Thank you for using the 3 cup Chemex. That is the one I purchased and I really like it but felt like maybe I should have bought the 6 cup. It is nice to see someone else making instructions for the 3 cupper. 😊
Great video. I myself tend to over think and analyze things quite a bit so its great to see people getting good results with a more day-to-day friendly approach.
Glad you liked it! That was my hope with the video, to be a bit more available for the normal folks out there. I’m actually working on another recipe at the moment with a new video within the next couple weeks, so feel free to check back if you’d like!
But I came here to learn how to fold my filter 😭😭😭 Edit ** I’m sorry for being so rude - I came back after I learned how to fold my filter to say thank you!! Thank you! ♥️
Thanks I’m going to collect from Black Rifle Coffee Company a 3 cup chemex can’t wait ... I gave up drinking alcohol a while back and found a passion for coffee. Good tutorial thanks man !! 👌🏻
Dude BRC is trash, they are swindlers, liberals pretending to be conservative. They betrayed thier entire customer base several times over the last year. Worth looking into if you dont believe me.
So much better tasting coffee than what I had been producing. I just got this Chemex and it’s been my first time using a pour over and it’s been some trial and error. Wonderful video. Thank you!
Great tips. Thanks for the video. Any tips on making the coffee hotter?? I find by the time all the pours are complete and it’s time to drink, that it’s lukewarm! Do you pre-heat your chemex with hot water ever? Cheers
Usually the rinse pour does a great job of warming the Chemex itself, maybe try adding more of the hot water when you’re doing that step and it could help. Thanks!
Thanks for this, super helpful. What I find weird is how far the filter goes down into the chemex. I am unable to get past the nipple to make a full 3 cups because the filter goes down too low. Any tips? Am I folding wrong?
What’s is your thoughts on the three cup Chemex vs the next size up? I only make one cup at a time, but hey, you never know if you have a friend or family member want a cup of coffee.
Nice guide. I would add a step to gently break up clumps of dry coffee with chopstick or spoon handle during the bloom and let it all degas, so you dont get large bubbles during the next pour.
Yes, I do. Feel free to try a setting or two to either side, though. I noticed that after using that grinder for a while, the grind setting almost seemed a bit loose and will be slightly more coarse/fine depending on the direction I turned the bin.
I thought I was the only one taking crazy pills. This is our second grinder in three years because I experienced the same thing. It is the best grinder for the money, but I have noticed it does get a little loose overtime. It’s almost time to get another one. Thanks for the tips. I am working on them now.
I find myself leaning more towards the coarse end of “medium-coarse,” but what’s most important is getting a consistent grind. If you have a lot of fines mixed in with the grounds, it’ll really throw off the brew and mess with your extraction no matter what setting you use. Really, it’s about experimenting to find the best grind that works for your grinder. Hope that could help a bit!
How happy are you with the 3 cup Chemex? A lot people say the 6 cup produces better results, but I mostly just want 1-2 coffees in a row. Maybe you can help me with my decision. Thanks! Also your video was extremely helpful and straight to the point.
I really like the 3-cup. I have the 6-cup as well and it definitely is easier to get consistent results from it, but if you can get good at the 3-cup, it lets you not have to use so much coffee every time you want a cup.
It mainly depends on how much coffee you want (seems obvious, I know). The 3-cup is great for one person when you don’t want to end up wasting those expensive, locally roasted beans, but I know plenty of people that can go through a whole 6-cup by themselves! The 6-cup is also a bit more forgiving with ratios, so that may be a plus too, but I almost always go for the 3-cup.
You have a scale but don’t have a coffee to water ratio ummm that’s not good Btw my favorite ratio is 18:1 For each gram of coffee i use 18 grams of water Ex 300 grams of water over 18 gives 16.5 grams of coffee First pour is 50 grams of water The second and the third are 125 grams Enjoyyyyyyyyyyy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Highly recommend leaving your boiling water for around 10 mins before pouring, or adding 15% more cold if you're making it immediately. Using boiling water leads to a burnt taste, but cool the water a touch and you'll avoid it

