100% agree. If they'd simply remade X-Wing and Tie Fighter or even Alliance in Unreal 5 we'd all have drunk it up. They could do an original campaign too, and we'd just as quickly dive in. How on earth can they not understand this to be what we want?
Because *we* are the minority. Must "Fans" have been buying into Failonis shit, because they eat everything and think it's good. They want arcade Space games, with special abilities and loadouts and other such shite. While we just want a Space game with a Ship, it's Equipment and our skill.
X-Wing vs TIE was the game that made me get a gaming PC. I loved that game but HATED the dial up lag. I think it was on my old Pentium 133 cpu and Voodoo gfx card lol. A remake of that would be awesome. But back to Survivor… I’m lucky in that it’s been pretty playable for most of the time. I’ve only had a single crash too. This is on Series X.
The TIE Interceptor missions in this game were extremely challenging from what I remember. There was very few of them, but, they either pitted you against the Assault Shuttles, which ripped through you like paper, or they had you go against TIE Advanced, which outmaneuvered you, then ripped through you like paper. I really loved this game. Great series!!!
the running fan theory why the Starwing/Assault Gunboat is such a radical break from standard imperial fighter doctrine and veers so much closer to rebel fighter doctrine is that *Thrawn* was the one who put the project into motion when he got the power and resources of an Admiral, essentially, "requisitioning" a single Cygnus Spaceworks starfighter factory to have a prototype multirole craft prototyped. Because Thrawn had both Vader and Palpatine's approval, Tarken couldn't shut the project down while he was alive and the ship was put into a series of limited production runs to test it's viability. and, you saw just how poorly they were deployed by imperial officers early in there life after the battle of yavin and the lead up to the battle of hoth and the post battle of hoth. (coughs in 35/36 casualties in one sortie) because the ships didn't have the proper interceptor support for dealing with high speed dogfight engagement's gunboats like them are just not designed to do. acting as a missile/torpedo/rocket platform armed with ion cannons to disable and kill big targets at standoff range? great! Dogfighting x and a-wings at knife fight ranges? ... not so great. but to be fair. being a imperial pilot assigned to fly a shielded starfighter at all was the first sign your commanding officers thought of you as more then just an expendable asset...
Listen... You guys are way to focues on the damn shields. They are not an unbreakable protective barrier. Watxh the darn Movies again. The X-Wing shields can at best, only weaken incoming fire of the same size/caliber, are impervious to Handgun fire, and nothing when hit by a Capital Ship Cannon. The TIE don't need shields. And the believe that TIEs are useless was created by people that have not the slightest clue how Star Wars works at all.
"Dogfighting x and a-wings at knife fight ranges?" Later versions added a tractor beam which corrected the problem. Tractor an A-wing so it can't maneuver, then zap it with dual advanced concussion missiles. The TIE Advanced and the TIE Defender are worthy of fear in a gunboat. X-wings and Y-wings not so much.
I appreciate the heck out of these videos! I've been having a rough couple of days and have kept them on in the background. Thank you for making these!
With the Gunboat and the Defender, you can link up your Ion Cannons and Lasers to fire together, which adds even more fun. Really enjoying this series so far!
15:25 -- RE: The Assault Gunboats; I have a particular fondness for the Gunboat which came downstream of Tie Fighter, where it showed up first as something a player could fly, and it was a good thing to have at least one type of ship in the early game which had a hyperdrive (jumping between systems is common), ion cannons, and shielding. The Gunboat really came into its own though in the follow-up title in the series, Xwing v. Tie Fighter. Gunboat multiplayer match duels (1v1 - 4v4) were a regular thing for clans and the competitive types.
22:11 Pump your gun energy into shields, then reduce it to zero. Makes you faster and thus more difficult to hit, while strengthening the shields with the transferred energy. If you need full lasers quickly, you can still sacrifice some shield energy and transfer it back again...

@@ange1uk Oh, excellent. I'll send you a link when we publish it. It'll be next Monday more than likely. I just want to say to you sir, WELL DONE!!! I am so curious about the history of this project. It might make a good interview. Please let the whole team know how appreciative I am and I am sure many other older gamers as well. lol Speak to you soon. Cheers!!
I do like the Gunboat, the trick is to keep the lasers at full charge, and the shields at zero while shunting energy to the shields periodically. Ideally you want to rely on speed over shields, luckily these shields and hull are the tankiest, so it's fairly easy to use this tactic. Once beam weapons were added to the Empires arsenal, these craft could down right outrun the Average A-Wing pilot, the SG1's maneuverability being the sole remaining disadvantage. It is the by far the hardest ship to really master, but it can be as lethal as any craft in the hands of an ace.
Lord I remeber the thing that filled me with dread piloting the tie interceptor, Y-wings, not because they were hard to kill but becuase they would break check you so hard and on my old setup changing the throtte wasn't as easie as moving a controller had to go through the keys
I saw a Mouse Droids in the Hanger alongside the Gunship 👀 Imagine being those Rebel Crew getting disabled and just chilling as a single gunship just floats around you. Then finally you see the Commander's Shuttle get boarded and then the Gunship just turns and blasts you 😂
A, I love the imperial Gunboats. Flying these gave me the feeling I was allowed into a rare "elite" class of imperials ships. Like as if a competitor to the everpresent TIE-Class had tried to fill the navys sudden need for a "single seat hyperspace capable fighter-bomber with shields and ion-armament".
Whats up with the stuttering, a few seconds after this time stamp 10:11 youll see what I mean as you pitch up. I tried installing the mod on my own rig and noticed the same thing, it was really off putting. It's almost like its dropping frames.
I always wished they would have just used the Skipray Blasboat for these missions. It existed, and was known to be used for these purposes and had a reputation as useful but to rebelly. Finally it's layout has the pilot upfront alone, and then three other crew behind them so you wouldn't notice it wasn't a starfighter half the time.

because that's what I have the guns set to, You can change the settings so they all fire together if you wish. As for why, a laser fires then has a cool down time before it can fire again. If you fire each cannon in a sequence one at a time you can maintain a constant stream of fire on the target. If you set the lasers to all fire together (as above you can if you wish) you get one massive shot from all guns then about a second gap before you can fire again, which one you use comes down to personal preference.
I have played most games ever since mid 90's that is Star Wars oriented. Tie Fighter, is by far, one of the coolest of them all in my eyes. X-Wing, X vs T, X-wing Alliance, they are the games that makes you actually feel you are part of the galactic war for dominance. It's a shame you're not part of the squadron attacking the hyperdrives. That'd be more fun I think; flying and avoiding cruiser gun batteries and needing to hold off the enemy fighters until the other two squadrons show up to assist.
