If you like stronger coffee, you should use fine grind, and even espresso grind... you should not wait to press, or hold for 1 minute, as that causes the acidic flavor to come out... just press slower... also I will point out that you filled the Aeropress upside down... this is based on my experience. Also get a metal mesh filter, so you get the oils from the coffee, and you will have an exceptional coffee...

That's the way to do it when you're making "full immersion" coffee (French Press style) as opposed to making espresso.

I own both, a Chemex and an Aeropress, and use both almost daily. I use my Chemex in the morning when I'm making two cups, and the Aeropress either at work or at home if I only want one cup. I tell everyone I can about both, hyping both up equally

I think there could be a round two, with a tweaked ratio for the chemex
For 8 oz, try approx 14 g grinds with approx 280 g water, same bloom time, use a goose neck to be able to pour just little bits and you won't get that watered down effect
Double for a bigger brew, but only if your cup can fit it

My issue with the Chemex is the glass. Not only is it more fragile, it's not insulated so it cools much more quickly. You'd have to make coffee one cup at a time and pour it straight into a cup to keep it hot. The Aeropress goes straight into your cup by design, which you can Insulate if you desire.

Aeropress didn't win statistically. Still can determine if it's not 50/50. So, with that few people tasting, you would need 10 tasters out of 12 to prefer Aeropress over Chemex to get a standard p < 0.05 level. Or, to put it a different way, if 5 folks preferred Chemex, then you would need 15 other folks to prefer Aeropress reach the p < 0.05 level (so that would be a total of 20 tasters). If there is a preference, it is probably small, and you would need to have a lot of tasters to find it. So, we didn't really learn anyway from this video....

Good point Mihir. I think alot of people are just used to your standard burnt dark roast pike place beans so when the chemex comes along and tastes nothing like it then they don't think it's 'proper' coffee. I can't wait to get my hands on a chemex......soon.

Wait a minute, no... Aeropress makes THE lowest acidity coffee when used properly with a paper filter. It’s what it is known for. So confused! I was thinking the same thing you said, but in exact reversal!! I hate Chemex coffee consistently. It makes even great beans taste like my mom’s oxidized old Folgers drip brew after two hours in the heated carafe. Intelligentsia light roast lover here, FTR.

I can't believe what you just did. Why did you compare a full brewed coffee from chemex to a DILUTED coffee from the aeropress, even though you could have done a full brew from the aeropress to have a fair comparison? When you dilute the coffee coming from the aeropress, the coffee becomes a lot sweeter and the difference between a full brew and semi brew diluted is amusing. That's just not fair

Fun video thanks, but no scientist would sign off on this test. a. Results were so close they are utterly inconclusive (aka meaningless) b. the test samples should be served in same colour cups at the same temperature. c. same test should be repeated x >= 3 d. the order in which the cups are offered should be alternated.

It's a nice way to start a day.
I roast my own beans in a popcorn popper the night before. That's the secret right there, beans as fresh as possible.