Handy guide! I've never used a Chemex before and will try it out!
Best guide on this I've seen, thanks!
Glad it could help!
This video helped me so much with learning how to use my Chemex. Thank you William!
This’s still very helpful, thanks

@@williamrockett405 Will do!
I think it’s safe to say you can just pour the water
But I came here to learn how to fold my filter 😭😭😭

Me too. I still can’t figure it out. Lol

@SK No, they are anti 2nd ammendment
Black Rifle is anti 2nd ammendment
So never having used one, how do you fold the filter? Might have shown that in the video.
Thanks!

Very glad to hear it!
Totally left out how to fold the half moon filter in this tutorial. 🤷🏻♂️
But still glad I watched. Get my 3-cup tomorrow. 👍🏼
Yes and that’s why I came here - I’m used to the big guy so didn’t know how to fold this one!
great job man
thanks!, always the tutorial use the 8 or 6 cups
Love my Chemex! Haven't turned back since!
Dino Linsao Same here! Just can’t always be bothered to make the full 6-cup haha
Thanks, just ordered the 3 cup. I’ll try your method first!
Great! Hope it works out well for you!
Thanks for this, just what I was looking for.
Great guide, thanks so much! I just got one for Christmas and have been looking exactly this!
I’m glad it could help, hope you had a Merry Christmas!
+1 for the Hyrule cup!
Do you recommend the cloth filter? It comes in a two pack. Reviews on Amazon are great.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I'm going to try this method tomorrow morning. Cheers.
Let me know if it works out for you!

I thought you had to be a scientist to get a good cup from a Chemex. Good job making it seem more approachable.
I’m glad it came across that way!
Really helpful. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Nice video mate. Appreciate it
Glad I could help!
Have you actually done a taste test between just pouring water and pouring/bloom/ pouring just at 9mm from the edge? 😅
Sooo.. it's basically the same of the V60 method?

I have the same Burr Grinder. Do you use the setting you landed on in your video?
Yes, I do. Feel free to try a setting or two to either side, though. I noticed that after using that grinder for a while, the grind setting almost seemed a bit loose and will be slightly more coarse/fine depending on the direction I turned the bin.

lovely video, thanks so much :)
I need your mug!
It’s one of my favorites for sure!
Could you recommend a preferred coarseness type for the chemex 3-cup? I've heard 'medium-course' is right. Would you agree?
I find myself leaning more towards the coarse end of “medium-coarse,” but what’s most important is getting a consistent grind. Great vid but that mug looks damn awesome ❤️

do you discard the bloom and rinse water?
Only the rinse water. Any water you pour over the grounds should remain in what you drink.
Maybe a stupid question but how do you discard the rinse water? Great video though!
@@brianjbertschLeave the filter in the Chemex and simply pour the water out of the spout. Maybe swirl it a bit before pouring to warm up the Chemex.

Sir, u hv used 55grm coffee beans
Wat was ur brewing grm coffee
Kucherov??
Good video. You did skip the origami folding of the filter. But nice video anyway.
True, sorry about that! Thanks
Why did you stop reviewing
Welp. I think it’ll be too complicated for me. I’m not sure I’ll keep mine.
Not bad, not precise, but all those imprecisions may offset in a positive way, so worth trying.
You have a scale but don’t have a coffee to water ratio ummm that’s not good
Btw my favorite ratio is 18:1
For each gram of coffee i use 18 grams of water
Ex 300 grams of water over 18 gives 16.5 grams of coffee
First pour is 50 grams of water
The second and the third are 125 grams
Enjoyyyyyyyyyyy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful eyes!!

Almost turned the video off when you said you don’t weigh your coffee beans. I’m glad I didn’t because it’s a cool video
Well I’m glad you liked it!
There's a scale right there, just weight your coffee beans :)
Seriously? This is ridiculous
Care to elaborate sir? You seem passionate about your opinion.
Hi. What is the brew time after bloom or total brew? I assume less time for less coffee? Thanks.
