rd is not added.i went to git with gilbert and assure you he transposed minor to major and starts his scales off all major related keys.saying i play in gmajor start a solo on a gmajor chord play a 5 4 back to 1 "gmajor" and resolve on a 5th or a gnote even e note is correct when your speaking of modes which are scales within scales.but modes are based on the chord progression in that key.
The person yelling Scarified was me lmao Paul was a class act! Still signed all my stuff!
I love Paul Gilbert. I love this song. I will learn this song, and then I will die.
Ravi Teja I just learned it and the hardest part is definitely that last string skipping arpeggio sequence. it's a bitch lol
do you pick everything? cant find proper tabs
kotdrauf no its legato. it'll be almost impossible to pick all of it haha
R.I.P.
Paul teaches the arpeggio outro section in this vid - ua-cam.com/video/oKvIAuXMl7U/v-deo.html
3:04 haha when PG has to tilt the guitar up like that to get the reaches, what chance do mere mortals have???
+TruthSurge he actually learned to do it without having to do it anymore.
+TruthSurge I can tilt my guitar any way - upside down, or inside out...I will never be able to to anything like that. My fingers are just not long enough :/
+MrCorvusC yep. long fingers are better I think. So, do what you can and don't lose sleep over it.
I have fairly small fingers and I can do it don't doubt yourself! 👍

Paul Gilbert is a true master and one of my favorite guitarist!
It's called Scarified because when you try to learn this song, all the shredding makes you shit your pants.
Unbelievable playing. Gilbert is a God. And, my Lord, are his hands huge! Alien like fingers. 😳
He has put those blessed hands to use.what a perfect name for that song
pure wizardry. i think i'm gonna have to start practicing for entire days.
that last lick... HOW DOES HE DO IT?!?!?!
This Never gets old-LOL
this is crazy...the rythym riff to this song could be a solo in itself
Yes even its already 15 year's still love it haha
''I'll do my best to play it with my ibanez guitar'' He nailed every part of it! xD
Funny thing thought, Paul himself says he doesn't play at 100% because if you need to speed up a little you won't have room, so he plays at around 80% to 85% potential just in case he has to step on the gas he'll have plenty of potential. Paul maked that riff so amazing
There´s a German in the crowd, shouting: "SCARRRIFIED... YESSS, YESSS!"
i just know he sat in that crowd and watched in awe
Not a German; it was me an excited California fan lmao.
@@darkinglory 😂👍
@RARECANDYBAR
Well if you open your ears, I don't think your mind will follow. It'll get blown away from the sheer awesomeness that is Paul Gilbert.

This is simply mindblowing…eternally

GoSTeX - Fun | Gaming Exactly ! They are perfect ! Everbody is talking about his alternate picking, but I think I like him even more for his bends and vibratos!

True master of guitar!
Man this shit still blows my mind. I remember trying to learn this via this video when I was 15. Turning 30 this year, picking up where I left off!
Absolutely terrifying technique, makes me shiver!!
Excellent !!! His picking technic is always, for me, the best and so perfect....he can change sound by whanging just a little th picking attack angle to bruch or to cut...or falt...I m rellay scared by all the job during all these years....and to always see him so simple and cool.. A great song to practice for those who want to become half as good as Paul Himself.
i just love the way his fingers look when he plays fast! They look so cool
O.O that is one godly pinky!
Is that pinky a foot long?
I think he cloned his pinky and then had it attached to his real pinky to create a super pinky.
I heard he had face hugger legs graphed to his hands.
5 inch pinky
Videos shot by guitarists are the best; what do we need to see his face for, 3 minutes of his hands will do just fine!
rigth now i'm with my mouth open... no words.
You bet your ass "WOW"! Unbelievable. Paul is THE BEST. Period.
Ouchhh.....so humble at the start and then breaks out with the shred....awesome!!!
"YES" "YES" he is!!
Open your ears and your mind will follow!!
Erhhh....okay.I guess you seem to live with that without feeling inadequate.Way to go dude.
Guess what happened in our guitar heads when we got this song on a record inside of Guitar Player magazine 1988/89. One of this guitar moments one lived through.

@FizzOfInsanity hey me too and i fuckin love this man and his genius hands
That "Yes!" kills me everytime I hear it..xD
he is like a god
Paul Gilbert is the shit. Best guitarist there is
@GoatMT It means that the key of the song is in F sharp, not the tuning.
What's nuts is that his bassist matches him note for note at some places when he needs to.
Simple. The best. LOVE U .no 💕game no play.
Damn 2007 days haha im just only 7 at that time i start play guitar at 11 years old i lately discovered paul Gilbert around 2015 2016 i guess in teen ager days
wow.
Fuck I would love to see something like this and really be there....wow.
Like a clinic with both Paul and Billy...that would be so cool
SICK
魔法のような手です^^
He is supercool...how easily he played it...
You should listen to PG talk about how he played for the first several years. Its hillarious how bad he said he was in the beginning. He must have had a very good teacher at University.
It would be cool to see a reunion. Paul should put Racer X back together for a tour.

wow. that crowd is EXTREMELY enthusiastic
идеальный переменный штрих !!))

I remember reading this comment like 6 months ago, i didn't believe you and then i looked at a tab :L......its taken me 6 months but i can finally play it....sort of :P haha
The lick from 3:04 on. Fucking hell I love it. I could listen to it all day...*drool*

Guitarrists born with pinky x-mutant gene such as PG surely have advantages :)
Rafael Vasco word up. His small finger is grossly large
They do its true, don't get me wrong even people with below average/smaller hands can get just as good as this technically and even in general shredding/hand/picking speed, but I think its fair to state that those with large hands and very long fingers like Gilberts Pinky for example definitely have a legit advantage over others for sure, He still puts in just as much practice time as anyone, if not more!,but it's likely that he was able to do more complex patterns/movements/arpeggios etc quicker and more efficiently with greater speed earlier and quicker than say someone with little girly man hands could lol.
his hands are like australian spiders
yes
for 2007 video looks good!
their speechless
Paul is up to 'So Good'!
I am scarified of this becoming a Guitar Hero track and never being able to finish it
His fingers remind me of "Alien" movie. Thanks Paul Gilbert for all UA-cam videos and guitar lessons.
dope
идеальный переменный штрих )))
1:23 - even guitar virtuosos have their mini mishaps
10% of his ability to me, God please!

*song ends* "yes! YES!" lol god that guy is such a winner
His tone here is ludicrous
