15000 Year Old Art : Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka / World Heritage Site

- Bhimbetka rock shelters, a World Heritage Site, are the oldest continuously inhabited rock shelters in India and the oldest known human settlement in the Indian subcontinent. Out of the 750 rock shelters, 500 are decorated with paintings. The site remained a centre of Human activity right from the lower Paleolithic time up to the medieval period. The area remained occupied till the 19th century AD during the Gond period.
The paintings at Bhimbetka appear from the Mesolithic period to the Historical period. These paintings show the gradual development of the social-cultural life of mankind. The rock paintings of the early phase comprise human and animal figures in linear drawings.
These caves also have a rich Buddhist past and they were home to Buddhist monks from the 2nd century BC to the 1st century AD. This is proved by the existence of Buddhist stupas in dressed stone belonging to the Sunga period. The Brahmi inscriptions on the rock shelters in Bhimbetka can be dated back to the second century BC. The Buddhist remains have been found on the northwestern slopes of Bhonrawali hill, Bineka, Bhimbetka and Lakha hills. Bhimbetka is situated in the middle of several Buddhist sites like Panguraria and Talpura, both of which go back to the third century BC.

Thanks for your kind comment. I am glad that you liked the video. It's inside a Tiger reserve, which is a protected area. This significantly reduces the challenges in the preservation of this World Heritage Site.

This cave is thought to be in time of ramayan. Though ramayan timings could be traced to 14000-7000 BC as also megalithic believe in mythology that why they made mythical creatures.

Most of the Buddhist monks practiced Buddhists philosophy and lived in jungles, so they can meditate and understand laws of nature.
No, namely called there are no "Buddhist caves" but you can find artifact and paintings in those caves of Buddhist monks.

Information were useful but bcis you took a Buddhist slant the viewers narratives are changing to a different argument or contention
If Buddhist inscriptions and stupas are found to be related then it's well and good.
However I don't see how the paintings reveal the religion - in fact all monolithic drawings never depicted association with any religion. If religion were practiced and was the center of that society or habitat per se, they wd hv clearly indicated so.
I believe this is a Buddhist inclined vdo clip and so the slant and it's understandable in that context.
However if u hd said u wd explore for more evidences of human evolution or existence that will be welcomed and if new evidences points to Buddhist associations then well and good. One point I noticed is u mentioned Pandava period but no real evidences.
To insert ur believe that it is so with evidences be it concrete or not reduces ur credibility. So it's best to be unbiased in presenting ur vdo and claims.
I m not accusing or discrediting u or ur info. I take the info posted positively as an attempt the trace our Indian roots again be it Aryan or Dravidian let alone the human race as a community.
Gving the benefit of doubt - I assume you cd not pack the video with the multitude of evidences you hv at hand and so missed mentioning them

Points well put, The caves were occupied during the palaeolithic age and the paintings are primarily mesolithic. But It was also used by Buddhist monks during the early historical era, that's all I wanted to convey. As you have rightly said that it is difficult to present all information in a single video. I am an anthropologist, so I can treat the video from a very different perspective of socio-cultural evolution, which most people have already done. But my approach was to understand these caves also from a Buddhist perspective. If you are aware Mr Yashodhar Mathpal (Padma Shri), who did extensive research on Bhimbetka (after Mr Wakankar) has also studied it from an artistic perspective because he is also a fantastic painter besides a world-known archaeologist. And as you have said the caves could be understood from different perspectives, including the Hindu one, because the remains of Hindu temples were also discovered at these sites, but perhaps it was out of the scope of this small video. Maybe sometime later I will cover it from a completely anthropological perspective, but to remove this confusion I am amending the name of the video as I felt that my choice of words was creating confusion among my viewers.

Yes, you are right that went to put forth ur views, understanding, interpretation and findings one shd avoid using ambiguous statement or words that wd lead to misunderstanding, misconstruction and be unbiased in ur presentation (shd not lead on as desired by u) esp so if you had been a research which is the rule of the thumb for any research.
I do understand that you only wanted to share the findings as an individual and not as a researcher; but this as a blessing has got you started to present more valuable insights for all your readers.
