Ngl, but Helix is way too massively overpriced, a twin for the same quality of helix can go for 300-400ish dollars, no matteress should ever be 1500 dollars. That is massively overpriced, especially for a twin size mattress. Do not go with helix if you want actually sane and good pricing options for a mattress.
My guess on the English sign is that there were archeologist students from some university, and although the instructors spoke English, it was not their first language, so their spelling was not really perfect. They had taken over the chapel and used it for their "workspace" probably because that was the only roof that didn't leak. So they reestablished the power supply and put heavy padlocks on the doors (or screwed the doors shut) to make sure their valuable research equipment didn't get stolen.
I was actually talking to a camera store employee about how you guys are my main inspiration for getting into urbex/film earlier today. I have been blessed by this video
Very cool to hear that this property will be repurposed. I hope they are able to retain as much of the historic charm of these buildings as possible. They are beautiful.
I haven’t seen this channel in nearly 4 years. Only recently started randomly seeing instagram reels of abandoned places and reminded me of this channel again. Came back today and was pleasantly surprised that they haven’t changed much in that 4 years. Was also heartwarming to see that they kept their awesome intro song. ❤
Looked like a gorgeous view over the water. As a prisoner there I guess you'd never see much of that though! Many thanks to the Proper People for sharing, as always :)
That “archeological site” you guys saw in the beginning wasn’t that nor a grave, it was a utilities cavern for electrical, water, or sewage or a combination for the new building that is renovated on the same grounds.
Always good to see another Proper People video on my feed. Been watching your content for years, and I hope you never change through it all. Keep on making me jealous with these beautiful places you come across.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, stained glass windows were very common not only in churches. Where I live, there is a mansion, built in the early 19th century, with a huge stained glass window and chrome bathroom furniture, things that at the time, only very high class families could have. It is a shame, after the owners passed away, the heirs left it abandoned for many decades.
That alcoohol mistake is actually really funny because alcohol in Portuguese is álcool, so yeah who wrote it just combined the English with the Portuguese. 😂 So cool you came to my country! Love your videos! :)
I like waiting for a few uploads so I can watch The Proper People continuously. They're the best urban explorers, in my opinion. You don't get click bait or boasted conversation on how interesting it is. The content itself does it alone
New Jerusalem is looking fine! BTW that's apparently part of a college being built on the old fort site. They started setting it up in 2020 and will be renovating the whole place.
Great coverage on this prison. Your background info on places you explore is excellent plus your videography is the best in urbex. So informative and interesting. Great work guys!
You guys have been an inspiration for me to get back into photography. Just got a new computer, camera body is next. Thanks guys. Your videos & editing are amazing.
Looks like a nice place to stay in its prime. Except for the 'prison' part. 😅 Loving how the ambient sounds go so well with the vibe of the architecture - such nice mediterranean flair.
13:30 Not too sure I would be keen on taking the stairwell that has the "Danger!" sign painted there and the big pile of rust flakes under the first landing...
At the 15:15 mark you hear "The floors up here don't feel the sturdiest." on that 2nd tier of the cathedral cell block. Meanwhile, at the 13:33 mark one says "I'm gonna head upstairs" and as he does, there is a black triangle with an exclamation mark in the center of it with the word "Perigo" sprayed underneath. Perigo is 'Danger' in Portuguese and that is probably exactly why it was spray painted at the bottom of the stairs. Warning people that the 2nd tier catwalk is rotted and unstable. No mention of that sign in the video as they passed it. Might want to pay attention to those types of warnings in the future. Entertaining video as always guys! You two are awesome bringing us these videos. Love your content! Be safe!
Yes its always a tough decision for us to decide whether to include it or not. I think it's an important part of the story of what we do but we also don't want to heavily publicize a playbook of how to get in, so that's why you won't see it in all our videos.
For what I could read, they rehabilitated the old buildings for re-use in several services, startup companies, cultural or creative industries and local associations. The english sign with some understandable misspelling since "álcool" is the portuguese spelling of the word "alcohol" and "propper" is also very frequent mannerism (old habits) as in portuguese before the "new language deal" we used to emphasize some words with muted letters in the middle of the words. The sign (probably to warn eventual foreign students, teachers and/or researchers from the human and social sciences faculty of the University), along with the samples, are from archeological studies to learn the patrimonial impact of the rehabilitation process. That is also to house the future Arts and Technology Institute of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. As you well said at the end, it was announced a plan to rehabilitate those cell spaces you've walked on to use them as college student dormitories for said university (in a country where finding a ROOM - not an apartment - to rent in Lisbon has an asking price of probaby a minimum wage or higher - speculation, airbnb, illegal rentings with no regulation or accountability, really became a huge housing problem for the average person trying to make a living or even study in our country! Many students find themselves not going to study at the college they've been accepted in solely because their parents can't afford a room's rent! This happens mainly in Lisbon, but it's spreading faster and faster to other cities. Entire families live in rented basements and car garages converted illegally to makeshift dormitories! Low wages, inflation and house prices are the biggest problems here.
It's such a shame that someone with some forethought didn't turn these beautiful gems of history you explore into tourist destinations. Not a fan of "tourist attractions" but anything to preserve art, history and architecture. Good to hear that there may be a future for this place...other than prime waterfront condos.
I think it's just Portugal, it's not a very rich country, Spain usually preserves its forts a little better although in the smaller towns they've still got plenty of abandoned stuff like this.
Hi Bryan & Michael, I wouldn't swap my Rem-Fit mattress for any other mattress but the Helix seems nice too. Such a beautiful set of buildings, the ceilings looked very ornate as did some of the stairwells. Although it was a prison at one point in time, it must have been nice falling asleep listening to the waves and seagulls. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💜
If you think I'm buying the fact you climbed down that bit with the box and makeshift ladder like something out of Uncharted, think again!! - You can't kid a kidder!!!
At 21:23 those are known as boring samples. Probably commissioned by the university to see what type of rock is around the existing structures. Useful information to determine load capacities for future construction, as well as determining how much excavation needs to take place to get to suitable bearing soils.
Grandiosa exploración, interesante el edificio, enigmático, misterioso. Gracias estaba esperando un nuevo vídeo de ustedes ,saludos a ti Michael y Bryan que estén muy bien.
@10:24 that seriously shocked and terrified me!!! ,…”Here we have Jesus ,….and here we have that ! ,…I seriously blew my Dentures out!! That’s just tooo frackin phunny!! OMG ! Thanks ,..I needed that!!
Need to explore the island that is abandoned. See some other people went to go see it. That still has power going to it. A person named Josh did explore there.
I was just thinking yesterday how I hadn't seen a Proper People video in my feed in awhile and here you are 😄 Edit: well, I guess UA-cam just hasn't been showing me your uploads because I've apparently missed the last 4 videos 🙃
I was wondering how you guys do the camera. Who was filming while both of you were trying to get in? I'm really fascinated by your documentation of these places.
These buildings are beautiful. Traditional, pre-World War II architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship are my favorite. I would love for more buildings today to be built using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship instead of conforming to the often ugly architecture, lackluster building materials, and mediocre craftsmanship that are prevalent today. If you are in a position to design or build a building, consider using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship if at all possible as they are more beautiful, higher quality, and more durable than their modern counterparts.
I have a good place you guys can explore, it is an Abandoned dam, it’s over 100 years old and has some other abandoned building around it, here is the location, Lower Girard Lake, Girard, OH, USA
Im so tired of these people who just come to places to spray paint on them. Like... its almost never a piece of art, its a big wang, or some crudely, quickly drawn thing, like they were in a rush to get out.

Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
But we're too busy -singing- exploring
To put anybody down
Dose anyone wana get out of bed in the morning? Lol

as an archaeologist, was thinking this as well.

It's always a bummer when places are empty but it's always nice to see them with little to no graffiti. The detail everywhere is beautiful.
Natural decay/abandonment always looks better than street graffiti bastardizing historical architecture
Agreed. That place would be long destroyed by vandals where I live.
No matter how many times I watch, the Intro music still hits so hard.
Once again we see our guys breaking INTO a prison!
People try to break out of prison, not into prison, I left a similar comment on one of their vids a while back.
ninja your way out of prison yet nearly fumble your way in, no?
Very cool to hear that this property will be repurposed. I hope they are able to retain as much of the historic charm of these buildings as possible. They are beautiful.
11:47. The brackets that are holding up that walkway are incredible! Probably the best built in the entire place, and really ornate!

The banter and critiquing between Michael and Brian is to urban exploring what Siskel and Ebert were to movies... greetings from Canada 🤘🇨🇦🤘
Everytime you upload, it makes me want to go explore these places for myself!

The way you guys climbed down from the wall must’ve been the way someone climbed out after realizing they had no other way out.

What an awesome compound!!
ill admit, the theater one with them having to run extension cords and have generators on the roof was pretty cool
Another fun adventure, thanks for all you do!
The "rock samples" at about 12:22 look like drill cores. Maybe taken out of the walls for some reason?
13:30 Not too sure I would be keen on taking the stairwell that has the "Danger!" sign painted there and the big pile of rust flakes under the first landing...

I like the more recent trend of showing infil/exfil, it's not always easy or graceful. Nice upload bros, pretty unique spot

So happy to see the growth of your channel! 🙌🏼

Why didn't you guys visit either of the lookouts? Now I'm just left desperately wanting to go there. Rest of the video is fantastic.
The walkways to get to them were collapsed

What a BEAUTIFUL place! Wow! Love it! Thanks for this one guys!!
I love your explore show it’s great thanks for doing more
19:20 Chill chair--long time, no see. 😄😄
Cool place, I was getting a strong Shalebridge cradle vibe with all these cells and decorations. Thank you, guys.
Yay! Great way to start a weekend! 🌸✌️💜
Really enjoyed your video! Beautiful old buildings! Love the stained glass windows!
9:40 beautiful arch in the wall. maybe a previous doorway?

Interesting building, very well designed and the decaying looks great.
Thanks boys, you made Friday the 13th a whole lot better lol
Awesome! Thank y'all! I like these.

Probably a very nice chapel. Portugal is a very Catholic country.
Excellent video, guys! Thanks!
Almost skipped this video because I can't stand abandoned prisons with clear glass windows, but luckily they're stained

The cell area looks like that of the cells in Resident Evil Revelations 2
Maybe those apartments were newer barracks that were built then later turned into apartments?
