  • Solo Motorcycle Camping in BEAR territory! Episode 04 Teton National Park After realizing I was unable to find suitable housing for the night in the Grand Teton National Park I had no choice but to do the thing I swore I would NEVER do... Camp in BEAR COUNTRY! Lol in all seriousness I was perfectly fine camping off the bike for a night, but the fact that I have never camped in bear country before had me incredibly alert. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always had nightmares about being mauled by a bear... I live in OHIO.... I have no idea why it has always been such a fear of mine. Alas, I survived the night with little sleep. But you know what, riding my motorcycle through the Teton National Park not once but twice made everything worth it. #camping #motorcyclecamping Similar coffee to this video: amzn.to/3dtQFjR

I’m embarrassed to admit just HOW uneasy this Ohio girl was all night! 😅 have you camped in bear country?

    • @lonewolvesonwheels
      @lonewolvesonwheels Рік тому +1

Yes and I was a nervous wreck until I finally passed out.
Part of my fear was my dingdong husband spilt fish oil next to our tent the first night out 😳
No grizzlies there but we camped on Yellowstone River in Montana and that night I was pretty paranoid of being eaten alive but still slept good once out (Fireball helps).

Having grown up in Missoula MT and camped in Glacier and Yellow Stone as well as Jasper Park in Canada I do understand your feeling scared. I don't get to excited about bears as those who have not been around them. MY wife and I on our honey moon in Jasper had a black bear walk right nest to our tent and stand up and put his front paws on the hood of my VW Bug where I stored all of our food. we stayed in the tent a couple hours to make sure the bear was gone before we got out. Then we promptly got in our canoe and paddled out into the lake for a while longer and then came back and made breakfast. I could tell you a few more bear stories but this would be way to long. My experience is if you follow the rules you will come out ok.

Growing up in bear country we learned an old Indian trick to warn you when a bear comes into camp at night. You take and open a jar of peanut butter and slip it under the edge of a neighboring campers tent. If you here screaming in the middle of the night you can relax knowing the bear will be occupied for a while.

Another old joke about bears is. How do you know the difference between Black Bear scat and Grizzly Bear scat? Black Bear Scat has lots of barriers in it and small animal bones. Grizzly Bear scat has Bear bells and smells' like pepper spray. LOL

My wife and I did the same trip years ago.
    Sturgis to Yellowstone, Tetons .
Stopped over for the night in Jackson hole. Rooms were affordable back then.
But we got up in the morning it was 36 degrees 🥶.
We had no warm gear at the time.
I instantly became a gear geek when we got home and got heated gear and modular helmets .
To this day I keep the heated gear with me wherever I go. 😁

As a biker from 1972 to c.2016, I concur: Yellowstone is not for tent camping or riding around something you can't survive a run-in with a buffalo (bison to you pedants). Cars survive buffaloes. Motorcyclists are somewhat less sure to come out on top. Cars and motorcycles are motels are infinitely more suited to hanging out with wildlife than are bikes and tents. Go back in a car and you'll be more patient with buffalo traffic jams. At the age of 17 I walked up to a buffalo that stood closet to seven feet tall at the hump and petted him through a barbed wire fence. He was behind a barbed wire fence outside the Denver zoo near where we parked to check out the zoo denizens. That animal was at lest partially habituated and seemingly happy to be petted by a curious human. Had I tried that with a wild Yellowstone buffalo (they will gore you quite readily) I'd probably have become a statistic myself. I live in a place where hunting anything has been strongly criticized for more than 100 years and wildlife runs free. Coyotes, wildcats, deer and bears wander around at night. I would not leave my sticks and bricks for tent here. No way! Nor do I worry too much about locking up at night. Nobody in his right mind would scope out my place to come break in after dark. Too afraid of being eaten by some animal who sees a person on foot as potential food!

Jess!! All the time I have followed you, and the many times alone in a tent you camped by a river I also admired your courage! First thing I thought of was bears but you even cooked sausage on an open fire alone and ate at dusk!

Looks like a great trip! Though, I'm not surprised you found bad Mexican food that far north of the Texas border lol. Then again, I may be biased :)

You should have tried the nachos at Signal Mountain Lodge. They are huge and so tasty.
